I have been trying for months to get a paper statement from Tesco as I cannot access my account on line. They changed the online access procedure and to get on to the new method you need to get a code sent to your mobile. But they have my old mobile number which I cannot change unless I get access to my account. Catch 22. “Very Rude Customer Advisors”

I went online to order a tesco credit card to set up a balnce tranfer from my new card to my old card. “Tesco Hike their interest rates”

"Every little helps" and that is exactly what they are doing with their interest rates. Had a card since they first came out, never missed a payment, don't use it that often and low & behold, they try and steal money by increasing their interest rates! Cancelled the card and will also cancel shopping there, do likewise and tell these people what they can do & where they can go with blatent profiteering! (read more)

Now we are not people who have allowed ourselves to get into debt, apart from a reasonable mortgage. However, when we applied for this credit card we were given an extremely ungenerous £400 credit limit for two people ... despite being very careful it is easy to go over this limit. “Unfairly blocked card for 'security reasons' ”

but this is not the real problem. I can understand (possibly) that it was a higher than usual transaction, but under £1000, and way below the limit / available credit on my card. However, I had taken ages to put together an online purchase of many items when the card 'bounced'. I got the text msg and called Tesco/RBS - but there was 'noone available until tomorrow morning sir, they go home at 8pm'!!! Tesco locked my credit card for security reasons. I guess it's because I used it twice on same evening to book send it now. I rang them and had to give up after 10 mins. I tried them again and it took 17 minutes to get through - not good. “Beware of TESCO Balance Transfer Trap”

I have had a Tesco credit card for years, It has earned my wife and I flights to Budapest & Nice and many 4 x value meal vouchers. So what is my problem? We chose to make payments by faster payment (this was a contradiction in terms!!) The sort code and account number to make payments to are right at the bottom of the second page of the statement, in minute writing that you need a magnifying glass to read. Some payments went through ok but on 2 occasions the payment was returned and we were unaware until our next bank statement arrived, showing the payment go out and come back in again. I thought that getting Tesco Credit would be a great option given I shop there and the interest rate was low. How wrong could I be?!? Calls to Customer Services took too long and were no help. Hands up I didn't have enough in my account to make a payment I accept that and the fees charged what I find hard to take is that they included that amount in the next statement but had subsequently requested it and had been paid therefore given it was more than double was refused again and more fees were applied. Tesco credit cards formerly RBS card services are quite simply extortionists and liars that will squeeze you for every last penny they can. I discovered to my great anger the treatment my other half experienced at the hands of Tesco Bank. Avoid. Bad card, bad customer service. I had the card for over 13yrs never needed to ring them but recently my experience is, They will do what they can to avoid giving you MasterCard cover when you need it. “Faster Payment”

How come that when i pay an additional payment on my card it takes ages to clear. It comes up on my Tesco online payment as Faster Payment recieved clears my balcance but doesnt show as actual cleared funds for up to 5 days. I know Tesco recently changed sort code and account number as I got a letter about it a few months ago. You sure you are not using the old ones? When I pay via Faster Payment from my RBS Account it always seems to go on after about an hour or so.

I have also found this. It leaves my bank within 2 hours but takes a week to arrive at tesco - result - blocked card and left without means to pay having filled up with petrol. How can they do this? Outrageous. They should be banned from running financial services.

“dont try calling”

Credit card is fine unless you wish to raise any issue. staff unhelpful when they eventually answer the telephone. The call waiting message does repatedly tell you how much the staff do wish to speak to you?? I have had the card for a couple of years and no issues until I have tried to call them twice over the last two days. The call has never been answered within 10 mins on both occasions. Yet is is costing me between 12p and 15p per minute. Appauling way to treat customers. (read more)

We have had a Tesco Visa Credit card for some years now and never had any problem with them. It seemed to be easy to set up (although memory a bit vague), and once you get into a routine of statement date-payment date there really is no complication with it. Plus we manage to add a significant amount to our bounty of Clubcard points every month. Never had any problems with late payments etc and we pay off in full every month. But as you have said, they have locked your card a couple of times.. Now consider that they do this just before you put £100 fuel in your car, the card is declined and you can't contact customer services as you get a recorded voice saying to call during office hours. Ahhhh! Not so good then is it!

No issue with their decision to lock my card, but unlocking my card was anything but quick.

1st call: half an hour call waiting hearing "how much they wanted to speak to me", then, when I thought I was through to someone the line just went silent and I had to hang up.

2nd call: on hold for 20 minutes - then was told the department is no longer open and I should call the next day.

I asked whether there was anything unusual going on or whether the call wait times were typical. The operative seemed to think it was business as usual.

We cancelled our joint credit card over 2 weeks ago when my husband lost his wallet. we had to put in writing that we wanted replacement cards and are still waiting for them more than 2 weeks later! Despite two lenghty phone calls last week to cancel Tesco Visa card because my extra card held by my son had been eaten up when he tried to use it in Dublin, no further on. I failed my security test by now knowing exactly my credit limit and giving my mother's married name instead of maiden name,(which I corrected) one can get confused when you are left holding on! My son who reported the matter immediately was told I was the only one who could cancel the card.After my two bad mannered calls I asked Tesco to cancel my cards and send me a balancing statement to clear the account. What a complete and utter waste of time I have had with this crowd at Tesco Bank. I am a professional, I earn in excess of 60k pa and I have a Barclaycard with a 7k limit. I applied for a Tesco card as want to do a balance transfer of 3k, only to be issued a card with a £400 credit limit.Tesco won't budge, so it has been an utter waste of my time. “22 months of freedom”

I've just found the Tesco Club Card Credit Card on a comparison website with 22 months on balances transferred! At only 1 month less than the Barclay Card I currently have this is great (because you can't get 2 card from the same bank) so it will end up cut what I would be paying in interest by about £50 per month - it also come with extra clubcard points which I can then use to get goodies for the family. I asked why by letter which was not replied to and by telephone, in which I was told that it couldn't be disclosed but I should check my credit rating. I've either been lucky with this card so far, or I use it differently from most other people. I've had it for 3 months and I don't really keep a balance on it. I don't rely on direct debits and I haven't had to call customer services yet. So far it's been great. Clubcard points for nothing really as I just use the card to buy things and then make an online payment to it from my bank account. Just got a 16 month Tesco card and I'm very happy with the product - it's basically a win/win for me. I get to use the card to fix up the house, but I'll also earn clubcard points on everything I spend - great! One thing I would say is that the application progress is a little hard work. “Aviod it unless you'd alaways stay within the credit limit”

Tesco seems to be very keen when it comes to applying default charges for going over the credit limit like all the other financial companiese e.g. a £12 default charge is applied on the account on 6th of the month where once has gone over the credit limit by even £1. So anytime within a month you go over the credit limit expect a default charge letter on or after 6th of the month. (read more)

Not to be flippant but a credit limit is there for a reason and not to be exceeded which is why it is called a 'limit'. Those are the terms you signed up for and agreed to when you put your x down. So if you go over even by 1p that's your fault not Tesco Bank.

“Terrible Customer Service ”

Because of the nat west, rbs bank error in May two payments for the same amount were paid from my rbs account into my mastercard. I requested that one of the payments be refunded back to my bank account. Unfortunately now because Tesco have showed the repayment as a payment from my card and not an adjustment we have now gone over the credit limit even though the amount we owe is less than this limit. AVOID TESCO CREDIT CARD they have a transaction limit of 10 per day before they suspend your account, so if my wife uses it 5 times and me 5 times you get that moment at the till where they say in front of everyone YOUR CARD HAS BEEN DECLINED have you got another one. but you have noway of knowing when you reach 10, other than by phoning the wife and saying how many have you made, you could spend 10 transactions at £1 and get suspended, but spend 9 at £1000 each and they wont suspend your... Had this card for about a year. Been paying by a regular direct debit on the same day of every month. No problems. Then last month without warning the payment date was moved later by Tesco by 6 days which meant the direct debit did not come out on the usual day. Then they charged me a £12 late payment fee. Had the same experience, like you I was not very pleased. The fact is, Tesco Clubcard Credit Card is run by a load of clowns who haven't got the first idea about customer service.
They are completly useless and worth avoiding unless you really want the Tesco Clubcard Points.

“Card Declined, tele-support lines and logons do NOT work”

Card declined in a restaurant with no warning and there was no way to get to their customer support all the telephone numbers advertised came up as not working at this time. Internet site was down as well so couldn't check my balance. Could have been worse (but not much) I could have been abroad. Exactly the same thing for us. 2 times declined... eventually (15 minutes) got to speak to somebody, 100% guarantee that things would be sorted out by today by 13:00hrs and guess what ... declined again. Want a new credit card :(

I'm in the US on holiday. I use my Tesco card for everything and don't carry much cash. I've spent an hour on the phone to Tesco over the past couple of days because the card is declined at every transaction. They initially said that it was a problem with one merchant's terminal but now say that it is a known system problem at their end. However, they're offering me no assistance whatsoever which I find unbelievable. I have a Tesco Finest (Platinum) card with over £10k of credit and have had this for many years. Needless to say I'm not going to be staying with these clowns and as soon as I get back to the UK. Fortunately I'd paid for my accommodation in advance; otherwise I've no idea how I'd be able to get out of this situation but Tesco don't give a stuff.

Where do I start. By telling you to avoid at all costs. I applied for this card purely to get the Tesco points, got a pathetic £250 limit (all other cards are around the £2000 limit). “Payment taken twice”

Seems there are system problems at Tesco Central. I make my payment using their automated phone system and this month they took one payment but also authorised another. That means that even though the second one won't be debited my bank won't allow the 'reserved' funds to be used, meaning that I can't withdraw cash and I run the risk of direct debits being returned despite there being enough funds in the account. I've had this credit card for just over 3 months now. So far it has been like every other credit card I have had. No problems at all. Then again I pay it in full every month, and use it wisely. Credit limit that small is to catch people in trap to make them pay 12L fee- so they could earn money for extra tesco points they spend on you and for all people in bank they employ. Of course it's you that need to check credit balance every day to know how much of this 400L you have left...

Never had any problems. Great getting the points which are then turned into rewards including clothes, cinema tickets etc. I pay my balance off each month online and it's always easy. Check balance online whenever I like too. Read on Moneysavingexpert that rather than use your current account if you use credit card and pay off each month your credit score will go up. Think the only charges I ever got were a few pounds when I used it abroad. A little annoying but probably standard practice... (read more)

“Terrible customer service”

Called 'Customer Services' as I had a disputed transaction with a taxi company charging more than was agreed over the phone. Spoke to two people at Tesco who couldn't offer any help. Although Tesco offer a long interest free period and give extra Clubcard points I have found their customer service to be truly shocking for a credit card provider and will not be using the card again if they cannot offer any level of protection when something goes wrong. Avoid at all cost. I used the credit card in 2006 to make a payment for a mortage set up fee. Having made regular payments. I like many other people made a few late payments only missing the payment date by 2-3 days. Whilst recently trying setting up an increase on our current mortgage, for a home extension the application was refused due to a problem with my credit score rating. “This card is dangerous!!!! Tesco clubcard credit card”

Hi all, be warned this card is no good. Tesco club card credit can destroy your credit limit without you even knowing. I am an Avid user of credit cards and use their promotional periods. When i first applied for this credit card i was declined, the csr over the phone gives you no reason why this is the case,when i called a number of times why this had been decline i got many different answers however knowing i am a good user with an excellent credit file i appealed the application.... “Card experience with Tesco”

Card usage is OK. Just don't try to pay what's due online. Transaction goes fine until you reach Visa Verify, when Tesco and Visa do not talk to each other and it all falls apart. Customer service don't want to know and blame the Visa issuing bank. Meanwhile I book holidays and pay off other credit cards without difficulty. Tesco's software at this point is poor. (read more)
