Reads wonderfully as a narrative, while still retaining the authenticity and properness of a historical chronicle. I did occassionaly get lost in the sea of names and places, but helpful charts and footnotes help with clarification, and it isn't bad enough to distrupt the flow of the book. Overall, Muhammad by Martin Lings is a great read -- very informative, insipirational and insightful.

Very interesting to read, very descriptive explanation of Muhammad's history. I often forgot who's who when I read this amazing biography. It's just because too many names, but few reminder of the person. Great book. Moslem anywhere should read this biography.- Read Guest's review (41 words)

Absolutely excellent presented by Martin and I really liked, although he doesn't go into deep history of Muhammad and Islam like Imam Anwar al Awlaki did but again Martin is fantastic. He presented in a very clear and understandable way with very good English. I love it! All i can say is a wanderfull well presented and he is great.- Read Guest's review (60 words)

Martin Ling's 'Muhammad: His Life Based on the Earliest Sources' is definitely a bad start for non Muslims who are interested in prophet Mohammad as it doesn't say much about his teaching, his everyday sacrificial lifestyle and his attitude towards every living being.
I think that it's better to start by knowing his teachings first as well as how he set example for others by doing it first thus letting events described here unveil their significance in that light.
It should be read along side ...- Read firefoxy's review (143 words)
