Good Points: Lots of torque from a very powerful engine. The quality of materials is excellent.
Bad Points: Unable to put power down due to insufficient tyre width.
General comments: To compare the Mercedes Benz CLK 55 AMG Coupe with the likes of an M3 is to miss the point of this car. The CLK is a grand tourer, aimed to take the driver from A to B in luxury and style. The M3 is aimed at the driving enthusiast who wants to go from A to A for the experience of hard acceleration and cornering in a drivers car.
The CLK55 has massive power for effortless overtaking maneouvers. Although AMG have tweaked the suspension to give the car a more sporty ride, it is far from being a track car and therefore still a grand tourer. The steering wheel has switches to change gear but these only work when driving in manual mode. The switch to engage manual mode is located on the wrong side of the gear lever (ie same side as left hand drive cars).
To sum up, it's a fabulous car with great manners, a refined ride and a top class GT. But don't make the mistake of thinking that AMG have made a sports car out of it.
