I would not have bought a book of this nature by own volition, but a well natured friend from the child care centre our smallest one attends gave it to my wife. As one would expect from a book for the youngest of our generation the story is non-challenging - indeed maybe somewhat simplistic. The premise revolves around a boy who seems to use a zoo at a mail order pet shop and the unsatisfactory animals they send him as a results of his poorly written brief to them. We must remember that the book is not grounded a in reality where telephones and freely available. The story apart, it must be said though that my youngest who is the likely intended audience enjoys the book greatly. The flippy-outty bits bring her real joy and although she now knows when each of the animals will appear she is clearly joyous when they do.

Absolutely fantastic book, my toddler has loved Rod Campbell, Dear Zoo for at least a year now and never tires of investigating all the different packing cases the animals are sent in.
