Great to have a Waterstones in Crouch End, but I wish they would just allow me let to quietly browse, and not try and push titles on to me to buy with their enthusiastic hard sell. It's not necessary, and is a bit of a turn off ....

On a recent trip to London, I happened upon the Waterstones branch in Gower street. It is the most amazing bookshop I've ever been in - like Hamley's for books! The place is sooo big you are just left alone to explore at your leisure without assistants bothering you every few minutes to pester you into buying a book. The layout of the shop makes you feel like you're in an Aladdin's cave, like might chance upon a hidden gem of a book no-one has seen in years. As you would expect they have books on everything and anything. Subjects you didn't even know existed, they have entire sections on! I found a quiet place and had a bit of a read of a number of books (only actually buying one!). I then discovered the Coffee shop tucked away and enjoyed a latte. One word of warning. The prices are not "Amazon" prices and how this place can compete in the modern world of kindles and online shopping I don't know, but for a true "try-before-you-buy" experience I doubt you could do better! All in all this place is the best book shop I have ever been to. Just being in there makes me feel cleverer!

I overall really like Waterstone's they have a wide range of all different books from children's to text books, graphic novels to biographies, cooking to photography and much much more. The only thing I can fault this store on is the lack of graphic novel's and Manga books, they seem to only bring one volume out of the whole set in every so often and continue to order in the same one and don't have a very large selection. The amount of stock in the store is far greater than any book store I have ever been to and the prices are pleasing they often have offers on as well which is a plus. Far better than WHsmith and I will continue to shop here as I have done for a while, it is warm and pleasant and the people working there don't bother you unless you ask for their help.

Waterstones - Customer service is excellent, they are friendly and almost always able to find what you are looking for. The store layout in every one I've been in so far is very customer friendly. There are always some up-to-date 'interest' tables for those who can't be bothered to browse alphabetically.

I used to go to waterstones to have a quick read of the books to help me decide which to buy then go to amazon.co.uk to buy the book cheaper. It now seems that the waterstones website goes to amazon - why ?
