Best piece of advice is avoid this model like the plague. Just google Mondeo TDCI problems and scroll through the hundreds of posts. Case in point is my car. Had it since 19k miles now 77k and injectors and fuel pump kaput. Fsh and all Motorway miles. Repair would cost more than the car. Shame really as when they are running fine they are responsive and frugal. My advice stick to the germans and japanese. In the 1960's 77k miles and game over might be acceptable i think not.

I love my Mondeo. I bought it used with one previous owner for £2000. It has been a company car (previous owner)and serviced regular. It runs like a dream and has more than enough power. Tows my 5 berth caravan no problem. No difference in comfort or performance between this and my 320 BMW 3 Series I had previously. I've had it for almost a year and expected a few issues with it considering it has just short of 200,000 miles on the clock. Replaced the Dual Mass Fly Wheel, Clutch, Starter Motor and Aux Tensioner for £700 (good money) and the wheel bearings for £200. The car currently stands me at £2900 for an 05 Plate. The full electric pack including big screen sat nav is awesome. These engines are bullet proof. Strong and eager to go. Mine is the 130BHP model. The power at the bottom end is superb due to the turbo asnd extra BHP. I'll be getting another one after this one goes to the big car graveyard in the sky which at this rate may be another 200.000 miles.

2.0 TDCi 130 bhp Estate (55 plate). This is now my 3rd Mondeo Estate and I can't fault it, or the other 2 for that matter, althought the 1.8 auto was underpowered for the size of car so didn't keep it long. Had the car nearly 4 years now and the only problem I've had was the rear wiper motor gave up the ghost, managed to find replacement in breakers otherwise new motor would have cost £120 from Ford. Now just short of 67k miles and I am wondering when I'm going to get hit with the £800 for the new clutch. It tends to get through front tyres but with the roadholding it offers then something has to give and I don't hang about. I would recommend this car to anyone and if Clarkson raved about the Mondeo then heh...

I came to UK IN 08, needed a car Went to BCA auction. Saw a car come into the line, looked at the straightness, saw the cruise, 3 mins later I owned it . Before this I had never even heard of a Mondeo Upon starting it , it knocked, turned out was accessory belt tensioner i ignored thatfor 35,000 miles I drove all over Eu as far as Turkey i sat it on 110mph for one solid hour on a German Abahn Mostly though I cruised it at 60. I loved that car, was best car I have ever owned. I am 64 so I have owned a few I took it to NZ, sold it for what I paid at 119000 I want another, will be back in UK soon, but hear they are now belt drivem cam? I dont want that, the places I go i used to compare it in Eu with vw, audi and by comparison they LACK space. They are hugely overpriced and if you buy bmw , audi, vw second hand in uk over mondeo, you are really totally misguided and a badge fool

I have a 2007 mondeo 2.0 tdci as a cab its done 155000 miles with no big probs at the moment its very noisy may be timing chain or aux belt tensioners but its been good till now as with all diesels you must keep them serviced I change the oil every 6000 . I think the ford needs cleaners in the fuel to keep the injectors happy. My peugeot 406 @ 3000000 miles is still going well and quieter but the running gear on new peugeots is not up to the job so i got the ford .Time will tell need another 1000000 miles yet

Just paying my dues since I read much of reviews like this one before making purchase of the car. FORD MONDEO is the best buy I have done so far. I owned 3 cars, Mondeo MK1, Citroen C5, and now this one (2.0 TDCI 130PSI) and drove numerous rentals in EU and USA. By far, this is the best car I owned. I made 25000 km last year, no problems, no issues. Full warranty on the car is must. I had to change left headlight (complete set) as it was fogging up. Warranty covered it and since then it took only oil and fuel. Maintenance free, perfect drive-ability, very dynamic and stylish, outside and inside. Average fuel consumption (combined) is 7.5 litter in winter and 7.2 in summer. I am very pleased. You will be happy with the purchase.

I have driven the Ford Mondeo for the last 5 years, and now I am on my 3rd.
They have always been 2.0ltr TDCI`s. My last one an 07 plate has just completed 100060 miles, reliable all winter and never let me down, huge boot to keep all my search and recue gear, great heater, perfect heated front screen, never had to scrap the front or rear screen at all.
Now I have an 60 plate picked it up yesterday. I just hope this one will keep up with my last, which never let me down, only the garage RGR Cranfield let me down, all the minor damage was caused by the very company that serviced it.

mondeo tdci ghia 130bhp overall i love this car 111000 miles and still dose 50+ to the gallon. The one problem I've had is last week it wouldn't start, as it was -8 outside i first went for a new battery, £59 lighter this didn't cure the starting problem, but would start on a bump, i enquired at my local garage, they said a new starter was needed. They had it for the morning, finding that it wasn't the starter. The car is now in blue bridge ford, and £224 pounds later it looks like the live from the battery to the starter is breaking down, my only problem is there's not one in the ford stock in this country, its coming from Spain. So be aware of this nightmare problem

£200 for a new starter with no gauantee unless i had a new dual mass clutch fitted. £800 for new cluch. If ford know about this problem. They should fix it for free. Just finished paying for car and its been towed back to garage. Ford stands for Forever Off RoaD. Do yourself a favour. Buy a Trabantz or a Lada.

Stay away from this heap of "^$&. its the worst car iv ever had the misfortune to own. iv spent more money on trying to keep it on the road than it cost to buy. 1st the turbo packed up. 2nd the hand brake locked up needing new lines, brakes and callipers, 3rd the stater motor and flywheel needed replacing. FORD YOU SHOULD HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME. i will never buy a ford again. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. DONT BUY THIS CAR

The Fuel injection for the Ford TDCI engine as fitted to the Zetec S 130 PS block IMHO is atrocious. The fuel pump bearings break up and require the pump to be replaced. This causes metal particles to get into the injectors and the whole rest of the fuel system through the fuel return line from the injectors. At £1000 to replace the pump and £392 per injector plus emoval and replacement of all contaminatedpipes and removal and flushing of the tank this is in my opinion , based puerly on bitter personal experience, the unacceptable face of Ford design. And then No3 piston parts company with its crown which smashes the head while the lower half of the piston, still attached to the conrod, then flails around smashing the block and the sump. Buyer beware

mondeo 2.0L TDCI 130BHP zetec duratec engine
DMF needed fitting, starter motor, clutch, hydraulics and slave cylinder.
when i brought this car in march, i thought wow what a car, then all hell broke loose when things started to go wrong.
there was a massive wind noise from the N/s/R door which i cannot sort, ive got a new seal, fitted. the door has been adjusted, but still wind noise (so annoying)
idling the car was noisey, but when the clutch was depressed, the noise went away. not good...
one morning i tried to start the car, and BUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNZZZZZZ is all i got, starter motor went, this was when i was told that the Dual Mass Flywheel had gone along with the clutch and slave cylinder. the starter motor was full of dust from the flywheel.
i had done some calling round of garages who do this very big job and was getting quotes of upto £850. i thought oh my god, i'll just do the starter motor and sell it. no one asked any questions but the only offers i got were between £1100 and £1500. i thought sod that, i'll get it fixed, luckily some one mentioned a specialist in clutches and stuff called A1 CLUTCHES, called them up, £550 all in including check ups at 500 1500 3000 6000 12000 miles as they guarantee it for 2 yrs or 12k. yep i'll have that done, never regretted it since. man that car pulls like a dream, spacious and very economic. cheap to tax as well for a 2.0L engine (£150 12 mths) enormous boot, just an excellent presence when arriving some where, you feel like you have been driven there by some one else it is that good. the lumbar support is great for me, but some may have probs with it, but all in all, a fabulous car now i've spent some money on it and have made it mine.
would recommend to anyone. just a pleasure to drive. if only some one would give me an idea of hw to get rid the wind noise....

I received one as a hire car, how anyone can rate this piece of junk as nice to drive is beyond me. The loud uncouth rattling engine with an uneven spread of power(gutless before the turbo comes in at 1500 revs and no top end) across the rev range is poor even by diesel standards. Interior is cheap looking, overly hard ride for a family saloon car. Its also big and ugly, why would anyone spend their own money on one of these?

I bought my Mondeo estate 12 months ago. It's my first car having friven 4wd until I couldn't afford the diesel to run them anymore! It's a fab car. Totally reliable, tows a dream. Easy to drive, good vision, smooth ride. Love it!

I bought my mondeo tdci 130 zetec second hand just over two years ago and I've had so many problems that I'm about to trade it in and will never buy another Ford.
Looking down the reviews I can see two other people have mentioned the fly wheel going - if you're thinking about buying one of these cars then search the mondeo forums for more info on this subject - it will make you think twice.
In the two years I've owned this car I've spent more on it than it cost to purchase in the first place - in the first year I had to replace three injectors and the starter motor and eventually had to replace the Dual Mass Flywheel and clutch. That was just over a year ago and I'm now starting to get the same symptons of the DMF starting to degrade again.
The car also pulls to the left and despite having the tracking and bearings sorted out last year it's already showing uneven wear on the tyres again.
I had three Ford cars before this one, a petrol mondeo and two escorts - the others were all brilliant but this mondeo has been such a money pit that it's put me off ever buying another Ford. It's a shame as it ticks so many boxes in other ways.

I have been driving company cars for over thirty years, I have driven vauxhall,French and German cars and I can honestly say the new mondeo is the best company vehicle I have driven and I liked my last Mondeo too.
The handling is great, the comfort is superb, the performance is just perfect for a TDCI 2.0 Ltr. During the extreme cold weather and snow conditions, the mondeo did not let me down. The styling is spot on and to this day, 2 years later I still turn around to take a second look before entering my accomadation. This is a sad but true account of the two years of driving this delightful car.
