Avoid Aviva like the plague. They have farmed out the claims handling to Asperia/Crawfords and other remote parts of their organisation. Its an absolute nightmare tracking your claim. Staff are un-helpful and disinterested. Have been waiting since the beginning of August and due to the delaying tactics employed by Aviva have had to pay workmen to complete repairs which were covered under the policy. A dreadful outfit and am pursuing through the financial ombudsman.

I have been waiting almost 12 months for my claim to be settled even although iam using a loss assessor. They try every trick in the book to advoid paying out even on a perfectly legitimate claim even when complying with all their clauses.
They are nothing but crooks, their contents insurance is just a waist of time. Do not use them

My policy is due for renewal next month and has gone up again (not made a claim previously though). I called Norwich Union last week as I damaged my camera but was told it was not covered as it was a personal possesion, not part of my contents insurance... Well I guess by that standard if you have anything in your house and take it outside, it is not part of your "contents" - be sure you get seperate cover or like me, you might find yourself on an expensive trip. Having just been quoted £ ...

Motor insurance is just as bad as home insurance. Still waiting on a simple claim after more than 3 years. Call centre is useless. Avoid Norwich Union/Aviza/Winscale like the plague!

Appalling customer service, call centre staff rude and offensive, when made a complaint about the call centre member of staff was just given the brush off. Had been with Norwich Union Direct Home Insurance almost a year at this time. Stopped the insurance, this company take your money but not pay out when it is needed even when you have never claimed for the last 10 years.

Have been with norwich union almost a year for both my car and household insurance and I can honestly say I will never ever ever go with them again. The contract they give you is not worth the paper it is written on. They delay as long as possible, keep you on the phone as long as possible. Every person you speak to go gives you a different response to your claim. I have a limit on any one personal item up to the valu eof £1,500 and yet I cannot get them to pay for lost reading glasse ...

We have a claim relating to subsidence caused by a tree belonging to the local authority. The service we have had from Norwich Union Direct Home Insurance has been awful, we have spent hours on the phone chasing them. We had builders start the job on 5th Jan they were awful, we stopped them working on 9th Jan and are still left now (in Feb) with furniture in hallways, plastic sheeting covering half the house-and not contact from NU.

We were burgled in August and apart from the pathetic response by the police (another story altogether) Norwich Union Direct or should I say Cunningham & Lindsay their claims assessors, have not been very helpful. I have now found a quote for £22 per month which gives better cover where I was paying £43 with NUD. I am still waiting for the balance of the payment four months later. I have now cancelled every policy I had with this organisation and will never touch them again.

We had a fire back in June and our Central Heating boiler was destroyed.
Originally Norwich Union would not pay as they said the fire was caused by an electrical fault. We took photographs and these were sent to their centre. After 3 weeks an Assessor was sent out. He recommended that NU pay up. We are receiving a cheque shortly but not for the full amount.
Asprea did not recommend a flush through of the system. We consulted 3 other plumbers and they all recommend this for new boilers. However, ...

My premium with Norwich Union home insurance increased over 100% in 3 years. They tried to blame computer error. £158 3 years ago, £326 now but cut to £210 - I have only had 3 claims in nearly 10 years.
I was passed back and forward to different departmants time and time again nobody was very helpful.

What on earth is going wrong at Norwich Union Direct? Why don't they try phoning as a punter and listen for themselves how frustrating it is.
There used to be good points about Norwich Union Direct not any more...their phone service answered by a woman's voice machine is usless. I eventually got through to someone who confirmed there were problems took details of the problem I wanted to discuss my car renewal. Then suddenly I was cut off, they have my telephone no on my current details...so fa ...

I had a house fire they promised me rented accommodation. An interim payment to buy clothes and things and I got nothing they have left me homeless for the last eleven weeks. I made a statement 3 weeks ago about the night of the fire and am still waiting for the copy to sign I mean how can it take three weeks to type a statement, they sent a firm out to board the property up and they would not do it on grounds of health and safety I had to get my own builder in to board the property up which Nor ...

I had a leak from the toilet cistern on the 23rd of December. As we have emergency cover phoned we phoned them so that they would get a plumber out to us. After waiting all day and several phone calls later we were told they were still trying. We spent Christmas week with a house full of relatives and the only toilet had to be flushed with a bucket of water. Thanks Norwich Union!

I made a claim with Norwich Union Direct Home Insurance for damage to my wife's engagement ring only to be told that we weren't covered even though we had accidental damage cover on contents removed from the home for up to 30 days because it was a 'personal belonging' and not a content! Which content of my house is not a personal belonging?

The price is very reasonable. The cover is excellent. I have been with NUD for several years. Each renewal I shop around and whilst I can sometime beat the price by a few pounds, I am so happy with the claims experience that I am prepared to pay a little extra for the excellent peace of mind. After all - that's what insurance is for.

Difficult to contact and kept on hold. Was told my claim was with Norwich Union Direct, then called NUD and was told my claim was with NU.Eventually they tracked down my policy. NUD tried everything possible to get out of paying. Leave well alone.

I had to claim on my home insurance after a neighbour caused damage to my property. Initially Norwich Union Direct said I had a claim and it would be fine, then they appointed a loss adjuster who told me all was ok. Then builder came and he said it was subsidence, which it wasn't. NU then said I would have to pay 1k excess. I argued about subsidence bit as I wasn't a builder it didn't seem to matter what I said. Then a structural engineer came and said it wasn't subsidence but damage from my n ...
