Good Points: A fantastic book that deserves all the praise it recieves. It is a modern classic.
Bad Points: It describes strong feeling over the church, and think it should be less opiniated if impressionable children are going to read it.
General comments: His Dark Materials is a book so complex, and described in such detail, you have no doubt in your mind about any scene or anyone's personality. It has clear relationships of friendships, love and hate throughout the book, as well as less clear relationships, such as between Mrs. Coulter and Lord Asriel.
The book is a rollercoaster of twists and turns, with surprises around every corner, pulled together beautifully with Phillip Pullman's descriptive writing. The way he uses word makes even the strangest events seem familiar, as if you were Lyra or Will. I would definately reccommend it to you, as it is probably the best book you will get a chance to read.
