    Regeneration is a clever and well thought out book which incorporates both factual and fictional characters to portray a true un-rose tinted image of the horror of the First World War. In particular she highlights the mental and physical effects the experience of trench warfare had on these men.

    I was very disappointed with the Regeneration novel by Pat Barker, as it had been recommended to me numerous times. Barker has let the need for her to incorporate famous poets hamper the progression of the novel. Sassoon and Owen seem to have pointless meetings with each other. Sassoon appears to be a weak character, as Barker has concentrated on his turmoil over his declaration, but we never really see how he has been deeply affected by the war. His meetings with Rivers do not reveal enough ...
