Good Points: The world that Stephen King creates is both fascinating and terrifying. His characters are disturbed, sometimes gruesome, and always funny. Even though the story takes place in a fantasy land the majority of the time, it still feels realistic and his use of descriptive words and seamless story telling allow you to see every detail of this fantasy land with your own eyes.
Bad Points: The progression of the story is very slow. If you aren't a person who enjoys reading all about every little detail of every little thing, you may struggle to get through this. It is worth it in the end however.
General comments: Overall, if you are a fan of fantasy, thriller, or horror...or all three, you will enjoy the Dark Tower series. If you are willing to put in the time that is. The average book length, there are seven, is about 650 pages. the 5th one is 900 or so in paperback. But don't let that discourage you, the twists and turns of the plot will keep you turning the pages time and time again.
