“V6 offroad machine will keep up with the rest”

I was looking for a toy to play with offroad with a budget of £3000 I picked a V6 2002 freelander up for £1100 suspected geatbox fault - the solinoid cost me £50 to fix the gearbox. The car is great fitted a two inch lift, snorkel, sump guard, and tank/ silencer guard, spots etc. It not only looks the DBs it is the DBs. I play with YOC 4X4 and all the coments from the guys are possitive, only get stuck in the same places everyone else does. Do it buy one.

“2000 2.5 v6 freelander”

I have had this car for just over a year and found it reliable on and off road even though I have removed the prop shaft to increase fuel consumption, now about 33 to the gallon instead of about 26 on a run. It has not let me down and even pulled me out a big shingle bank on our beach with only two wheel drive by using its traction control and the steptronic gearbox is fantastic. Yes they have common faults but dont all cars....answer YES.

Very expensive car to keep on the road as all the parts needs to be imported from UK to South Africa. Broke down on me so many times that I have stopped counting from the Intercooler, Radiator, Turbo, Prop Shaft ( The thing that makes it 4X4) engine blew up and had to be redone, electric windows not working from start, sunroof keeps on leaking, rev counter jumps up and down like a rabbit. This morning the car didn't want to start and I had to kick-start it. Fuel consumption is very high, about 6Km to an L of Diesel. The hill descent from the start did not work and made a clung sound from the gearbox. To top it all the landy only has 96 000Km on the clock! I would not recommend it to anyone, not even I dislike the person. I am so fed up with this car and Land rover South Africa is so help full that I am still waiting for response from them for over 3 months. So there you go. Good luck if you are planning to buy a Land rover Freelander.

there is no intercooler on a v6 freelander and no turbo either so best check your facts with this review....

I wouldn't recommend the Freelander to anyone even if I didn't like them. I heard once that some 90 plus percent of the people of the world who had never seen a motor vehicle first saw a Land Rover. Not sure it was a motor vehicle, cause it was being pushed.

My overall review of my Freelander 2.5 V6 ES is that I would not reccomend this Land Rover to anyone. It's very costly and very hard to find parts for it when it breaks down. The parts and labor are outrageous. From window the window regulator, water pump, 3 new timing belts, to the axle going out, I haven't had any luck with this rig from the start. Not to mention, the transmission that revs up and down on it's own. Then I have to wait for weeks for the parts to be shipped and in the meantime, I am renting a car that comes out of my pocket.

The Land Rover Freelander 2.5 V6 ES is a very reliable SUV... I've never had a problem with anything in the car, motor or accessories...... it's neat and practical 4wd and better than the competitors for a safe family 4wd, fuel is 10.4/100, and it's great off-road.... For price and safety a great 4wd... never a problem and absolutely nothing rattles in it unlike some other 4wd in the same category.

“When I first tried the Land Rover Freelander 2.5 V6 ES...”

★★☆☆☆

written by alrossuk on 23/02/2004

When I first tried the Land Rover Freelander 2.5 V6 ES I really liked it - comfortable, and handles well. So I ordered one on a PCP plan and have had three long years to repent.

The list of defects goes on and on: overheating repeatedly, oil perpetually leaking into the coolant, failed engine replaced at 24000 miles, failure of the door locks and the central locking, seizing of a brake caliper, dangerous fuel leak, repeated failure of the airconditioning [which is in any case not in any way adequate for its job], electric windows and tailgate glass wound down spontaneously while parked, unexplained loss of power on the road.

Overall my vehicle spent an average of 1 day out of service for every 20 on the road - totally unacceptable.
