Having read a fair number of the recent reviews on this site, the comments are all too familiar regarding the poor service from D&G. My experiences are similar so I wont repeat it here. D&G will ring me any day now to ask if I would like to renew the policy one of my policies so it will be time to make a decision. I think the best plan for me will be to open a deposit savings account with my bank and every year put what would be all of my D&G payments. when i bought my hotpoint washing machine 3 years ago domestic and genral sent me a letter asking me if i wanted to take out a protection plan at £76 a year on paper they sound perfect very reliable i paid the insurance for 3 years but after reading all the bad reviews and trust me everyones bad ive just cancelled my protection plan… Read Full Review

Washing machine unrepairable so we waited for them to agree a replacement spoke to 3 very unhelpful people who are lacking any customer relation skills. “Christmas oven nightmare”

2pm Christmas Eve, we switched our hotpoint oven on and it tripped the electric. We rang d and g, and a message came up that the office was closed! According to our policy they were open 365 days a year. We had the same problem at the being of December and an engineer had come out 5 days later and replaced the element, so we surprised that the replacement had lasted for such a short time, especially as we only use the oven a couple of times a week. “Do not accept their 1st replacement appliance offer”

Basically domestic and general have been taken over by a new company last year and they are going to boost profits and then sell the business on. One way to boost profits is to reduce the amount the company is paying out on replacement appliances. I am in the middle of getting a replacement tv, it is meant to be like for like in terms of specification. “fridge freezer”

I first reported our fridge freezer out of action on the 4th of December.The next day I was contacted by a local repair firm that gave me a repair date for a week 12th of dec. After complaining to D and G they then gave me a repair date for the 9th. Terrible company - do not take out insurance with them, they are rude, incompetent and it's a waste of money. It took them 6 weeks to finally replace my washing machine, I ended up having to take 6 days off work for visits, they said they'd only sort it if I dropped the complaint and it ended up costing me a fortune. “Useless engineer, even useless customer complaints...”

Had taken out an Oven Insurance from D&G. My first call out after paying them for a year and the engineer spent 15 minutes looking at it and expects now the tenants to clean the fan of the Oven by opening it up and cleaning the blades themselves. I have had the same policy on my whirlpool Prima oven for 10 yrs and D & G have repaired it twice. oven broke again and an engineer was booked, upon arrival was told my policy didn't cover my make of oven ! spent 2 hours on the phone trying to sort this through the laughingly called resolution line, was passed from pillar to post, was very frustrated. I took a policy out for my fridge freezer when my product broke down xmas 2015, I was left over the whole period with no fridge, as the Engineer that was sent forgot to order the part which delayed it till the new year. “USELESS AND UNPROFESSIONAL”

I would give negative or zero points if I had those options......Domestic and General insurance policies are to be avoided at any cost. My fridge freezer broke down and it took me 10 to 11 hours over 1 week on phone to get a resolution which was not to my satisfaction and guess what, THEY DO NOT CARE!! Took out a policy for a hotpoint induction hob. We paid for a 5 year Repair Plan for our washing machine in 2012. Twice we have need repairs and twice we have been through the painful customer service process whereby they said our payment plan was lapsed. We have it in black and white. l am the policy holder of a domestic and general insurance on a hot point cooker which is just over 1 year old The fan has stopped working on the oven-simple enough repair,you may think ? Very unprofessional company. Came to repair a washing machine, worked once then broke down again. Always said they would phone before they came never did. I had to get my own company to write the machine off. Cancelled the policy then they phoned to try and sell to me again. To top it all cancelled all the direct debits and they still take them.
