Good Points: Comfortable, quiet, fast, good torque levels, pretty good off-road due to 4ETS, efficient good size

Bad Points: MB servicing not rated al all! Do it yourself as it is very straight forward (except oil drain in a silly position). Interior trim quality a bit poor - not strong! Especially central switch cluster, central panel and seat levers. Don't like the design move away from single stalk to dual stalk control on steering wheel.

General comments: A truly great carthe Mercedes 270. This is definitely NOT a "truck" as some might call it as it handles and performs extremely well. I have a 2000 model and live in Zambia. The ML has been brilliant and serves very well as a daily drive (as drives like a car and not a lumbering 4x4) and great long distance cruiser having done numerous 7 - 24hour non-stop journeys in it. It is just big enough to fit three child seats but not so huge that it would be difficult to park. It is also very capable off-road (albeit a bit low on clearance over some of the more extreme terrain). Servicing is very reasonable if done by yourself as is VERY easy to do. All the filters are a breeze to change as are mounted on top of the engine and not really special tools required. We have found MB service in UK and in Zambia to be VERY expensive and rather lacking in quality - NOT value for money there!

I have owned my Mercedes M Class for 1 and a half years (35 000kms) and so far has been reliable.Despite the bad rumors of these cars I have found it to be a very nice car to drive and very practical for what I use it for. Nice car to drive.Very good long distance cruiser.Reasonable economy for a permanent 4x4 (11-12l/100km).Good build quality.Loads of space. I find it is just massively expensive to maintain.Since owning it have had to replace the following:turbo - 100 000kms (expensive)brake ...

Its roomy, got the 7 seater lux pack, evertything works and I can get 7 adults in without a problem. 30MPG not bad for a SUV! Also insurance was not bad cheaper than my Golf GTI! I would but another one if had a chance!

Overall and great car - definitly NOT a "Truck". Feels competent both on the open road and deep in sand/mud. The new model seems to have compromised the off road capability and luggage space with lower ride and small boot.

Out of the rest of ML class (98-05 models)the Mercedes ML 270 cdi would be the best choice for economy and to run, but does have the power there when you need it especially when the turbo kicks in, opt for the lux packs with the 7 seats and tiptronic, in general theses cars are not that bad as they say with certain reviews over the years they are still a brilliant luxury suv compared to other 4x4s on the market as these had the technology way before these new 4x4s are hitting the market, you ca ...

I'd recommend to anyone. I love my car. Easy to drive, easy to park. It has been nothing but reliable and with 60,000 miles on the clock, it has only been in a garage for its service and normal wear and tear.

Overall, The Mercedes M270 is comfortable, suitable for families with outdoor needs ie. enough boot space etc. Luggage space for taking relatives etc. to airports.

I have just been in major crash with this vehicle, jeep total write-off, but I walked away with only whip lash. I totally recommend this vehicle for safety. Just bought another Mercedes ML 270 CDi. I would recommended this Merc to anyone who wants reliability space and comfort.

Quality Control must be sporadic at best. Other owners love this vehicle, but I do not know why. Looks great, but this was a true disappointment. Chrysler should have sold off Daimler-Benz!

The Mercedes M Class is the worst 4wd I have ever owned. I would love to get rid of it but it has a very poor resale value.

My Mercedes Benz M Class ML270CDi is now 5 years old, 82000 miles. I had a New set of Tyres around 50000, 3 services from new. It has been without doubt the best vehicle I have ever owned. It still looks good & runs well.

I have owned my Mercedes Benz M Class ML for 9 months. During this time it has been nothing other than totally reliable and a real joy to own. I towed a large caravan with it across France and Spain and it did so effortlessly. All of the luxury accessories have performed superbly making this car a real treat.

After the first month, I took it back to the garage as I could not stand the thing anymore, after a lot of pressure by me a replacement was offered but because of the amount of money I had already spent on the car for RFL, side bars, mudflaps, personal plate transfer, starshield warranty, I would have had to spend another £1K again on RFL, plate transfer/ handsfree install, so I foolishly decided to stick with it. A month after, I could not take it anymore and it had to go. The next 3 mo ...

I have owned my M Class 270 CDI for two years now and have loved every minute of it. It looks fantastic and has the capability to pull my horsebox with two big horses through the deepest mud, ice and snow with ease (while other so called off roaders and horseboxes are stuck). It's turbo diesel engine is smooth and surprisingly quiet. I was also surprised with it being quick to pull away and has no trouble up hill, as my previous experience with diesels have been sluggish and seemed to struggle ...
