“Car is like lightening and looks so good in black. I...”

Car is like lightening and looks so good in black. I am lucky enough to own one one with only 1 rust spot. It flies like no other car I have owned. I've had other cars with 150bhp and none went this fast. Even after 12 yrs it still has a proper car smell. When it gets warm you can smell it on you. Handles well too! Plus I got 38mpg out of it.
This is a car I am going to keep and spend some cash on because it deserves it and I actually think the Mk3 is the nicest one of all of them! Go on buy... (read more)

“Volkswagen GTi 16V: ”

Volkswagen GTi 16V:
Unmistakable german build quality coupled with performance that will give most hot-hatches a run for there money. Engine is nice and torquey once up get the revs up which also means it makes for a good motorway cruiser. Only down side is the insurance, group 16! But thats down to insurance companies taking the micky! (read more)

The 8v is slower than the 16v, but you need to know how to drive the 16v at its quickest to despatch one on a circuit or street. having owned 5 now, including a valver, there is not THAT much in them. I prefer 8v's as they have a better torque curve, but the 16's are a good car.

I ran a '97 8V GTI for about two years and found it more than the equal of my mates valver. After i'd upgraded the air filter, exhaust, and had it chipped - it went like hell, not too quick off the line coz they're heavy beasts, but catch the powerband when the engine was on cam and it was a real flier. But if you're after a really quick golf that can still embarrass todays hot hatches then go for a 16v MK2 - the best golf ever made.

Ive owned an 8v and 16v mk3 GTI. The 8v has more tourque but struggles with fast overtaking and top speed, only got just under 125mph out of my 8v but still a nippy little car, Get the 16v over 4000rpm and it all starts to happen. Ive seen off my mates VR6, GT 170 and V6 4-Motion in my 16v, if you like lazy driving then 8v it is but if you dont mind giving it a little right foot and getting the revs up a little the 16v will sing all the way to 140mph. Mk3's are a little weighty but some decent shocks and spring and a front strut brace seem to sort that out and if your after a bit more power a custom made exhaust high flow sports cat and a car specific induction kit or panel filter will help the car breath and maybe free up another 10-15bhp.

Loaded with torque, the 16V VW Golf GTi is still one of the most exciting sport compact cars on the streets. The engine revs high and this car is lightning off the line. Handling is suburb stock and magnificent with just a little modification. With engine mods, car can really move and make Hondas look even worse than normal! After 150k, engine is still strong with only repairs being replaced plugs, wires, distributor, battery and upper/lower radiator hoses. Make sure and use premium... (read more)
