Good Points: website is quite easy to access

Bad Points: corporate, money grabbing, unsympathetic, not very clever staff

General comments: Absolutely and totally ruthless when it comes to profit. Assuming the Virgin brand means anything the antics of their credit card department will hopefully drive it into the dirt. Have a perfect payment history with them for over 6 years and have just received a letter from them telling me that my interest rate is going up from 16% to 34%. I can stay on 16% but I must never use the card again, just pay my balance off!

When setting up my card I was harrassed by customer services trying to sell me more products, insulting my intelligence and treating me like I was irresponsible. Also, I pay 10 times minimum payment each month as soon as I get paid, yet because this isn't paid within the 15 days between statement date and payment date, I am charged £12 fee and have my 0% intrerest taken off me. Customer Services are extrenely rude, unhelpful and unsympathetic - they just say 'You signed up to terms and co ...

Largely the same as other comments here - missed payment date by 1 day due to being away on holiday (pay by internet transfer rather than direct debit) and had 0% pulled and £12 fee. This was compounded the following month by timing and misunderstnading the amount they wanted paying (arrears + that month + penalty) and therefore getting another penalty. I shut down my Virgin credit card shortly after that (although they took some persuading). I was so annoyed I transferred the balance to ...

Paid my account by bank transfer which cleared one day late was charged a £12 fee, interest and my O% on purchases was cancelled. I phoned customer services who agreed to re-instate the 0%. I cannot understand why the payment took so long to clear as two other accounts I paid on the same day cleared the following day. Virgin say it is because they are not a clearing bank but neither are the other two - strange.I asked them to waiver the fee and interest as a goodwill gesture and they r ...

I took out the Virgin Credit Card as it currently has the longest 0% balance transfer period of 16 months.Everything was very simple about the set-up process and I received the card and details very promptly. The customer service staff were very good at the time of setting up the balance transfer. However, I set up a regular standing order from my bank to pay a set amount (a lot more than the minimum) but unfortunately Virgin set the monthly payment deadline to earlier than my payment was due to ...

Everything was going well with Virgin Credit Card - I was paying off my debt then Virgin decide that they will introduce a minimum payment. This means that I'm nearly paying as much interest as I am paying off each month. Is is any wonder the economy is in such a state when companies like Virgin can get away with this sort of stuff?

Virgin Credit Card increased my APR from 15.9% to 29.9% without telling me... though they claim to have sent a letter... then they tried to increase it further to 34.9% - this time giving me a chance to "opt out" if I promise never to use the card again...What's going on?!? In July 2008 I was on 15.9%... so they want to suddenly more than double that...?!?There should be laws against things like that.

I paid my Virgin Credit Card balance off early so on a zero balance was still charged £12 for cancelling my direct debit . I paid the £12 to a member of staff over the phone via my debit card, he told me he would close down the account and there would be no more charges to pay. Low and behold this morning another statement arrived with a balance of £13.52 interest charge.I believe this will be interest on the £12 however it totally contradicts one of their terms which ...

I have found that if you're payment doesn't reach Virgin Credit Cards in time (3 or 4 days late, for example) you automatically get excessive phone calls from debt collection agencies demanding the payment that has already been made and thta has already left your acc days ago -outrageous ! Their response is it's a timing issue : my response to that is that that's not good enough..

After my initial 0% interest rate with Virgin Credit Card finished I have received letters every 6 months telling me my interest rate is increasing up to 34.9%! After a phone call they drop it back down again. This week I received a new one. A letter telling me that my rate is increasing to 26.9%. They give you the option to "opt out" and keep your current ineterest rate, but if you choose to do this then they will stop all transactions on your account until you have cleared your account, at ...

There method of operation seems to be let customers build up a balance at a reasonable APR then once it's high increase the APR to 35% Smacks of dirty tricks to me. They are fools because I will tell as many people as I can and close the account ASAP!

I applied online and skim read the paperwork. Now 8 months later I realise I am being charged interest on amounts I spend, before the statement has arrived. This I am told is common practise (not with my other 2 cards). Also when I said I wanted to pay off the amout I had spent and leave just the transfer balance I was told I am unable to do that and that any money I now pay will decrease my transferred amount and I will be charged interest on the rest. I am now going to pay the card off and can ...

Having opened up the credit card with the basic offer I noticed a creeping interest rate, with th end result that I eventually got a letter saying that they would be increasing the rate to 34%. I immediately rang up to pay off the balance, at which point they offered to reduce it. It appears that Virgins Modus Operandi is to see how much pain the customer will take and then reduce it accordingly when they decide to opt out. Interestingly enough they then charged me 12 pounds interest on a retu ...

Having applied online for a Virgin credit card and requested balance transfers from other cards, Virgin set a credit limit lower than the ammounts they transferred. when I recieved the first statement I had an overlimit fee of £12 applied and this was the first time I had been informed of the credit limit. As I hadn't as yet used the card this was entirely virgins mistake the fee was duly recredited to the account. 2 months later my card had interest applied to it, as it was supposed to b ...

The interest rates on the Virgin Credit card seem extortionate and they have VERY poor customer service; after paying a large sum of my balance off, I was phoned up and asked "where did you get this money to pay off from sir?"! After which they said that "Due to your spending patterns we are reducing your limit to £500" (from £2000). What a really awful lender.

I sent my cheque for payment via first class mail five days before payment was due. I felt that this was ample time to honour payment and not to incur an interest charge. However I was stunned to see a charge on my account for interest when I accessed my details online. I phoned Virgin customer services and the response was that I was late in paying, which definitely was not true, unless Royal Mail first class deliveries are 'totally' inadequate. I advised Virgin that I was canceling my card and ...

Once I got through they refunded me all of the interest and late payments (around £800) and gave me the interest free period. General muck-up on their part. Their system took the d/d details, but for some reason it kept the 1st ammount outstanding, this carried on for 7 months until I noticed.

After a year or so of absolutely fine service, then suddenly decided to hike my interest rate up from 14.9% to 26.4% over a period of six months. When I complained, I was told that the interest rates were at the discretion of Virgin, and could not be changed. Considering that new customers are being drawn in with a rate of 15.9%, with 0% on balance transfers and purchases as an introductory offer, I'm disgusted at how they treat customers who've been with them for a lot longer. I'm now transferr ...

Having transferred two credit cards over to a Virgin Money card with a 0% interest period, I paid the first minimum payment before my due date and then about a week later paid more than twice the minimum payment I expected for the next statement to ensure I would not miss a payment. Despite this, Virgin charged me £12 in late fees + £22 interest and removed my interest free period. This is because unlike other cards, you can only make a 'minimum payment' between the statement date ...
