Good Points: Written by the best contemporary story teller and it shows from cover to cover.
Bad Points: I honestly cant think of one from a writing point of view except you become so involved with the story and the characters that at one point I felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. I wont tell you what and when but at one point I was in tears.
General comments: The Shadow in the North is a fast paced, well written yarn with excitement, twists and turns. Richly described characters that you believe in and care about. The most amazing thing is his economy with his words. He manages to describe twice as much as JKR did in the last few Harry Potter books yet they only run to just over 300 pages. He never wastes a single word. Child, teen adult, old fogey - don't care who or what you are, if you can read then read this and anything else by Philip Pullman.
