Good Points: Comedy all the way
General comments: I would highly recommend The Toon: A Complete History of Newcastle United Football Club. The book is a good guide to the rare 'ups' and many 'downs' that this underachieving club have achieved over the years. The author does a good job with the material and I enjoyed his witty writing style, the book is also very comprehensive and goes all the way back to 1892 when Newcastle United was formed, to the present day where the club is captained by Mary Poppins aka Alan Shearer. As ever this book buys into the myth that Newcastle fans are 'the best supporters in the country' despite failing to explain the pitiful attendances (below 10,000 fans) that the club endured in the 80's. However that's all part of Newcastle's charm and simply adds to the comedy value of this wannabe big club. The book could do with more pictures but apart from that it provided me with a good read and plenty of laughs. Ten out of ten for comedy value alone.
