Fantasic rifle for starting out and getting a feel for the sport.
I have the custom version which for £36, for the complete gun, has a much better stock than the standard. My whole family use it and we have loads of fun plinking in the back yard. The only draw back is the lack of a safety catch so you just have to be sensible when loading.
I cannot recomend this gun enough, sure there are better guns out there with better features but with much higher price tags. I waited ages before I... (read more)

this SMK B2.177 rifle is rubbish. ok it was only £30 but the finish is terrible and the trigger is really stiff its difficult to shoot consistantly with the thing.
it is not powerfull prob bout 8 ft/lbs if your lucky.
it is ok at 20 yards hitting tin cans but thats about all its ok for. trouble is cause the trigger is so bad my young sons seem to have got disheartened with it and prefer to use my xs19 which is a big improvement and deff worth paying the extra for. (read more)

I got this SMK B2.177 gun just b4 last xmas. I used it on xmas and boxing day in my uncles back garden with my dad, grandad, uncle and cousin. we had a great time shooting tagets. This gun is great for plinking in the back garden. It decimated beer bottles, beer cans and aerosol cans. If people want a more accurate better finished gun, then buy a more upmarket 1. If u want to shoot stuff and have a laff then buy this. For the price it's fantastic value 4 money. (read more)

The SMK B2.177 is accurate when fitted with a 4x20 can hit unwanted christmas decorations from about 20 yards, the only bad points really are the bad finish on the stock and the heavy trigger. but this rifle is very good for the money . great for plinking! Had this rifle for many years and dropped many birds from 30-40 yards away. It was very accurate and pellet power in .22 was good enough to drop a pigeon up to 80 yards away, of course with a rainbow shot. I preferred this rifle to all .177(4.5mm) rifles I owned before. (read more)

An impulse buy...when I opened the box I was horrified by the appalling finish. The stock was quite unspeakable. The steel parts are roughly, though accurately, machined, leaving plenty of sharp edges in some places. But the steel is surprisingly well-blued. It dieselled like mad at first and I couldn't hit a barn door with it. The trigger was extremely heavy, which didn't help. So I stripped the stock, reshaped it with a rasp, filled in the cracks and knot-holes, then stained it and oiled... (read more)

The custom stock is worth the extra tenner but not much more. It would simply not be worth the 50 quid some places are charging for it. The wood looks good however the chequered patterns leave a lot to be desired for as the paint on them isn't great.

And make up your own mind.

The SMK B2 was my first air rifle, and i don't see myself getting another one. It's brilliant! I got a 4x32 scope which helps with the aiming, but iron sights that are already on the gun are as accurate as you like. Powerful enough to smash straight through tins and cans at 30 yard without even moving them. I found to my pleasure that it is powerful enough to punch a hefts hole in a crows head, killing it almost instantly. Great gun and very cheap! (read more)

The B2-1 .177 I bought come rather useless straight out of the box. The internals were all coated with black paint, no grease was evident anywhere and the oil used dieseled when the gun was fired. The trigger is extremely heavy and it produced 10cm groups at 10m because of all this, when used straight out of the box. The factory sights are rubbish so ensure the model purchased includes scope rails as the addition of a scope or red-dot sight is a must for this gun, if you intend to shoot... (read more)

This is a cheap, no frills air rifle. It is great for back yard target practice, and it's good for about 20 yards, but what do you expect at that price? I bought the SMK B2. 177 4 years ago for around £25. I recently recieved my .177 b2 rifle and today was the first time I used it. I wasn't keen on the finish of the stock but I found it a comfortable rifle to fire. I did like the break action of the rifle (push down lock lever to release the barrel, cock by pulling barrel down, load and snap barrel back into place). I can't really comment on the accuracy as it's the first time I have used one (it may have been me), I have a 4x15 sight on mine and from about 50m I was hitting approx 2-3 inchs... (read more)

Had the pleasure of plinking with one of these SMK B2.177's recently. The B2's stock is horrible and there is no butt plate whatsoever, but once you get over this, it's amazing value for money. The pellets pierced straight through a Coke can at 10 meters and from a sitting position with both elbows rested, I could get a 1.5" - 2" group. The B2's main problem is the heavy trigger pull. This seriously affects the accuracy and blights the shooting experience. It also make me cautious about... (read more)

My scores are based on the SMK B2.177 I owned, which was not great, so I must conclude that SMK guns are of massively variable quality, given the good reviews some people have written on here.
Okay, this is a £25 gun and can't really be compared with those from Air Arms, Weihrauch et al - if it was to compared to these top marques even a good example would probably be lucky to score zero in the overall rating.

I got my SMK B2.177 last month and am very happy with it. The gun points really well for me and is accurate (0.7inch at 10m with Gamo Match). It is not too fuzzy about it's diet neither with most groups under 1.5 inches at 10m but as expected, the point of aim shifts when you switch pellet brands. The biggest problem is the trigger at a rotten 14lbs and I first throught my gun wasn't working. One of these days I will have to polish the sear.

Although I have put a lot of bad points I think it's because my SMK B2.177 is fairly new and still wearing in. SMK B2.177 - I've never owned an air rifle before, but its something I wanted to get into, so instead of buying a very expensive gun, I opted for this one after seeing reviews for it. I hope this review is helpful, I've tried to be as unbiased and objective as possible.

Right, another review on budget guns, I recently bought the SMK B2.177 gun as I thought it was good from all of the reviews I have read, cost me £15 (second hand) with simmons 1088 4x20 scope and some SMK round head pellets. I have to say the round head standard pellets do not fit all that well in the barrel so I bought some bisely practice ones, which slotted in nice and snug and performed somewhat better as they were lighter. I received my SMK B2.177 today in the post, with a tin of Milbro Caledonian pellets, as my first air rifle and I have to say I'm very impressed. At £28.80 I wasn't expecting much at all, but the performance of this gun is amazing.
The gun itself doesn't look anything special. The finish on this rifle is not very nice at all compared to the more expensive air rifles you can buy, but it's not ghastly. It has a 'rough n' ready' look to it.
