Great functionality, easy to use, nice sound quality. After 5 years the OLED screen is on the way out and it switches itself on randomly during the night. I asked about repair and they said they couldn't and offered me and offensive 20-30% off another really expensive and unreliable radio. I spent £100 in good faith and bought an additional speaker for another £30. Very upset, will actively avoid anything Pure, wish I'd never recommended to anyone - I have a number of friends who have... (read more)

Dire. Has only lasted a couple of years then the software crashed. Very poor value for money; it cost over a £100. We also bought a Pure CD radio for the kichen, it has a ribbon style aerial. Reception is very variable. It also cost £100. No more Pure in this household: the brand is now toxic in my opinion . (read more)

The aerial doesn't stay up. the display has gone dark. The volume control doesn't work. This radio is ideal if you never use it. If, however, you have the temerity to switch it on and listen to it then it will start to break up immediately. DAB stole a march in the DAB world by producing expensive products early on. Never buy one because it will give you endless frustration and regrets that you wasted your money. Funnily enough the advanced digital optical output is still working and I have... (read more)

I received the Pure Tempus 1 radio as a gift about 5 years ago and was really pleased with the sound and look of it and the ease of use. However the screen has now frozen on the blue back light with no stations showing, no sound and nothing works when any of the buttons are pressed. This is so disappointing as I would have thought that something this expensive would work for years and years - not just five! I won't be buying another one as this is the second pure radio I've had problems with... (read more)

I suspect as with many people, when making a purchase, I generally make my decision based on price, maybe vendor's/seller's reputation & good Vs bad reviews etc. So if the bad reviews seem like just a few isolated cases or just a few unlucky people, I usually take a punt & go ahead with the purchase. A big mistake in this case. What I would urge people to do, before purchasing a Pure DAB radio, is to really read all the forums regarding the problems & also to pay particular attention to... 3 years old kept 'getting time' upgraded firmware (but only worked with XP PROFESSIONAL ON AN INTEL MOTHERBOARD all other OS and MOBO's failed also seemed to need usb 1.1 not usb 2.0) prob solved..........eventually . 5 years old screen lights up but no characters that's it. Power supply is putting out 18V not the 14.4 it says it should...maybe this has failed and fried it . Looks like I have a beech paperweight. Features were fine and sound was good however both these features are no... (read more)

Upgrade treat for me - I found it a bit complicated to set up but I'm not technical. The last thing I expected was for it to expire after 4-5 years. Meanwhile I'm back to listening to my old clock radio purchased for about £10 from Argos over 17 years ago. Progress!!!!? (read more)

LCD so dim it can't be read so although the set still works it's about as much use as chocolate teapot!! Pure do not supply spares and won't consider repairing - so they say chuck it and buy another one from them - haha!! So if you are thinking of buying a Pure product bear this in mind. It's a shame 'cos the set is good otherwise. (read more)

Great radio. Ruined by shocking reliability. 2.5 years old and it's bricked. Time to throw a 200 pound radio in the canal. That can't be right can it?
Pure Support were responsive and sympathetic but at the end of the day - I still have to buy a new radio.
Will it be a Pure-3... I doubt it. Take a search online, I am not alone. Buy this radio only if you feel lucky. Pity, because in all other respects it is great.

It's interesting that all the positive reviews are from people who have only recently bought this Pure Tempus-1 digital radio. We have had this radio for almost 5 years but it has just suddenly stopped working - only a blue light display comes on. I phoned the 'Pure' Customer Service line and was offered a raplacement for £60. All very disappointing and this was originally a replacement 'upgrade' for not one but two 'Evoke' radios which broke down one after the other within warranty.... (read more)

I have exactly the same problem that many others seem to have. About 50% of the time, when I turn the radio on, it has lost all of its stations and presets. When this happens, and it happens a lot, I have to sit through a 2 minute auto tuning process before then having to manually tune in to the chanel I want. I don't even bother storing presets anymore because they will be gone the next day. Very poor. (read more)

I've had the Tempus 1XT for justover 2 years and there now appears to be several issues with it, which makes it less than useless. It retunes itself, fails to come on at the set alarm time, loses all the radio settings. Very disappointing for a £100.00 radio. Problem is that I also have a Pure Move, which has also failed, but luckely under warranty. I therefore strongly question the build quality from this brand. They've offered me a £60.00 replacement for the Tempus. I told them it would be... (read more)

A fine radio hampered by shocking reliability. I have had two in the space of around 4 months and both went wrong with the same problem, it totally packed and didn't do anything. I found this unacceptable as my mother had one simalar to mine(a pure) that did the same after just over a year. If yours works though it a brilliant radio due to it's fabulous display, excellent sound and good materials used to make the exterior. However due to appaling reliability i could not reccomend one. I now... (read more)

I bought a Tempus three years ago and it has now stopped working, just a blue screen. I guess it will be out of warranty, but is a radio that cost so much really 'fit for purpose', especially as it has only been used for about six months of its life? Didn't old transistor radios go on for decades! Very disappointing (read more)

I bought my Pure Digital Tempus-1 radio in October 2004 and until about 10 days ago it worked perfectly. It is now not working at all. When I switch the radio on at the mains the display lights up but there is no information showing and none of the buttons work, including the standby button so it has to be switched off by the mains. I have emailed PURE telling them that I am aware the radio isn't under warranty any longer but for a radio of this calibre and price it shouldn't just stop... (read more)

I think the Pure Digital Tempus-1 is a great radio but the reliability is poor. I've had it three years and it's started to forget its tunings i.e. the present stations disappear when the set is switched off. Good points are sound quality and its appearance. Also the LCD display has stopped working. Autotune button is too close to the standby button. I'm really disappointed in the PURE brand. I thought I was buying something really excellent - even Which? said so. I won't be buying... (read more)

I have had two PURE radios now, the last one stopped working for no reason after 18 monts within warranty period , however the customer service at pure was so poor i gave up trying to get it repaired and went out and bought a Logik from currys at half the price with a useful mp3 player and the option of listening to FM if wanted. Whats more the sound is just as good as pure, I just hope it is more reliable. I for one will never waste my money on anymore expensive PURE products. (read more)

First DAB radio. I wanted a radio with alarm. Although not cheap itoozes quality in its sound and construction. Clear sound and locks onto signals perfectly. Snooze Handle a charm! Just stroke it to give the time at night or delay alarm.. Only point would be that clock display is either on or off.. would be nice to have it low lit when in 'off' mode at night.. but minor niggle. Lots of connection options on rear.. can be plugged into hi fi.. or PC for software upgrades. Excellent! (read more)

I wanted a dab clock radio. Tried the Bush - utter rubbish. Bought this instead (£99 mail order). Infinitely better. Only bad points are minor - see above.
If you are thinking about buying it as a radio and not a clock/radio, buy the Teac instead - the sound is much, much better.

This Pure Digital Tempus-1 is a very nice dab digital radio. The sound is crisp and clear and the cunning "bass reflex" system gives added realism to speech and music. It's easy to set up and operate with a consistent menu system if you are used to these things, but for the average person who's used to a dial-tune Roberts portable, a challenge too far.
Once set up, it's reasonably easy to operate - one knob for volume and one to click between stations. A few presets, menu and sleep complete...

I have experienced the above. 3 years old. Blue screen of death. Cant even turn it of in the normal way. Totally dead and a piece of sh*t. Will never buy PURE again.
