Loved play bused yo order from them monthly. Last 2 items ordered from them for Christmas and birthday presents. One didn't arrive and had to wait ages for a refund, this time didnt arrive again, but on checking the order, received a refund with no notice of order cancellation. They do not tell you the product is shipping from America and it will take 14 days to get to you. Also, I cancelled my product straight away and they waited two days, informed it had shopped, and then informed me that I couldn't cancel the product as it had shipped!! They did tell me not to worry, they have a 30 day return policy - but I would have to pay the cost of postage - to AMERICA!!! (read more)

I ordered a safety harness for my baby through a seller on Play.com. It was my first time using Play and I never will again! I only tried them because they were slightly cheaper than other places. I ordered my item, then got an email saying that my card details were incorrect, so my order hadn't been processed. I logged back into Play, and put my card details in again. I used to always use play.com its game where so cheap and its service was brilliant i even remember receiving games before there release date. Now they are useless, since that stupid rakuten or whatever took over the website has become less mobile friendly and the user experience has gotten worse. not to mention when you complain you get nowhere. there stock piles must be low and also the big thing that bugs me now, is if ya want to buy from play.com (supposedly) ya gotta sort through all... This Company has undergone a recent take over. Since then their service has become a shambles. Our example is that we pre-ordered a very popular computer game which was due to be received on 26th March 2013. To date (3rd April 2013) we have not received the game. I used to love Play.com and use the website to buy all my dvds cds etc. Since it's become Rakuten they have the worst possible delivery rates and their prices have gone throught the roof. I "pre-ordered" a bluray that was released a week ago and Play are still advising they are awaiting stock!!! If you can't get stock you shouldn't take pre-orders!!! I used to use Play as my default for games and DVDs but since the take over by Rakutan the paid delivery options mean the free option is simply too long. I have waited 7 days for a DVD which is unacceptable. Making people pay for fast delivery is fine but the free option shouldn't be so painful. My default is now Amazon as the free postage is typically much faster. (read more)

I ordered several exclusive steelbooks, each got lost. They asked me to wait a little longer cause customs process could cause delay. After a month they accepted that the packages where lost but by then most of the items where out of stock. They sent me the items still avialable again but this time the mixed up the items and sent me the wrong ones! I use play.com rarely but when I do I end up waiting 2 weeks to a month for the product to arrive. I ordered one item for someones birthday and it never showed up. I had e-mailed play three times and got no response, so I then decided to e-mail the company directly and a response came within two days. Bought a so called jacket/coat from the named section of play, there was a 'duffle coat' in about 8 different colours to choose from. When the item arrived I was surprised how small the package was and when opened, it was actually a sweater hoody type top. Play does have a hoody sweater section but this item was mis sold to me. Had 2 items get lost in the post and so emailed Play and they resent the items again immediately. Every time I have had an issue they have been quick in getting back to me and my issues have been resolved. The only downside is that apparently Play send out an automated email to say a play trade seller has dispatched an item pretty much as soon as you order...when they have not dispatched it yet. Terrible does not begin to describe this awful company! Having ordered several items over Christmas, I a still waiting for a refund for one item I returned. The issue is that the whole set up is geared toward the seller and not the customer. Therefore, every time you contact the seller (as advised), you have to wait another 3 days before Play.com will even entertain assisting you. I ordered a toy for a Christmas present from Play.com on 25th Nov. They arranged for one of their partners IWOOT, whoever they are, to send the toy. I purchased this by mistake as I don't have a blu ray player so then purchased a normal one so needed to return the blu ray version. They wanted to charge me postage for the return which surely should be an on cost for their business and regardless, one of the reasons I buy on line is because of the easy returns policy - generally. I've been using Play for years and until now have never had a problem with the site or had a need to contact their customer services. However, a bug seems to have developed on the site whereby I can only complete a purchase using a single means. For example, if I pay by card OR a single Play.com voucher, the purchase goes through fine...but if I use multiple vouchers or a voucher plus card combination the purchase simply fails. Purchased a Ministry of sound compilation album on the 30th Jan 2012, its now the 8th of January 2013 and still not able to download it. When I tried to download the ZIP file it cut off 200MB into a 1GB download. Re-tried it four times and now its showing as "Download Limit reached". I was used to buy my CDs and DVDs on play.com. After the company is renamed to Rakuten play.com, the quality of customer services deteriorates. If you buy things from them, you need to pray that your transaction is not cancelled or delay in post. Play.com used to be the first place I checked for anything I wanted to buy online. Since they were bought over by Rakuten they've become the last place I check. They've just turned into a marketplace, and if Amazon is the "shopping centre" of market places, Play/Rakuten is the "car boot sale". Every time you buy from them you roll the dice to see if you get a merchant that ships quickly, packages well, posts to your address (some won't ship to Northern Ireland), has the capacity to ship... Since being bought up by Rakuten they appear to have lost their edge. Negative reviews often don't get printed (so what's the point of having a review system?!). Delivery times are utterly random and often without explanation - be very careful if ordering something in time for Christmas for example. I got suckered with a rogue trader (border lands 2) and contacted customer services and after a long wait I eventually got through. I have tried to get the refund from play.com. using their online form gets no response. I ordered Angry Birds Trilogy for PS3 and paid 36.99 (2 euro more expensive than local game shop but thought was convenient) When it arrived I had to pay postman another 14.49 for duty as they are posted from Guernsey (I believe) which is outside the EU. Purchased Gran Turismo 5 from a play trader. Item marked as dispatched within half an hour of purchase. Two weeks later item had not arrived, contacted seller, no response. Tried again a few days later, again, no response... Escalated matter with Play.com, received an automated reply stating aim was to reply within a day - five days later, no response. As you can tell from the rest of the reviews, its obvious that there is an issue with play.com. Mine is that i am still waiting 2 weeks+ for some things i bought, i only get excuses from the people on the other end of the phone. Like many other people, I have used Play.com for many years with no problems. However, I am waiting for Play.com vochers which my children ordered for my birthday on 29 March. It would appear that the Rakuten takeover has diminished their service.
Perhaps Amazon will be able to profit from this?
