If you are looking for a reliable, fun, practical four seater - this is the one!

The new Puma engine and upgraded 6 speed gearbox etc have transformed the Defender into a practical everyday car - I drove mine to Valencia and back from England six weeks ago - it was very relaxing and comfortable and the high driving position is both very safe and gives wonderful views.

Only minor drawback is the fuel consumption (in reality 30-35 mpg), but even this is pretty good considering the weight of the car. I drive a lot of hire cars of varying size and spec for my work, and have to say the Defender is more comfortable and more pleasurable to drive than vurtually all of them - and more economical than many. Even a Toyota prius I hired turned out to only do 45 mpg in the real world (once you took into account the suspiciously 9.9% inaccurate speedo reading - just 0.1 % inside the legal limit and giving an artificially high economy reading) - and besides this the Prius was a pig to drive.

If you need real 4 wheel drive, then get a Land Rover Defender!

If you don't mind the window rattle and the rear mud flaps falling off every 10,000 miles this is an otherwise excellent vehicle. We use it for towing up to 3.5 tonne, off road use around the fram and daily commuting of 90 miles. Yes, you can't hear the radio above 50 mph, and hey - most leak in the rain, I r ...

We have had several Landrover Defenders, all of which have had problems.

We have at the moment got the vehicle in the garage because the brakes failed, somthing you would not expect on a car which has only done 14,000 miles. Apparently it is a common fault, but it would help if they told you this before you went down one of the steepest hills in Derbyshire, and nearly didn't live to tell the tale. Apparently, the break pipe vibrates /chaffes on the Chassis and wears through. Landrover assist ...
