Good Points: Lovely beach nearby...

Bad Points: Everything I have listed as 'bad'

General comments: Barcelo Las Margaritas Hotel

My boyfriend & I stayed here under half board (so breakfast & dinner were included but not lunch) for a week. It was a major emotional rollercoaster, of ups, downs and mediocrity I must admit.

The first day we arrived we threw our belongings down so as to explore, and placed a do not disturb sign on the door.

When we returned we found that one of the staff had helped themselves to 40euros (20 from each of our wallets) this was infuriating since even with travel insurance the hotel and the Thomas Cook reps were extremely unhelpful & unremorseful.

The rest of the review I will put in bullet points:

O The weather is great in March

O There are two outdoor pools

O There are plenty of sun loungers

O Reception staff are well mannered

O The decor of the hotel is lovely

..: The Bad :..


O There is little to do after 6:00pm as the pool is closed & the shows are not for everyone

O The catering staff are (for lack of a better word) annoying

O The rooms have no ceiling light so it can get very dim at night

O No English television apart from 2 news channels

O There is no security, so anyone can enter into the hotel (our money was stolen on the first day)

O No entertainment

O Uncomfortable beds

O Cockroaches in the rooms

O Toilet is smelly & seems unhygienic because of this

O The room is blandly decorated

O The room service is poor, as the service takes so long you might as well leave the room and fetch whatever it is yourself

O The staff do not really speak English, so asking for things is usually unsuccessful

O Everything is very expensive... ' 2 for a tiny bottle of coca-cola...

O The food is of very poor quality; warm (never hot) bland; and very repetitive

O The Bath/Shower was appalling; the tub had ground in dirt and the showerhead was coming off of the wall

O An iron we paid ' 22 for blew the fuse in the room, and we had to sit in darkness for 30minutes before a technician came to fix it. They didn ' t replace the iron or refund our money!

O The towels that were being replaced were dirty & old looking, also the bathroom facilities were the bare minimum.


In brief: I would NOT go here again, and if you want entertainment/clubs/fun - avoid this... definitely not worth the 4* rating.

Couldn't really fault any part of our stay at the hotel, had everything we wanted and never had to worry about getting a place by the pool as they have more than one, so plenty of room for everyone, lots of fun activities during the day if you like to do that, but there is no pressure to do anything but relax and enjoy yourself. We went all inclusive and it was worth every penny or euro!

I enjoyed my two week stay so much. I would love to go back again. The staff are great and I really loved the food. I would advise everyone to go to the Barcelo Las Margaritas Hotel.

We are going to the Margaritas in March and we shall expect the same friendly service from the staff the same good food in the restaurant and the same service from the whole staff.

We had a great time at the Las Margaritas there was something for everyone of all ages to do. Regular buses to the beach for free and a great night life only a short taxi ride away. The hotel itself was fantastic our rooms were great cleaned everyday and had everything we needed. Around the main pool has activities during the day to keep you entertained and in the evening they put on a show something different every night. Staff were fantastic. All in all a great place for a family holiday.....

We have been going to Barcelo Las Margaritas Hotel for the last two years, and would have gone twice in the first year if we could have got booked in. Have had friends that have also been and recommend it highly for families. Highly recommend the apartments (self catering) as can take a walk and within 15 minutes pretty much find anything food wise that you would desire (Hard Rock, Chinese, Italian, Thai, you name it!) As for the comments about the area, dont know why as not rough nor rowdy. May ...

As a gay couple we found this hotel extremely nice. There were lots of families, but they seemed to be in the main hotel. The apartments are quieter, and there was more of an older crowd - 23+.

There was a shuttle bus from Barcelo Las Margaritas Hotel in PLaya Del Ingles to the beach, which was every half hour or so.

We are definitely going again!

We had a wonderful holiday at the Barcelo Las Margaritas Hotel in Gran Canaria. We found the hotel suited all of our needs. The rooms were very clean and staff were lovely. The food was very nice, and we upgraded to all inclusive, which I would recommend. The kids could have ice-cream for every meal of the day!

The beach is not local, but we knew that before booking. It was not a problem for us as the pools were lovely.

I booked directly with the Barcelo Las Margaritas hotel in Playa Del Ingles, at a great rate, and booked a transfer with resorthoppa.com. This is the best way to travel, as it was very quick and reasonably priced for one person. The hotel staff were sometimes lacking enthusiasm for their jobs, but luckily I didn't need to trouble them too often. The room was on the 6th floor with a seaview, but on the main road it is not a very pretty view, but you are in PDI!

All round the Barcelo Las Margaritas hotel was good, but the area has a lot to be desired unless you know where you have already booked for , not good in front of young children, definitely dont fly with Thomsons.

This was my first vacation in Las Margaritas. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel has 2 swimming pools and a nice garden. Every night there was enough entertainment. The lunch and dinner buffets where very extended. There is enough choice for everyone.

The room was always clean and we got clean towels every day. Every day and evening there was entertainment for the kids, so they kept busy every day. (We don't have children)

All in all, I had a wonderful time at Barcelo. The room we were in had air-conditioning and there was enough space for 2 persons. We had a nice view from our balcony and the rooms and towels were cleaned every day. The food was good. There was a lot you could choose from. The entertainment was also nice and you could see they work hard on it. The staff was kind and helpful. It made us sad that we had to leave so soon

Barcelo Las Margaritas Hotel:
The rooms have plenty wardrobe space, we travel with our daughter and even with a third bed there is plenty room. The maids change your towels daily. The reception staff are very welcoming and helpful. We have been visiting this hotel for 5 years and recommend it to anybody without any qualms. We also travel there independantly and the hotel collect you from the airport free of charge, you just have to tell them your flight no. and arrival time and a taxi is waiti ...

Many of the lower floor rooms in the Barcelo Las Margaritas Hotel (up to 4th floor)are shrouded by trees which cover the balcony. No pool views are possible. No privacy on the balcony as dividing walls are only 18" wide. Very much over rated hotel
