Good Points: Level of "kit", huge boot, decent family car

Bad Points: The most unreliable car I have ever owned. Servicing costs are higher than my friends Porsche 911 (!!!) and spares are over-priced. All whole list of known faults is common knowledge

General comments: If you're tempted by low second hand prices - beware, Saab 9-5 are low for a reason! My example of an Aero is a money-pit. In 35k miles it has needed replacement rear shocks, cat, DI (ignition) pack, computer display, turbo, gearbox rebuild x2, throttle body....the list goes on. Enthusiasts will tell you that they're not all like this but all you have to do is surf the web to see that they are fraught with common problems including all of the previously mentioned plus things like the oil pickup getting "sludged-up" and starving the engine of oil. Don't listen to the brand loyal enthusiasts who will tell you how reliable these cars are...they are not....just talk to anyone in the trade and they will wince if you tell them you own a 95.

If you're a company car driver they're worth the risk .......as a private owner avoid at all costs

In driving terms there is simply too much power for the crude chassis althought they are good motorway cars.

This is my first and last SAAB.

This Saab 9-5 Aero version is a power monster. The first two days I got it, I nearly hit the car in front a few times as I stepped on the acceleration pad too hard. I was driving a Nissan Cefiro 2.0 before. Besides the power, the car actually is very economical on fuel. I believe this is due to the very low RPM (about 2800 to 3300rpm) when my car is cruising at 140km/h on highway, the trip computer shows the fuel co ...

The Saab 9-5 Saloon 2.3T is a cheap family car which is quick and safe to drive according to ENCAP.
Pretty good build quality with the SE version being quite luxury.
Nice to own something a little different instead of the usual BMW's and such like.
Would of been better if it was rear wheel drive.
Dont worry about high mileage this car loves it but dont forget the service's.
On the whole a very good car which has a bit of go in it with out the sting from the insurance companies. ...
