The Sharp GX10 is a reasonably good phone for your average person. Although it looks very technically advanced, it is actually of the same standard as would be the Nokia 3210. It's no good for people that want good quality connections, good quality photos or a hard-wearing structure. (read more)

I've had my phone about two months, I didn't pay for it, it was a gift so I can't complain about the price although when they first came out I was disgusted. The phone itself is great, not too big, but not too small that you will lose it. As I mentioned the outer case scratches quite easily. The java games, ringtones and WAP are brilliant, and the storage is immense. Unfortunately I can't say the same for amount of SMS it holds... could of been better. The picture ID calling is great but... (read more)

The Sharp GX10 is my first flip phone. Good quality games camera etc. Compared to some of todays newer phones this was faster and a lot more reliable. The only thing was that the pixels made the screen look slightly blocky but as I said it was one of the first of it's type. I'd definitely reccommend this to someone looking for a fairly low priced phone that will not let them down. (read more)

With the exception of it's sleek design, compact features the Sharp GX10 has one major flaw and that is to do with the data cable and modem installation disk and this flaw really needs to be rectified. The problem is that with the new in thing being broadband you cannot get your modem installation disk to recognise that Broadband it is already installed and that your ISP is a Broadband network therefore GX10 does not run to it's full potential or do what it say's on the packet. Colour Screen - 65,000 colours great for picture viewing and for gaming.

Poly Ringtones - 16 chords, not as good as some 40 chord phones, but it still is great.

Games - Three preset non java games, and one preset Java Game with downloadable ones via Vodafone Live! Fast and 3D

Stylsh - The keypad is very stylish and the outside is very futurised looking.

Having had the GX10 Since it first came out, I have seen loads of better camera and even video phones released since. I think it would suit the GX10's large colour screen better if it used an icon based menu like the GD87. When I first got my phone, I was impressed with its size and the way it looked. Finished in like a titanium grey, it does look the business. The screen is a good size and colors are strong. The camera is pretty good quality if, like me, you are only gonna be taking pictures of people larkin about. Don't expect digital camera quality but it does the job fine for general snaps. hello, sorry to say but, even if you get the data cable, you will not be able to down/up-load pictures to your pc, you can only use the infrared AND the data-cable for using it as a modem to connect your pc to the internet. Don't worry though, you can still e-mail your pics to your pc and download your own pics from the internet. What is good is that you can send a MMS with three pics to save money e-mailing them, do NOT buy the cable for picture transfer, and dont expect a-lot from infrared.

Does anyone have problems with the GPRS/Internet connection feature on this mobile phone? The way one can connect to the Internet is to easy, it’s the same button used for other features and often I have found that I have connected to the net accidentally. On many occasions I have no idea how long I have been connected. Vodafone have announced that they will be charging customers for connecting to Vodafone Live via GPRS. I feel that this is a design error by Sharp and just wondered if anyone else experienced the same problems. Vodafone have said to me that they have had no complaints so far, yet everyone I know that has this phone complains of the same problem.

<br>The GX10 is the best iv used. Ofcourse you cant send PXT to other phone not capable with PXT. But you can send PXT to any phone (as long its network is capable) and it can be viewed on the vodafone website.

86983_Rc.'s Response to RC.'s Review

Written on: 07/04/2003

Listen to me Mark, I've owned and tested both these and many other phones so I know what Im talking about. the T100 is way more stylish but needs a camera. Samsung are releasing a new 65k col camera phone with rotating lens which is slimmer than the chunky GX10. Even the poorer Panasonic GD87 is slimmer. just because a mobile has a built in camera doesnt mean it HAS to be chunky. The screens on all three are of equal vibrancy and good quality with either 4096 or 65k colour and similar sizes. Photos with this phone are still poor compared to the low priced sony A300 - even that can manage VGA resolution which is what you will get on a cheap keyring camera now.
<br>
<br>My advice to anyone looking for a 2.5G flip camera phone would be to test the GX10 for yourself against the GD87, the new Samsung or better still NEC 606 if you want to move up to 3G early.
<br>
<br>If you can't wait then as I said the GX10 isnt a bad phone, just could be better - namely slimmer, more ergonomically designed , better battery , better UI, voice recognition and have proper reminders like every other phone.
<br>
<br>Personally I'm gonna dump it and try the NEC606e
<br>

To download the ringtones ileagally off the internet, just to "tx1.com" (on your pc), go to "poly tones" and search for a tone you want (search for the tone in the "NOKIA 7650" section) right click on "prieview" then click on "open in new window". copy the address shown at the address bar in your gx10 then click "go", it will appear on the screen and you will hear it on your phone.
<br> then download it, if you dont know how to download it from there (when you can hear it in your phone) look in the gx10 manual.
<br> don't tell anyone that works at "tx1.com", even though everyone on the internet can view this, ;-)

The phone was not as heavy as i expected, the phone may be on the bulky side but it still looks good. Opening and closing the flip gives you satisfying click. The phones features itself are good and not to be knocked the only problems i have... (read more)

If you mean unlock it so that it can be used on any Network, I've heard that it's not possible with this phone. I had wanted mine unlocked for use on O2. Carphone Warehouse (who are not biased to Vodafone) said that not only was it not currently possible, but even if you could your use of the phone would be restriced, i.e. no Vodafone Live etc.

I got this phone a few weeks after it was released. Its the best phone ive ever seen and had. Makes a change from nokia all the time. My friend recently got an Ericsson T720i and that can only have 2 games. The picture quality is only 40 000 colours or sumat like that and the camera is worse off 2. It will be a long time before i change phones again. Downloadable game'll keep me goin 4ever. (read more)

Written on: 16/03/2003 by jma.

I have waited ages for my contract to be up so that I could upgrade from the Nokia 8310. It was a good phone but was fed up with Nokia, everyone's got one! So for months have been checking out the reviews for the Siemens S55 and thought when my contract was up I would get that. Called cellular operations and they offered me the Sharp GX10 for a bargain price on. The Siemens S55 was not available and I had gone off the Nokia 7210 cos of the large camera attachment and it's ugly!! Hadn't... (read more)

Have just discovered that in text message mode, it WILL save words not in the dictionary. To do this, when in T9 mode if it doesn't recognise a word, change to normal mode, enter the word you require and then go back to T9 mode. When you next come to enter the word it couldn't find before, it will now bring it up as an option! Excellent and that isn't in the handbook!

Written on: 15/03/2003 by Sasha.

I got this phone for £70 on upgrade and really wasn't expecting to be overwhelmed... i actually intended to sell it for a healthy profit upon its arrival. My previous phone was the nokia 6210, heavily laden with practical features to help you through your day but not really a hell of a lot of fun to own. This is the opposite; the colours and the sounds hit you like a freight train and are far superior to anything sony-ericson or nokia can offer (although the 7210 is a very very good phone). I... I agree that the nokia (3650) is the better phone, however it's too big. I would rather have the Sharp becuase of the size.

I bought the Sharp GX10 on pay as u go for £350. Thought the price for the product was good, definately worth the money as ive previously has the nokia 7650 (sim free) bought it for £450 the day it came out, big mistake, 7650 is awful phone, then bought the 7210 (sim free) for £320 and camera seperately for £75, another total wasre of money, camera quality was awful.
