“Used to be great but now too many charges”

Written on: 22/07/2014 by Natasha168 (1 review written)

I've used Ebay for years on and off for buying and selling. A few points which I think everybody needs to know from past experience. Firstly, even if you send an item sold with tracking details and the buyer claims non receipt Ebay still refund the buyer. First time this happened to me I just accepted the £35 loss but twice? The same thing happened a second time even when I could prove via tracking that the item had been signed for and received at the other end. All I can say is as a buyer… Read Full Review

“massive selling costs with no customer service- not...”

Written on: 23/05/2014 by monty007 (8 reviews written)

i sold my tent on ebay and was flabbergasted to find when I got my fees through that the charged me 10% of the selling fee plus the cost to list the item. why should ebay take 10% of my profits and when you ask then via customer services about the charges they jsut ignore you. still havent had a response. it cheaper to sell on gumtree or any other auction site. this. gave them 1 star as i cant give zero stars… Read Full Review

Actually, they don't take 10% of the profits, they take 10% of the selling price (some categories have just gone up to 11% and they recently applied final value fees to postage as well).

10% of the sale price equates to 20% of the profit if you're pricing to double your money.

That's not including the PayPal fees of 3.4% plus 20p per transaction. If the customer pays with his PayPal balance, ebay/PayPal take 26.8% of your profit, plus 20p!

If the customer pays by debit card, PayPal probably pays 20p, so ebay/PayPal are still taking 26.8% of your profit.

As competition is rife on many items, if you add 50% on to the cost you purchased the item for, ebay/PayPal take a whopping 40.2% of your profit.

They keep getting greedier and greedier and like you say, you can't contact a human being with any authority to act. Recently I have spent an hour or two on two chat sessions, a phone call (to the Philippines!), sent an email, which wasn't answered as usual and even contacted them on Facebook - all to try and sort out a problem on the listing which is their fault and costing me money.

I intend to close my shop after the World Cup starts, because, for me, ebay has become more trouble and expensive than it's worth. I give it zero stars.

“Try before you buy eBay items”

Written on: 07/02/2014

I have tried eBay for both buying and selling and have problems in both ends dealing with disputes. After being sick by the ever-changing TCs and nasty polices, I decided to search for alternatives. UK startup hirejungle.co.uk launched a while ago a service for 'try before you buy' Bay items. I have used it 3 times for buying electronics, having returned my Ipad in one occasion, and I can confirm the service was superb. You should learn from SMEs eBay!! … Read Full Review

“Great for Crooked Sellers!”

Written on: 30/01/2014

Iused to love using Ebay. But, I have grown increasingly disappointed with the increasing number of sellers selling items as new which are actually used or defective, then not being refunded return postage by either seller or Ebay. Feedback is a joke – as this can easily be removed by Ebay for the smallest reason and there appears to be no / little repercussions for the seller who continues with their crooked practices without any other buyers being any wiser. Unlike Amazon, the only way to… Read Full Review

“You have to use Ebay! but sellers need more protection”

Written on: 26/01/2014 by harrisonbenstead (1 review written)

You really have to use Ebay but the sellers really need more protection. You have all the rights if you are the buyer and you can rate them on the transaction. Afew years ago Ebay removed this for buyers which has been an absolute disgrace! I say you must use Ebay as they literally have a monopoly on the market, there are very few other decent second hand websites!… Read Full Review

“Ebay Top notch”

Written on: 04/01/2014 by Deathflowetr (7 reviews written)

The quality and value of goods on sale in the High Street seems to be sliding downhill dramatically in the last few years. Very bland expensive clothing at most stores for example. This trend has not affected Ebay at all. Would rather spend my money on Ebay than the High Street any day… Read Full Review

You sound like a director or shareholder trying to 'up' ebay's score here. Ebay is a disgrace for far too many reasons to mention.

“E Bay sucks!”

Written on: 19/11/2013 by dillboy2013 (1 review written)

E Bay has become a complete waste of time for sellers of anything short of a big company. There fees are prohibitively expensive, the feedback system has more flaws than Hitlers plans and they do not support their sellers despite there promise to do so. Enforcing accepting Paypal payments on sellers just further bolsters their profits and as the companies are now jointly owned, they have total control over what you can and can't do. To be honest it looks like before long they will abolish all… Read Full Review

“UNFAIR TO SELLERS”

Written on: 18/11/2013 by lolsy000 (4 reviews written)

I sell the odd item every now and then, never had a problem until recently a buyer said they never received their item, so I refunded them, no hassle. However upon further investigation and being contacted by other sellers (due to reading the buyers feedback as myself and 2 x other sellers had written "refund given") it turns out the buyer was lying and had been receiving the items. So I contact eBay via email twice, no response.. So I then rang them twice... incredibly unhelpful (I think they… Read Full Review

“eBay Cull! Thousands of Personal eBay Accounts Restricted!”

Written on: 17/11/2013 by jasoncooke93 (42 reviews written)

eBay is currently culling many - if not all, personal eBay accounts across the globe. It's rolling out a Seller Restriction which in layman's terms means, "you can no longer sell on eBay - but you can purchase". Probably in response to pressure from shareholder to be "more like Amazon". However they are not disclosing any info as to why, nor giving sellers the opportunity to upgrade to Pro (business) status. My personal account (started in 2002 & with 1600 x 100% Positive Feedback) has been… Read Full Review
