Good Points: The novel is a fast-paced, blood soaked, action packed tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Bad Points: Can prove quite expensive to purchase.
General comments: Len Barnhart, Reign of the Dead - Synopsis:
"A worldwide plague causes the dead to walk, and they're attacking the living! A group of just over one hundred survivors seek shelter in a local rescue center. As time passes and the situation deteriorates, the overcrowded shelter becomes a potential deathtrap. The group's leaders then forge a plan to clear out and move to a small correctional facility in an outlying area of the county. As they prepare to move to a more secure refuge, another pocket of survivors led by a delusional religious zealot are forming their own twisted plans. Meanwhile, deep beneath a secret mountaintop government installation, the cumbersome wheels of establishment grind on. As the surviving militant faction seizes control, a small group of scientists struggle to unravel the mysterious origin of the plague. The story culminates in a deadly confrontation between the surviving factions and the living dead. Who will triumph in the end?
Reign of the Dead is a story of horror and heartbreak, good versus evil, love lost then reborn, and about survival against insurmountable odds. Prepare yourself for the Reign of the Dead!"
Len Barnhart's "Reign Of The Dead" is the first novel of his post-apocalyptic zombie series. To date there is only one sequel so far released, entitled "Reign Of The Dead: Apocalypse End", but a third instalment is due out in the autumn of 2006 entitled "Reign Of The Dead: Outbreak". The first two novels have both been released through iUniverse Star publications.
From the start of the novel, the reader is quickly thrown into the devastating turn of events that have brought the human race close to extinction. The story follows a small collection of survivors who have to struggle daily within their desperate situation. Len's writing offers up a thick serving of splatter to keep the average gore fiend happy, while still producing a fast-paced and action packed tale. With haunting similarities to that of Romero's "Dead" series of films, Len has managed to bring in elements of the mental stress and personal conflicts that would undoubtedly arise from such an unbelievable situation.
The book will keep you entertained from the first few pages to the dramatic conclusion, delivering high tension, breath-taking suspense and blood caked action. The book is available in both paperback and hardback, but due to a small number of pressings, it does cost quite a bit. I bought the book in hardback and felt happy with the item I received. The book runs for a total of 272 pages.

Len Barnhart, Reign of the Dead - The book Reign of the Dead is to me just another addition to my zombie collection. I own the George A. Romero trilogy and I also make my own zombie movies ^_^. Anyway, I recommend this book to the zombie lover.- Read ZombieMan's review (95 words)
