Over 3 weeks now to facilitate a washing machine repair. 1 week for the guy to visit, he didn't carry parts so had to order them(another week)despite the fact I can order them online for next day delivery. 1 out of 5 stars wouldn't give them that but you have to give them at least one grrrrr. Have been waiting nearly 3 WEEKS for a repair on our washing machine they have left us with 4 children having to waste a lot of money at the launderette which isn't near us and it's still not fixed. The only reason I've given them one star is because you have to tick one box to leave a review Avoid these RIP OFF merchants like the plague. I have a family of 5 to wash for, including a disabled person who has incontinence. I have paid them for several years, first one policy then they ring to sell you some more and I ended up going through every appliance in my house with the salesman with him pressing me to accept "a great deal" on insuring everything that wasnt too old. The oven which is 13 months old has failed phoned them up to be told it would take 2 weeks to get someone out they arrived to be told they don't carry the part required and they would have to order one but it takes 7 days I have phoned them again today to say the part should be here by Friday at that point the engineer will phone to arrange to fix it So three weeks on I still haven't got a working oven or grill avoid these people at all costs… Read Full Review

“disgusting”

I purchased a mixer from argos. I took out an extended guarentee.My mixer, a kenwood has broken down twice, the first time they used a reasonable company the second time they sent it for repair, it was sent to a repair company that has the most disgusting, unhelpful people. when asked what the prognosis was, I was told they dont know. “Hotpoint washing machine repair farce”

We have had a Domestic And General policy on our 2007 hotpoint washing machine for some years. The cost is £123.48 pa. The machine has served us well but broke down three weeks ago. Despite three visits by engineers claiming to have fixed it, it remains broken with the same fault and we have yet another engineer visiting on Tuesday. Sorry to hear of your issues with d & g, I have also been unfortunate with this rip off company, the have had possession of my pc tower for 1half months only to my frustration now deliver it back to me with the same fault.. On top of this the y have broken the ejector button. I have been abused on the phone by the "engineer sam", told that I broke the button myself, & that I should make a fresh claim with d & g. d&g do not listen to their clients nor show any kind of common sense or empathy, I have been so frustrated with their lack of care, I have now cancelled all policies with this greedy, incompetent 'company', give it time they will be forced out of business.

I can not strongly enough advise anyone to NOT use Domestic & General. The service they offer I would not wish on my worst enemy. We insured a Fridge Freezer with D&G. A noisy fan had to be replaced, easy you would think. The engineer contracted to D&G destroyed the Fridge Freezer and D&G did not want to know. I have had D&G plan for 5+years. This year they increased the fee significantly and I did not receive a renewal notice. I noticed it reviewing my bank statement but 2 month fees had been collected. I called customer service and while they have cancelled it going forward as I am not happy with price, they have not refunded 2 months fee collected. “Delivery Charge ”

My dishwasher died this week...never mind I have insurance with Domestic and General. Paid over 10 years without making any previous claims so the company have had a good customer in me! My microwave packed-In a few weeks ago and I called D and G. They gave me the repairer's details, I contacted them and they phoned next day to say the part needed was not available and they were going to write it off, which they did. D and G called that day and offered a replacement from AO but my wife wanted a different one as the one offered was white. It is a black one we want and they said no probs, just choose up to the value of £179. We chose one at £149.99 and they waived their delivery charge of £6.00 as we were under the £179. It was delivered by DHL next day. I cannot fault them and we now have an all sing and dance new machine which is far better than the one we had. Each person has different stories to tell but this is mine and I have no complaint at all.

That's lovely to hear! Since posting I have received a lovely letter from D & G stating that they are upholding my complaint as I was wrongly advised and charged by an advisor. I have been given compensation and the charge has been refunded. Looks as if we are both happy!

I have an ongoing issue with HOOVER CANDY who deal with the repairs for D & G under there extended warranty service. An engineer came out Wednesday and instead of fixing my washing machine it was left in a worse state then it initially was. “Absolute nightmare!”

Our cooker broke down, they have offered to repair in eleven days time, what do they expect us to do? Eat takeaways, eat out? Will they reimburse us? I don't think so! It took a considerable time to get through on the phone, very expensive 0844 number. The insurance is a waste of time I recommend DSG retail who we have our other appliances insured with and they are very reliable and quick. I won't be renewing this policy with D&G !! “Don't use this company - terrible service - waste of money”

After 3 visits and weeks without a washing machine they eventually agreed to replace it. Charged me £140 for delivery, installation and removal of old machine. Took the money but didn't install or remove. Left with two machines in a 1 bedroom flat neither of which I could use! They refused to call back so had to get the old machine out of the flat and pay the local authority to remove it plus pay for installation. They agreed a nominal refund but I'm well out of pocket. They can't cancel the policy, did they replace your machine. You should have gone to trading standards. Just because they write in the policy that they can cancel it does not mean they actually can. They can write whatever they like into these policies, but if it's not reasonable they can't enforce it, it's where your statutory rights come into play. Look at your policy again, call citizens advice and get yourself a new washing machine good luck

They have the right to cancel a policy ans the replacement appliance is in guarantee and they will only cover for accidental damage in the first year.
