Good Points: Reliable, plays many formats.

Bad Points: Nothing comes to mind

    General comments: Hello,
bought this several years ago and it's still going strong.
It was a basic Tesco DVD player, my first, for about £90 I think, cheap at the time!

It's still going strong, no lip synch problems noticed, picture is fine, mp3 playback is fine. I don't think our machine does svcd playback but I can't be sure off hand and I rarely use this format.

Very happy with it, it's had no problems that a lens cleaner didn't fix.
A good buy, I was especially relieved that it played vcds as we have a bunch of them.

    By for now

Bought at Tesco, this is my third. My first had a lipsync fault (pix arrive @screen before sound), the second had a whislting power supply in standby & the third acts just like the first only it occasionally goes blockey as well. I like the way it has lots of outputs, although months down the line i'm thinking about taking this one back as well. Does anyone know if theres a firmware upgrade to cure the lipsync fault?

Bought this from Tesco's to replace my Mico A980 (which stopped working just short of three years use). Unfortunately the picture is blocky on dark and black scenes and the sound is out of sync with the vision. This appears to be worse on some discs than others. So I'm afraid it's going back tomorrow.

I bought this player 10 days ago after having read the reviews for the 852 model. Bad error . . . I find that the sound is often out of synch with the lips and more annoyingly that the image is a bit shaky, as if jumping ahead. It never does this with my son's PS2 that I used so far to play my DVDs (although the sound is loads better). I will try the tips read on these reviews but I am seriously considering returning it.

Ok this is a good budget dvd player. Clear picture and never had a problem with it. It also has inbuilt 5.1 decoder. Remote butttons (especially menu are a bit small but you soon get used to it) The only problem which is bugging me is that although it is sold as NOT vcd compatable most people seem to be able to play vcd's on it except me! Tesco helpline said that it is not sold as vcd compatable but it seems to play them 99% of the time. I guess I must be the 1%! No reason why and no firmware up ...

I was happy with the package; price, features and overall quality. And it'll play any disc you throw at it! If i was to pick a fault it would have to be the picture quality. I had a Reoc A3 and the picture and sound was amazing for £89.99 but it didn't play SVCD or DVDR's etc. You can't have everything, especially in the Dansai's price range.

Purchased a 955 this christmas (2002). Works perfectly. Plays all the formats you could wish for straight out of the box. Picture quality is superb, just ensure you select RGB and that the scart socket into which you are plugged is RGB compatible.
The region hack works OK. Had a little trouble at first. Once you have selected 0 from the region list, ensure you hit enter to set it, then it works fine.
This player looks good and has all the outputs you would ever need i.e. SCART, 5 channel phono ...

I had a Dansai 952 for 5 months but that broke so I went to Tescos today and got a replacement Dansai 955. Bad move ! The picture quality is poor in terms of sharpness and colour saturation and even worse, the Lip Sync is out on a number of Titles that I have (for example, The Thin Blue Line, The Full Monty and The Office'. The Lip Syns seems to be bad after I have use a Fast Forward. I spoke to the Tesco's Helpline and they have told me to go back and exchange it. I will, but not for a Dansai !

The Dansai 955 dvd player plays most common formats and even some you wouldn't think of. Whats interesting is the optical output allowing digital cd recording. Playing mp3s on standard compiled cds is an interesting feature. It also plays standard vcds too. By default it only plays uk discs but you can soon change that!
Its a good buy at the current price.

At first I was well impressed, here we seemed to have a DVD player which supports all the formats a man can need, including SVCD. However the doubts have started to appear ...
Sound appears to be okay, however on playback LOTR shows artifacts which were not present with the previous samsung that I had, also there was an element of blockiness about that black.
Worse when playing back RC1 disks , the sound was horribly out of sync with the picture , my output was set to RGB... yet still this per ...
