Have owned the 1.8 113 TDi since april, purchasing from what seemed a fairly reliably dealer. 2 months into purchase, the glow plug light flashes, loses all power, and have to pull over to restart the engine. I took it to the ford garage, they were convinced that replacing the fuel pump at a ridiculously high labor rate would fix the problem. This was the biggest mistake of my life, huge waste of money, 3 months later, the problem occurs again to the point the car wont move at all, there fore forking out £140 for an AA van. And from that point on, i have had the problem occuring every week. i have bought an RAC membership, and have been hitched on to a van 3 times since, each time the ford dealership, attempting to fix the problem. It seems they haven't got a clue what they are doing, or what is wrong with the car. I have wasted about £4G on this scrap metal, and am looking forward to owning a completely different car!, yes apparently this is meant to be reliable, but i wouldn't risk it, get a petrol at least. I also find it amusing how people have problems with the cars handling when some of our cars breakdown every other day!

Bought my focus 1.8 tdci zetec climate just over a year ago. The car is a good all rounder, and never has any problems despite the terrible roads where I live.
Fuel economy is good, realistically around 44mpg around town, 65 on a long journey.
I only have two issues with the car, the boot is quite small, mainly as its a full size spare wheel under the boot floor. The second issue is the drivers seating position, the seat only moves up and down at the back, as opposed to the Vectra i had prev ...- Read Guest's review (130 words)

2008 Ford Focus 1.8 TDci Zetec.
Great looking car with good extras. Drives well with excellent road handling, the car is well planted on the road. Feels solid and safe for young children in the rear. Good MPG.
My only gripe is that the 1.8 engine (8 valve) seems noisy in the first three gears, its better in 4th and in 5th you can cruise along and the engine sounds so refined.- Read Guest's review (68 words)

I had a 2003 model TDCi which was amazing. The ncap safety test rated the car highly. I had to swerve to avoid a van on the A1 and went across 3 lanes, hit the retaining wall and then got hit by a 44 ton artic! The drivers safety cell survived intact although I received multiple injuries and the car was 4 feet shorter. It drove like a dream and was quick at accelerating and had enough power to torque ratio to keep you out of trouble. Plenty of load space and leg room for us tall folk and loads o ...- Read Guest's review (156 words)

the problem seems to be intrinsic as ford refuses to accept that they have a serious problem with their diesel engines continually cutting out and losing power without warning
we have a 1.8 dci focus which has been in the ford main agent garage for 6 weeks without any sign of finding the cause of this problem The Ford customer service is non existant- Read jgibs6's review (92 words)

Overall this is a good workhorse type car, its the first car I have had driven with a sporty feel to it and if you drop down to 3rd coming into a roundabout then if all clear, put your foot down, feel the turbo kick in and it becomes a fun car to drive (so that's why my front tyres didn't last ?) I recommend this car and it would make a great use car buy, I still think it looks a lot better than the new shape focus- Read devir's review (279 words)

I have had the car since September 05 and I am disapointed with it. They seem to have taken everything good out of it it. It is just a car now. I have done 15,000 miles since September and if I could I would change it but I can't. I have had two before and they were very good just right for the job I do and the family. Even my wife complains about it so we use her Focus if we go away .
Not impressed at all.- Read Nicholas presland's review (146 words and 2 comments)

I have had my Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec TDCi 115 Estate for 2 and half years now and have encountered no problems in the 71k covered so far. It can easly do over 500 miles to a tank of fuel and has plenty of power for over taking. Running costs have been very low with the car needing front tyres every 25k and its first set of disks and pads at 50k which I find incredible as I dont tend to hang about. My other car is a 306 Gti6 which would run rings round the Focus on a twisty road but with the except ...- Read PB Symonds's review (309 words)

I have just taken delivery of my Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi 115 3dr version family car. Pleae note it is a Duratorq engine. Not a Zetec, this is the petrol engine type. Having test driven a 1.6 Zetec petrol engine Focus and found the performance dull, although adequate, the 115 bhp engine shows its worth, giving a hefty boost of acceleration when needed. This version also sports the 17" alloy wheels with low profile tyres which gives a better feel of the road. Four wheel disc brakes as well, unlike the ...- Read Duncan Sorrill's review (154 words)

I have had my Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec TDCi 115 3dr Family Car for over two and a half years and it has generally been very reliable. I find that the power range is excellent and perhaps because I am not a boy racer, it has more than enough pulling power to satisfy most of my driving needs. I have driven almost thirty thousand miles a year in it, and can honestly say that this is the best car that I have driven in almost 40 years of driving. I struggle to get close to the fuel performance figures ...- Read argeer's review (145 words)

I am dissapointed with my TDCi. The driver-orientated chassis of the basic Ford Focus has been compromised for the heavier diesel, resulting in a very comfortable ride but ponderous handing. It is a chronic understeerer on the limit making press-on driving tedious. It is required to swallow long business trips and in this regard it excels, being whisper quiet on the motorway at any speed. Any previous German car owner will wince at the tinny clang of the doors - Ford's principle seems to have be ...- Read TrevGo's review (431 words and 1 comment)

The car has superb styling and handling but the creme de la creme is definately the superb 115bhp tdci engine. Forget the old diesel engines that sound like an old bus and smoke more a bonfire full with damp grass. This car is an out and out winner. The accelaration is enough to keep even the most excited drivers leaving the car with a huge smile on there face. I can easily return 45mpg and that is without being sparingly with my driving manner either. If you want a quick car with a sensible hea ...- Read steve henderson's review (155 words)

This is the worst car ever. Every six month is on the shop with something new. Five recalls at this point and counting. The steering gear, fuel tank & pump had to be replaced. There is an electrical problem that stalls the car and they have not been able to figure out. If you are looking for a car look at some other.- Read Rick's review (68 words)
