I rented a car for 8 days from Catania airport. I was somewhat hesitant having read several bad reviews about Locauto. They did indicate on the website that it would be a Golf or similar vehicle, I got a FIAT Trekking. The car had several areas of very minor damage, but I was told that this was going to be it's last rental. As a result I could pre-pay the full tank at €1 per litre and return empty which was a bargain. The car itself was clean, roomy and ran well. There was no queue at the desk on arrival at 20.00 and I was dealt with within 10 minutes on my return. Overall I had no problems and found all the staff professional and efficient. Would use again.

I have now hired a car from this company four times in four different Italian airports and I have never had a problem with them. They are invariably the cheapest and they offer things like free second drivers which is great. A few tips: 1) Get excess insurance from a third party before you arrive. It is MUCH cheaper than the the cover they offer. You will have to fill in a form when you get home if you need to claim but it should be straightforward. 2)Dont expect the queues to move quickly. This is Italy and you've chosen the cheapest option 3) Be honest with them. If you've pranged the car, tell them - it will be much easier to sort out. 4) If you need to make a claim from your insurer, you will need an invoice. Locauto wont give this to you when you drop the car off but they do put it on their website. Login with your contract number to get your documents.

We were given a free upgrade from the clio/uno/fiesta sized car that I had reserved to a Golf. It was the perfect car for our itinerary which included visiting mountainous areas around lake Como with narrow roads and bashing on down the autostrada to Florence and returning to Milan via Lucca and La Spezia crusing at the legal limit of 130Km/h. Service at pick up was good and at drop off even better. The car was very clean and full of fuel at pick up enabling us to set off immediately unlike some previous experiences where the first task has been to locate a filling station whilst the fuel gauge hovers worryingly below zero. I will certainly use this company again.

i rented a car in venice and was trvelling to the dolomites, on my way back i hit a deer and damaged the car, (the deer got up and ran off). I reported the damage to the girl in the airport she was very helpful and genuinley concerened Two weeks later i got an email to say my deposit had been returned and they had assesed the damage at 600 euro which i thought was very fair for the damage. They took this from my bank account. I found them very fair and professional in the way they dealt with my mishap. I would certainly use them again.

Was good service, from Locauto. After reading this and other reviews I was very worried, but othrr car hire firms from Rome airport had equally bad reviews so we decided to go with Locauto and buy the extra excess cover in case we did get charged for anything extra. We just went with the attitude that it might be a nightmare, but we were pleasantly surprised. There was no long line at the desk, we got our car after about 15 minutes, yes the insurance was the basic insurance, but we just went for that and didn't pay any extra. We got a brand new Fiat Panda, with not a scratch on it and very clean, on return the handover was equally as smooth. The only issues we had were down to the airport. It was quite hard finding the rental desk in Rome airport, there could do with being some signs, but we asked someone on at an information desk who pointed us the right way. The other issue was with trying to fill it up with petrol to take it back, there were several petrol stations very close to the airport, but it was a Sunday, so the kiosks were closed, there were prepay machines which only took cash. We only had 30 euros left which was not enough to fill it. We thought we were going to have to face the charges for not taking it back full, but fortunately on driving a little more we found one that took cards, so we were saved. Like previous reviews have said they do block 1,000 euros on your credit card for the excess. This was refunded within a couple of days after handing the car back.

On holiday in Sardinia we rented a car from Locauto for 8 days from 18 of May till 26 of May at the Airport in Cagliary. As I've read many bad reviews about this company, I was wery afraid that it might be true. But everything was perfect. We rented a car with extra insurance to have no headache. The car was quite new ( Skoda Yeti)and this allowed us to travel and enjoy the island without any trouble. Thanks lady at the desk who was realy nice and professional. Vida and Rūta

I rented a car from Trieste in Italy for 8 days. I was worried after reading all the negative reviews on here. And even rang up to see what the cancellation fee was so I could change to a more well known company like Hertz or Europcar. But then I looked at Hertz and Europcar reviews on Review Centre and they were just as bad! I think people are probably more vocal about the negative experience, which they should be. And maybe the positive experiences do not write as often. I am not disputing any of the negative reviews on here, but other companies have similar reviews also. I was half expecting a band of pirates in Trieste but they were in a line of kiosks just like Sixt, Hertz, Europcar and a few others. The lady was helpful, the car was a bit scratched on the outside here an there, but the scratches were recorded, and the car was very nice. It was a Peugeot 507. I just said to myself if I have a good experience I would come back and leave a review. They took a 1000 Euro or so block on my credit car which is probably normal, which made me a little uneasy, but they took it off as soon as we had a joint visual inspection at the end of the hire period. They then sign it off and you can be sure no nasty surprises will follow on later.

Rent ed a CAR online and ended up being given Locauto Cagliari . Honestly all nice and smooth nice car up to our expectations we went for a no excess pack. No problem or hidden fees as we were afraid of. rebooked for September. P.s. The care came with a free built in sat nav which came very handy finding our way around Cagliari

As we rented with 0 excess, nobody looked for any scratches and everything was fine. Of course, it is a matter of precaution and success whether you cause any damage to the windowsand other things that are not covered by 0 excess... We were lucky :) The only matter that the first car we received was with some engine problem (panel light indicated that), still, the car was immediately switched to another one which was running well all our 10-day trip. Drop-off smooth and quick. All signatures were put by the staff on our copy of agreement. Do not save on 0 excess and you shall not suffer fines for scrathces ;)
