Silent Spring by Rachel Carson is a modern classic and has to be read in the context of the time (cold war/nuclear fall out). Carson highlights the disassociation between man and nature, and how this has been perpetuated into the 21st century by large multi-national companies who are only striving to make a dollar. Rachel Carson,Lord Shackleton, Silent Spring - Carson's argument on banning DDT was powerful. We have banned certain pesticides at home, but we still produce them and export them to other countries. I didn't think this book was very interesting and I didn't think this book was very dull either. It made me think about some of the current issues today that deal with pesticides. Rachel Carson talks about how insecticides are sprayed to kill insects but they not only kill the targeted insect... (read more)
