“Good car except for turbo/swirl flap issues to look...”

written by DeggersUK on 05/04/2013

Loved the car, loved the driving position and the entire cockpit. I am 6ft4 so with the drivers seat in the full back position your not getting anyone with legs behind you. Got decent MPG out of the car was a while ago I had one but I seem to recall 35mpg urban and near on 50mpg on a run (80mph cruise control). Only bug bear is the Swirl Flaps are notorious for breaking off and heading into your engine killing it. So have these removed asap, you dont need them!! And of course I was bitten by the turbo going noisey and having to have this replaced. MOT wise, nothing to report failure-wise. Had me for a couple of tyres. Useless in the snow mind, you might as well park it up and sledge in. Would I get another, yes I would.

This car is advertised with around 40mpg urban. It is delivering 30 mpg. Having researched the definition of urban, I am regularly driving to that definition and yet the car still does 30mpg when driven very gently. Extremely disappointed at BMW. On a longer trip it does what is says on the tin, 50mpg but you have to cruise at 70 to get that. So don't be fooled by the urban figure. I had a 3 litre X3 auto before, and that would do 28mpg in town....

The BMW 3 Series 320d SE Saloon is a lovely car to drive, has great handling, smooth engine and automatic transmission. Our crankshaft pulley fell off too at only 52,000 km, and 1 day before the warranty expired!
In my opinion the M-suspension and low-profile tires gives a very noisy ride.
I feel that the foot clearance around the accelerator pedal is too narrow.

“After owning several older BMW cars in the past and...”

★★★☆☆

written by BIGLILS on 02/05/2006

After owning several older BMW cars in the past and been completely happy with them, I decided to purchase a nearly new one at under 2 years old with 13500 miles covered and purchased from a BMW main dealer.I wish I hadn`t bothered!
This car has now covered just 44000 miles and has yet to do 6 months driving without a fault occuring?
Within 2 months the fuel pump failed.
Next the automatic transmission failed.
This took 2 attemps by the dealer to repair.
Next the engine coolant started leaking.
After a inspection at the dealers they order a part for the cooling system and said it was ok to drive until the part arrived.
It lasted one day then throwed all the coolant out.
After that the speedo failed, causing an ABS fault.
The bulb failure keeps flashing on even through all bulbs are ok.
And last of all the main crankshaft pulley fell off loosing all drive power to steering, cooling system etc.
Now when the original tyres on a vehicle outlast a engine crank shaft pulley, you know something is not right !!!!
No I will not be purchasing another one.
I have had 2 nearly new Fords before this one which have cover over 80000 miles each with less problems at half the price !
I believe BMW are riding on their good name and image of the past and should be careful because the the likes of Ford etc have now got quality products at a good price.
And if Ford etc can get the style and image right, then watch the price of BMW`s fall !

You had a terrible experience with your BMW; was it used approved? Maybe most people have a more positive experience?!

My 2002 BMW 3 Series 320d SE Saloon reg 320d se is the best car I've owned and I've had Porsches ,Mercs and Landrovers so on. The build quality is sound and the engine has all the power you could need, it's a quiet ride for a diesel and I'm getting 53mpg, the styling of the car is spot on in every way, I would recommend this car to anyone. P.S I dont work for BMW.

I rate the BMW 3 Series 320d SE Saloon, it is a brilliant executive car, with brilliant leather seating, black kappa back and front seats, a 3.8 engine which runs smoothly and a very good and impressive steering wheel with nice handling.
It feels comfortable and is easy to start. Has Soft gold alloys with working lights that are nice and breezy. Its a brilliant car and I would personally recommend it. It is unlike any car, it is very special with air conditioning and I have installed an ideal suitcase packager with the spare room at the foot rear. Very attractive gold leather covering the outer area of the cd/cassette player and a good car for buisness.

BMW 320d SE Saloon is much better than the 2000 model. Good road handling and very punchy diesel engine - good acceleration and loads of grunt. Interior still fairly bland but functional. 6 speed box is nicely put together and matched well to the 150bhp of the motor
