I have an overdraft with Nationwide which was maxed out completely, I had charges building up from bounced direct debits and was generally not running the account very well. I then lost my job and became incredibly stressed about my financial situation and envisaged being taken to court for not being able to pay off my overdraft and subsequent charges. I made an appointment to see an adviser at my nearest branch - Bank Plain, Norwich and was amazed at how helpful and supportive the chap was.... (read more)

The service in this bank is ok overall, once you finally get it! I used 3 different branches at various times of day and all had the same problem. Up to 8 service counters and youre lucky to get 1 or 2 people serving. What is the point of having all that space when you have the bare minimum staff you may as well set up a bank in a shed. After this happening every visit I got fed up of standing waiting for the 1 member of staff to get rid of the old bloke counting out his pennies and left... (read more)

I am now at my 7th or 8th week, and to be honest, I have now got to point where I am at first name terms with the nationwide colleagues, I feel that I have made all the running about, when I first rang up about an extra little money I assumed that as I have paid £100 “administration charge” that most if not all the running about would be done by the building society, but no, I have never had a letter, e-mail or phone call off them saying either everything was ok or in most cases not ok!... However, when they applied bank charges to my account in error I was bounced from pillar to post trying to sort it out. In the end, I sent an email to their CEO asking him to get it resolved. I also let him know that I am aware all financial institutions are required to record their calls by law and provided him with the dates and times I had contacted... (read more)

I moved from Lloyds several years ago and I'm still happy with Nationwide. Internet banking is easy and they are not sneaky when it comes to interest rates for existing users. I also like that they don't have an Internet banking arm. Shame they changed their policy on not charging for foreign ATM withdrawals - however in a lot of countries I visit they are still free. I've recently had a lot of trouble concerning my account. I had my money withdrawn without my knowledge, and only realised when I received my statement. Naturally I was very upset, so I went to the branch close to work, to query what had happened. I was hoping it was a misprint, but sadly this was not the case. It turned out this was a case of fraudulent activity. I filled out forms to launch an enquiry, and was told I would hear from them as soon as they found anything out.
I waited two...
