CalPop have consistantly shown that they have little to no experience or knowledge of servers, operating systems or general hardware.
One issue was the result of a CPU fan failing causing the server to crash periodically. After telling us categorically that they had checked the fans they later came back saying that they had replaced a failed fan and that all was no working. This took several days to resolve, during which time the server was down more than up.
The support staff don't seem to know what they're doing either. At one point the support guy we were dealing with took a photo of the screen on our server and emailed it to us to see if we knew what the log-file was showing! They don't even know how to print-screen!
I would never recommend this company to anyone. Ever!

For a simple reboot it takes about 5 to 10 min. The Supervisor who dealt with me personally was one of the most rude person I have ever dealt with, no professionalism nor knowledge of whats going on in my opinion.
IF calpop wants to be come one of the biggest data center of LA, they should consider changing management and hire more knowledgeably techs in my opinion.- Read techspace's review (68 words)

I started an e-commerce business, and went to Calpop looking for the least expensive hosting. I had two network outages during the day, one of four hours, one for maybe 1.5 hours. This is very expensive for me in terms of lost revenue and customer confidence. I switched to a local (Denver) hosting service. Even though I pay about 50% more for hosting, it is well worth it and still not very expensive. If you don't need serious reliability, Calpop may be a very good choice. I have thought of using ...- Read Guest's review (104 words)

Only a few people there seem to know their stuff, if you can catch them and if they're even working when you try to get help. Otherwise, forget it. I've been waiting for hours now for them to respond to my ticket but I haven't heard a peep. This isn't the first time either. I've had three "bad" problems due to hardware failure, and they've all taken days to get repaired.
Avoid them. They're cheap, yes, and you get exactly what you pay for. If you're looking for slow response, or no response, or ...- Read dltbr's review (128 words)

Condescending tech support in my opinion as I personally feel I have had no help when my server was on the fritz. Bandwidth not what I was expecting and I am not happy with the billing, I do not recommend Calpop. Something went wrong with EVERY aspect of their service in my experience.- Read Guest's review (63 words)

After a try to upgrade and add another HDD they crashed the server in my opinion, lost all info from second drive and kept my server down for a week.
Affecting my business I feel.
For me personally it has took them too long to answer my tickets, the only way is to call them and ask to look at your ticket in my opinion.
I can't believe any good review here after my nightmare with calpop.- Read mvpower's review (92 words)

In the middle of yet another outage right now. As far as I am aware, no response to support hot-line. Web site is down, help link is down. Being going on for about 1.5 hours or more now.
They seem to be down at least once every other month for about 1 or 2 hours. Fortunately, it seems to only happen at night - which makes me think its maintenance stuff quite often without notification.

Hi all.My experience with calpop.com has been totally awesome.I have nothing but good things to say bout them. Nobody paid me or told me to post this, I'm doing it on my own just to show my appreciation to Calpop. They got people with good technical knowhow. I would say one of the best tech supports around. They are always open, you can call in anytime or email them and get a reply or resolution within a few minutes.- Read wintersun892's review (90 words)

Calpop has been in business a while, and at one point did experience what seemed like growing pains that resulted in a few unsatisfied (and very vocal) customers. I'm sure there are MANY more very happy customers no one hears from for every one that complains (I'm was one of them until now). In any case, Calpop now provides stellar services at prices only one of the largest dedicated server companies (THE largest in Los Angeles) can provide, which keeps me with them over the competition.Calpop s ...- Read doommatt1's review (156 words)

We needed two new servers; one for web hosting, and another for email. BOTH servers started crashing right after we were given access to them. We complained to Calpop MANY times, but were eventually told we'd have to PAY for a system reinstall! We never were able to put anything live on either box, and it was a complete waste of time and money. There is no server monitoring, slow response to tickets and they are hard to contact via telephone.- Read jnason's review (83 words)

I have 2 servers here running a busy website.
Hardware good and reliable.
Servers built and upgraded promptly.
Calpop are flexible in their approach. They were the only budget hosting company I found who were prepared to meet my specific requirements rather than simply say, "This is what you get, take it or leave it."
Tech support are good when you really need it, but they are slow in answering non critical queries via email for example. This is my only negative point.

I first got introduced to Calpop Web Hosting by a friend, after a disastrous first incursion into web hosting with another company, also in California. It cost me a lot of money and credibility. Boy, am I glad I switched to Calpop back in October '04 - Coming up on a year now!
The deal I got with them was $99 a month for a Linux RH 9.0 with Direct admin control panel, which is Way cooler than Plesk, H-sphere and all those other CP's combined
