holds up to anything I throw at it. I've proably biked thousands of miles on that thing. The paint hardly ever scratches and it's all around a great bike. The gear changes are a little bit shaky esspecially 2-1 on the right side, and the tires suck for what I put it through too soft of a compound. But don't let me disscorage you from buying this bike, It's great. (read more)

I changed my mongoose 250 for a hardrock and it was one of my best moves ever! it's like giving away a kia for a mercedes. It's fun, easy, durable, everything u want for leisure and commuting. It feels like a part of your body. From the very first moment u feel comfortable and sure to do what u want. Definitely recommend it (read more)

bought the 2011 hardrock sport disc,(hot uk deals £370.00) and its a massive improvement on anything else ive ever ridden, but it didnt take long before i wanted to upgrade things on it. the forks are pretty naff, i ride xc mainly and drop offs larger that 5 inches and rocky sections are pretty scary with only 80mm of travel to hide behind, yes the tyres are great on roads but not on muddy rocky trails. to be fair this bike is marketed as a commuter/trail bike and on the road its ok,... i just tried out this bike, and it's absolutly amazing,
on the road aswell as off road, unfortunatly i only rented it, but looking forward to purchase,
i took it climbing and downhilling on some very nasty terrain and the bike kept up his end of the bargain, changing gears (even with dirt) is allmost flawless and it's very fast (and light) on asphalt to overall a great bike i can reccomand to anyone

Great starter bike. I have had for 2 years. Crank and chainrings could be better as they bend with powerful climbing. Frontfork is great. Sun tour. Cassette and chain both changed within 6 months. Front and rear deraillers are good for street ridinig, but not appropriate for Mountain biking.
Great for the price. Could upgrade, but will sell and get a better lighter frame after 3 years of riding. Happy overall.

Has something happened to Specialized's wheel makers? I used to have a 2000 Hardrock and used it for commuting around London for 7 years. The wheels just kept on turning - till the rims wore out simply from braking. That was OK - I'd got more than 10,000 miles out of them. My son also has an older Hardrock and hammers it round a mountain bike course every weekend, again without any problems.
Recently I got a new Hardrock - the 09 pro disk model with Alex Rims. Within four months the rear...

The Specialised Hardrock mountain bike is a great bike for the money would defo recommend. Comes with suntour Forks which are surprisingly good. An over all great bike which you can upgrade easily even comes with a proper threadless headset, so no messing about when changing stem / forks. Specialized bikes are a high standard and you're mainly paying for the frame, which will last you for ages. Also if you look online you can always find the previous yr model for a bargain. The frame is so good that it's worth buying this bike and upgrading the weak point. Mine has Rock Shox Tora 318 forks and handles really well thanks to this upgrade. This is a great all around bike. I've been using this bike off the rack and it has served me well on both urban and trail rides. It can handle around 2-ft jumps. After looking around for a couple of months at most of the other brands, and wanting a bike within my pretty limited budget, meant that picking this up for £249 (as it had £50 off the rrp) I am well pleased. I took it up to my local mountain biking circuit the next day and was amazed how it handles the decents, climbs and drop offs. The only gripe I have is that I'm going to have to put a strip of outdoor sellotape on the top tube as I recon the cable is going to rub away the lovely finish... (read more)

Bought this just over a year ago, a Specialized Hard Rock Sport 07 (the distressed army look). I should have bought a dirt jump bike instead, but the HR Sport handles everything okay.
The only issue I've had were the crappy metal stock pedals which I have swaped for sealed bearings platform FPDs which hold my foot in place a lot better when I jump.
I bought this because I liked the look of it and I'm told the frame (alloy) is one of the best in the industry, beating hands down more expensive...

I purchased my Hard Rock specialized in 2001 and use it strictly with road tires on pavement for my workouts. I'm 62 years old and weigh 175lbs and typically bike between 60-100 miles per week. In that time period I have had the frame brake twice, one of the cranks broke, both wheels had to be replaced. Of course I expect things like the chain, pedals and the de-railer to fail during that period of time but certainly not the frame. The only things that haven't failed were the de-railer... I bought my Specialized Hardrock 18 months ago and it has been brilliant, it handles anything I can throw at it. it is great out on the trails, it grips and stops very well and it is good for going round town too. It has taken a few big crashes but it refuses to break. I have buckled the rear wheel once through misjudging when to jump up kerbs but that is mainly my fault. Overall it is a great bike and I would recommend it to anyone. (read more)
