I took out an Egg Card just after I finished university. I spent up to my £800 limit whilst looking for a job and then stopped using the card and started paying the minimum off each month. Five years later I log into my account to look at the balance and pay it off and see my account is at £900! I had been paying for Payment Protection Insurance that I didn't even realise I had taken out. I made an initial complaint and Egg informed me that I had agreed to the insurance in July 2004- I was unemployed at this time having just graduated and so wasn't even eligible for the insurance! I received an apology letter from Egg and they refunded around £500 to me. I then called and asked for a settlement figure which they don't give out. I had to pay off the balance plus a little extra to cover the interest due to the acciunt (even though this was only 2 days after my last bill). I emailed egg to say I wanted to close my account when the next statement came out, they emailed me back on the day of my next statement but when I went to log into my online account I entered the wrong password ONCE and was immediately locked out of my account. I called their customer service number who could only access my account if they had my card number, I haven't had a card for this account since 2004! I have now been told I need to call my bank who should be able to give me the card number and then call Egg back again!!! 3 months and about 7 calls to an 0845 number later and I still haven't managed to close my account, and they are charging me interest. Do not use this product!

DO NOT use them if you value your sanity. I have been with Egg for 10 years and normally pay off my balance every month, although due to unusual circumstances I've carried a balance for a few months now. Never missed a payment. I just cancelled my Payment Protection insurance, and the very next day received an email hiking my interest rate to the maximum limit (26%). Their customer service people are either trained to fob you off with nonsensical answers or just plain gormless. Avoid this c ...

Having been an egg customer, mortgage, credit card, savings, pretty well everything they offer at one time or another over 15 years, I have just had my interest rate increased to 21.9%. I mean! 21.9% when general interest rates are at rock bottom. The interest rate has slowly crept up over the years, but this is beyond the pale. Way to go to keep your customers happy egg. I've never missed a payment in all these years of business with them and feel utterly insulted by this treatment. Needless to ...

I've been a Egg Customer from the beginning and initially found them to be very good (good rate on savings, great/easy to use website etc)but appalled at the interest rates hikes on their credit card for the last 12 months or so. I've risen from 17% to 26.9 due to 'personal reviews'. When challenged this Egg would only given me a general explanation about interest rates (which makes no sense since they're dropping) and the 'current economic climate'. They claimed they weren't able to comment on ...

Shocking Customer Service. To many things to mention. I've been with EGG credit card since they stated. Abuse them for the 0% rate and then get rid. I have given them 1 star out of 5 as they would not let me out none!

While sucked in by the 0% transfer like many others I hadn't until the recession hit counted on being double charged and facing customer service who say one thing and don't do it.

I was double charged (2 x £16) for being over my limit over two months even though I made a one-off payment as soon as I was able in the 2nd month to bring my balance below my limit. Online customer service was responsive and agreed to refund the charge within 5 days. It's over 20 days later now but they haven' ...

I have been a customer of Egg for many years now, both with a loan and a credit card.
I am reviewing my finances at the moment so checked my online statement for my loan. I have just discovered that they have added payment protection insurance even though I said I didn't want it and have a letter from them to confirm this. This is an extra £2133.45 on an initial loan of £5000. Have just emailed and await their reply......
The credit card I have from them is even worse. They have rec ...

I have been customer with egg for 2 year, and when I found our that I had fraud on my card I reported immediately, however egg has never came back to me.

    Customer service is terrible.
Also, the only one way to communicate to egg is by the phone and the call will cost you a lot

Absolutely useless. I've been a customer with Egg Credit Card since they launched. They used to give a good interest rate on savings and a decent rate on they're EGG card. Since being taken over by the CITI group, EGG has gone down the toilet. My card is constantly being blocked even thought my credit limit if five figures and my salary 6 figures. They obviously just want bad repayers who they can bleed dry.

Egg started off well, as a new internet provider I used them for both my credit card and my car insurance and they were extremely competitive. Since then they have become what I can only describe as money grabbing and verging on irresponsible lenders. They recently raised my interest rate on my credit card from 16.9% to 21.9%, despite the fact that I was within my limit, and in the 6 or so years I've had the card I've never once gone over my limit and have always made payments on time. Sometimes ...

Egg Credit Card draw you in by good rates and promotional offers, but if you spend 1 penny out of the promotional period, they hit you with huge rates, forget all promotional agreements and do not want to know you. Be very very carefull, you have been warned.

I was one of the people who joined up with Egg in their early days and have to say that the transformation has been staggering. The rate of decline in customer service levels has been matched only by a increasing hike in interest rates. I have a had a couple of very difficult years financially but have continued to meet payments by direct debit. My reward for struggling by is a new interest rate of 26.9% and the introduction of a new 'revolving balance' minimum payment obligation. This has incre ...

I have had an Egg credit card for about 3 years. Mostly it has run along OK during that time, with just the usual minor irritations of seeing introductory offers inviting people to run up debts they can't afford that existing customers then pay for with their much higher interest rates/charges - but that is just the usual bankers folly that has led the UK economy to its current pretty pass!
On my most recent statement, however, I found that although I had as I thought cleared the balance (£ ...

I have had an Egg card since they more or less started up and they seemed to be members of the human race. I have never once in this time gone over my credit limit, or not paid them. I have cleared my account in full on several occasions and made every effort in these uncertain times to pay off more than the minimum amount every month. Now I don't use the card, I simply pay off the balance monthly.Unfortunately in the past year I have had some personal financial difficulties and have had numerou ...

I used Egg to balance transfer from a couple of other cards.
I was told the limit I could transfer. I made my first payment by card and set up a direct debit for consequent payments. Then looked forward to a year of hassle free 0% payments. Boy was that a mistake on my part!
After paying the first payment I thought I had a bit of money to spend which I needed for petrol - my card was declined. I rang Egg who told me I was maxed out due to the high interest I was paying on my card - eh??
    It turn ...

Changed my interest rate to 19.9% without warning so low and behold pushed me back over my credit limit and charging me £16. I paid what they asked me to pay and and monthly instalment, still did it. Sent many messages, had to ask for a response, when I did get one back it seemed very bog-standard! Called to speak to an advisor and was left on hold for 25 mins (obviously not freephone) after I was locked out of my own account so I can't even access my account to move my balance off this c ...

Appalling customer service. My Egg card was used fraudulently. It has taken Egg since November to sort it out (it is now July). They then closed my account because I had been delinquent for 120 days. At no stage did they write to me to inform me that my account was delinquent - they relied on emails that I never received. My credit rating was totally messed up for months. You cannot get the same answer twice from their "customer services" and getting hold of the fraud desk is nigh on impossible. ...
