Good Points: I thought the book did an excellent job of uncovering some previously classified documents and subsequently stories about World War 2. Families of these fliers were never told the stories of the gruesome deaths of there sons, husbands, fathers, or siblings. The graphic and frightening killing of soldiers and civilians on both sides was especially troubling yet an inevitable consequence of war.

Bad Points: The book discusses long-ago previous history of US atrocities to balance those of the Japanese on soldiers in World War 2.

General comments: James Bradley's Flyboys was a well done review of lost or classified histroy of some of the heroes of World War 2, the pilots who basically won the war for the United States and Britain. Bradley does an excellent job of research of classified documents and interviews to uncover a horrific story of the atrocities of war. The relatively unknown island of Chichi Jima's importance for the battle for the air ways and the ultimate winning of the war in the Pacific was quite well done.
