Good Points: The dryer works well now that it has been repaired. This is a basic model with few controls. The dryer utilizes a sensor to detect moisture and shuts down automatically when the clothes are dry.

Bad Points: The dryer quit working two days after purchase.

General comments: Two days after purchasing the GE DVL223EBIWW dryer (4/28/02), the unit failed. The dryer would not start. I called the GE-CARES repair line for service. The service representative wanted to schedule an appointment the following week, Thursday, 5/9/02. This was nine days later and an unacceptable time frame to repair a brand new appliance. I attempted to appeal the extended repair time and asked to speak to a supervisor. To my amazement, I ended up in a revolving door of phone calls totalling over two hours (it was really closer to three hours but no one would believe it!). I discovered that when you call the GE-CARES number for service you are actually calling, East India (really, ask them the next time you call). I became very frustrated! There was a communication barrier in that the service representatives do not speak English very well and it seemed that I was not getting my point across. After much dialog with numerous people I finally gave up. I know that is just what GE wants is for me to give up, but I did. I called a local appliance repair company, who is an authorized GE repair company, and scheduled the repairs for the following morning. The repairs involved an open circuit at the belt switch and took only minutes to fix. The bill totaled $84.95. The dryer cost approximately $269.00 for a basic model along with the repair costs equal $359.00. Again, I called GE to see if they would cover the costs, after all, I used an authorized GE repair facility. GE declined the request. I should have been wiser and not a miser. GE-DOES NOT CARE. I will know better next time!
