Our Kia Sedona was 2 years old and had 27000 miles on the clock when we bought it.We had the timing belt changed at 59000 miles(as recommended), and has been regularly maintained by an independant mechanic, after we found the Kia agents were charging extortionate prices for the very basics. We pull a caravan, drive at a sedate pace, and can honestly say it is the best vehicle we have ever owned. It is fuel efficient, handles well, has great pulling power,is extremely comfortable and has... (read more)

This is a great people carrier, ive had mine for 1 year now and there has been nothing wrong with it. It sometimes struggles to pull away from traffic light's if your loaded up in the back. The breaks are good, sometimes when going down the motorway it will get a very slight whistle from the passanger side window, But this is easilly fixed by touching the electric window up button. For space this is great, The middle row passangers have loads of room and the rear passanger's also have a nice... (read more)

Absolute pile of rubbish. Please don't buy one.
It looked nice on the forecourt. 2 weeks after owning it, it started falling to pieces. Juddering on motorway because the tracking was out. Then, after a month, it fails to start.
And then the bills just kept on coming.
What's good about it? I guess if you take the windows and doors off, seats out, and drain the fuel tank, it would make a nice - but expensive - climbing frame for kids.

We bought our 2.9 turbo diesel automatic Sedona at one year old from main dealer with 13,000 miles and one owner. Initially liked it, fuel consumption OK for such a heavy car but servicing frequent at every 6,000 miles (always carried out on time)and always about 300 to 450 pounds. Very heavy smoke with acceleration especially on motorways, quite embarrassing. Failed both MOT's on emissions, had to buy some cleaning jollop and thrash for 10 miles before finally passing. Then at 50,000 miles... (read more)

Why oh why didn't I read these reviews before buying??? I bought this to use for the family, but would probably have been better off paying for taxi's considering the parts costs for this appallingly unreliable car!! £1495 + injectors and pipes for a fuel pump failure, £2,500 for a new Cylinder Head, and the dealership attitude is appalling.
Simply put, please for your own sake do not buy these cars, and my advice steer clear of the KIA RANGE if this is their standard.

Yes its funny how Kia's go wrong just out of warranty, my rear heater pipes went, they are not a 'mechanical part' or a 'body corrosion part'

The car failed an MOT with a worn sterring rack at 41000 mles, and this is not the only car I have heard of with this problems, Kia Suggest 'under inflated tyres', this was not the case as I actually check mine, along with the oil, water etc at least once a week,

Oh and the rear brake pipes are also corroded, something I am astounded at, bearing in mind the age and milage of the vehicle.

Parts are ridiculously expensive (mercedes V clas parts are cheaper!) but I now buy pattern oil filters (Yes Kia, I change my own oil now and twice as often as you recommend)and i'll have my sterring rack reconditioned rather than pay my local uncaring dealer.

I have been a mechanic now for 5 years and have seen this problem a number of times. I replaced the diesel pump on the same car 3 times while it was under warranty, the owner got rid of the car after the 3rd time. I have been led to believe that Kia only offer a 60,000 mile warranty now instead of the unlimited mileage one they used to soley because of this expensive problem. This is something to seriously consider if you are thinking of buying a Sedona as this can cost up to £3500 to repair.

But I was told to phone Kia customer service 0800 775777 so I did they are going to pay about 50% of the bill about £1500 as a good will gesture. I paid £9500 for the car I’ve only done 2550 miles with this car, which is 02 year just out of warranty 36000 mile only. And Delphi should foot the bill.

It all sounds so familiar, sadly....
I have a Sedona, only 35,000 miles and my fuel pump imploded. The usual asking price of £3,000 was the bill of repair. Look at the "sale of goods act" 1973; this makes the seller responsible for the goods that are like mine, out of warranty. Also check if you have finance on the vehicle as the bank or lender will be interested in who is responsible for the car if in a state of disrepair. I have placed the problem firmly in the hands of the dealer and I expect the law to work in my favor. Should this not be the case, I will fight tooth and nail through every court in the land if necessary to gain a satisfactory result and rid the unfortunate public of the failing fuel pumps, broken systems, poor service, shoddy workmanship, inappropriate parts and a general lack of problem solving abilities by a large Corporation. There is quite clearly a problem with this product, Kia should do a recall of all faulty or potentially troublesome vehicles and own to their responsibilities, remember all, we do have rights!!! I have no hesitation whatsoever to go through the legal system and take to task an organisation of this size; a local upvc company attempted the "I’ll rip this bloke off" routine and after a long and tiresome grind of going to court, won my case. It’s time to stand together, make a noise and do not be fobbed off. My next phone call if I do not receive a satisfactory result will be to good old Nicky Campbell at Watchdog, Good luck all with your quest.

I have a Kia sedona 2.9 crdi LE, 05 reg. I too have had a problem with fuel contamination, in my case they said it was water in diesel fuel, caused by using a diesel retailer who allows their tanks to get too empty and thus sucking up water into the tank. My insurance company have just agreed to pay for the £3,000 repairs after a lengthy 31 days arguing with KIA, surely now KIA must do something about their DELPHI fuel systems, if there is at least three of us here who have all had the same problem with our diesel Sedona's, or at least change their Warranty Policy. If they state unlimited Warranty, they should do it. I am very unhappy with KIA and plan to go on to as many review sites for cars as I can and highlight this problem, i suggest we all do the same, at least we can make other prople aware of the potential problems before spending £16,000 then another £3,000 on repairs.

I bought my kia just over 1 year ago. I had only just driven it off the forecourt, when the alternator belt started squealing. Oil was spewing from the side of the block all over the engine. The dealer had the balls to tell me this looked like an earlier repair job and was ok. who were they trying to kid? It turned out the cam-shaft seals had blown, and I had to literally threaten them to get them to repair the car.
This was at 45000 miles. The car is on a 51 plate, and at 52000 miles these have gone again. Now that the warranty has expired, the answer I get from the dealer is "Well you have bought a second hand car!" I have now got to pay for this repair out of my own pocket. It's a disgrace!

I took delivery of my Kia Sedona SX TDI auto in april 2002, I am utterly dissapointed. The car is now on its 3rd yes 3rd, fuel pump, the dealer had the car for well over a month in total. Other problems are constant brake fade, and a quarter ton too much for discs front drums rear. New alternater, rusting tail gate, after one respray, nearly put me out of work as a self enployed cabby. Wish I had kept my 200k milage vectra, much more reliable. do not buy....... (read more)

I've had my Kia Sedona for about 10months now and I think its one of the best MPV's around. I have got the diesel auto Executive. Fuel is good, done a round trip of 420miles on a fuel tank of diesel. Which I think is good. Its a lot of car for the money. Very similiar to a Voyager but a lot less money. Can't fault it at all. (read more)

The reason you love it so much is because you haven't had it for more then a year, just wait!

Ok, I have taken the plunge. We owned a Kia Pride for eleven years without a problem. We then bought a Kia Rio for the wife and a Kia Shuma for me and again, no problems at all (apart from the fact that the Rio is too low down and the wife finds it impossible to reverse). I pick up the Sedona in two days time and hope and pray we will have the same level of trouble free motoring. We scoured the area for decent dealerships with people who cared about us as customers - (and bearing in mind we already owned Kias - you would have thought they would be nicer. But we found one, so far the service has been brilliant and they have gone out of their way to be helpful - lets see if they stay that way once they have the money off me. Its £19,000 worth of beast - I'll be back !

I view the Kia Sedona as the sensible money's choice. It has the specifcations of the Voyager but is at least 45% less in price - that's a lot of money for a badge! (read more)

We bought the Kia Sedona after doing a lot of research. We had had a Chrysler Voyager on hire for a month and thought that that was the car for us (the grand voyager that is), but then we saw and test drove the Sedona and thought, why pay an extra £10k for basically the same car? We were proved right. The sedona is a comfortable and roomy car, plenty of space and a fair size boot for everyday uses. It runs well and we have had it for a year now with absolutely no problems with it... (read more)

Overall, The Kia Sedona is a good van for the money. I haven't had any engine mechanical problems as of yet. Does seem to get less gas mileage than my chevy lumina van. I just hope this door handle thing isn't going to happen all of the time. (read more)

We have had a Sedona for 2 years (W Plate) we also have the same problem with the door handles.
Our dealer in Bognor never fulfield their promise to replace them UG. Now both handles on the sliding doors are broken. We find this quite disapointing. My other comment would be is the gear links tend to rattle. Apart from the above it is a nice car, shame about our dealer! Intend to change mine this year and am looking at the hyundai, its sister.

Also got W 2000 Sedona SX, Drivers door handle broke last month. Also had to get rocker cover gasket replaced (oil leak), this is no mean feat, injectors had to be removed with sliding hammer, one had to be replaced, took about 4 hours.
Apart from that it's been great, would buy another.
