My Guardian 04390 genset is almost three years and the steal base is rusting out at the corners and the enclosure has rusted at the louvers and the top cover. Although I have had no other problems I would not recommend this unit. Generac Power Systems has not been at all helpful regarding the rusting away. (read more)

Generac stood behind their product after the motor developed a craving appetite for oil 22 months into the warranty period by replacing the motor. Now less than a year later and only after 27 hours of operation the motor has failed once again. The real question here will be if they step up to the plate and replace the motor once again? All generator units that Guardian ship come with a 1/2 a quart low on oil.
So far I haven't had a lick of trouble.
The most it ran during a power failure was 8 hours, but has run for hours on different power failures. So glad I bought one. I installed the electric myself because the unit had to be placed 80 feet from the electric panel. The unit comes shipped for NG 13KW, but they will ship you the upgrade kit to 15 KW for LP for FREE.
Best investment for my house that I spent!

We have had our Guardian 15000 Watt Emergency Automatic Home Standby Generator for almost a year. The over speed light came (is) on. Have tried, with the help of Home Depot where we bought the unit, to get service on it. It is still under warranty. It has been over three weeks now and no response from Generac. We rue the day we bought this expensive machine, and now cannot use it. I would advise any buyer to beware, and recommend taking your business elsewhere. (read more)

What I found out is, Home Depot nor Generac service these Generators. Seek a company that does their warranty work. I have a maintenance plan with one.

Thanks Deerhunter. We did know that. Problem was installer who did warranty work refused to come out and check it. He is contracted with Home Depot/Generac to do this work. Neither could reason with him. Kept getting promises from HD/Generac to get someone else. I finally went to Generac on west coast, got a good guy there, he contacted a dealer here, dealer contacted a company here he knew of and low and behold within 5 days had a fella here. These folks DO know this product I must say! Don't know why this company is/was not on Generac's list. Sure would have saved some time. But so far so good.

That's great. HD here where I'm at in PA don't service them or have a subcontractor, I had to locate one myself. I don't know if you read my review but I put an hour/techometer meter in mine. So when the unit is running you can see the RPM's to make sure it's running at the speed it's suppose to and when it's not running it'll tell you how many total hours it has run for your maintenance schedule. Sign up on a maintenance plan with the new guy if ya can. My company let me pay in payments. Good luck with the unit. I wouldn't have another house without one.

Hi Deerhunter: Have a question for you. Your last post said you installed a meter. We'd like to do this too. Can you suggest where we might find this meter? And can a handy-man husband install it himself? Thanks much for all your help!

I got mine at a local lawn mower shop but you can find them on the internet. They are so easy to install. You can use the velcro that comes with it to mount the meter and then off of it is two wires, one to be put under a screw for the ground it's black and one wire which is red wraps around the spark plug wire with 4 turns. That's it. it's that easy. I think it was 40 or 45 dollars for it. When my generator starts for it's weekly start up I go out there and make sure it's running at the speed it's suppose to be at then when it shuts down it'll tell you the total time it has run which is good because at 50 hours the valves has to be adjusted per Generac. Really, it's that easy to install.

& then what? How did it quit? Was it under water? Being more specific would be a service to others & greatly enhance the quality of your review, not to mention its veracity. Thanks!
