“Awful. Do not use. Many mistakes and extra costs. ”

While paying for a Domestic and General "like for like replacement" insurance policy on my fridge, it broke down and although it was eventually replaced, this took so much effort on my part that I would advise others to steer well clear. It would have been simpler and cheaper to just buy a new fridge. I had to make numerous phone calls and had many wasted days waiting at home for engineers and delivery men who did not turn up. “Yet again useless!”

Having been with Domestic and General for a few years now we have had a mixed service but mostly negative. From an engineer due in the afternoon that turned up in the morning and called me to say he couldn't wait long for me to get home or he could come back another day to a badly leaking dishwasher that was repaired time and time again but never properly, the engineer would leave the property and the dishwasher would breakdown on the next use. “2 days told engineer coming 2 days no engineer!!!!”

I have been told by Domestic and General would be coming out to replace the drum on my washing machine. I pay direct debit with no problems with them taking/ stealing my money. An engineer was suposed to come out Monday. No engineer and no call to let me know engineer was not attending. 1 day wasted no compensation. I have been with this company for about 4 years and have 4 items insured with them. I had to call them for the 1st time yesterday regarding my fridge freezer that was freezing up. I called at 10.30am, there was an engineer in the area luckily who arrived at 11.15am, he said the fridge freezer had a fault and couldn't be repaired, told that I would get a call regarding a replacement. “5 visits, problem not yet fixed”

I have a Hotpoint washer dryer. I rang with a noisy drum in January. An engineer came out very quickly and did a quick fix & sugested next time I would need a new drum. Since then I have had 4 more engineers out, each with their own opinion on what needs fixing. Still not done. What's worse is that the problem has got worse following each visit, so they are not only failing to fix it, but it is now so loud that I cannot put my machine on when I am in the house. “OK company”

I only recently discovered this company. I purchased a Hotpoint oven, which was smashed in transit by the courier company,TNT, who refused to pay out (small print, they don't carry white goods). At my wit's end I contacted Hotpoint, who told me that my 10 year parts did not cover this, as the damage was caused by the courier. “Deliberately in smallest print. so replacement cost...”

Like others we have had a mixed response to repairs performance but hit with the whammy when new for old put to the test after 16+ years. Full payment of years premium in year of irrepairable breakdown demanded before replacement. They tell us "insurance will be transferred to new machine" but of course they know the new machine has a 12 month guarantee. Then one must pay delivery and installation costs. So the new for old will be about 50% of the new machine paid by us before prepared to send… Read Full Review

“AVOID AVOID AVOID”

This insurance company is not worth your time or money. I would rather pay for all of my home plumbing expenses, than have to deal with them! The first time we needed to call them, a pipe on our second level had burst and we had to switch all the water off, as well as the boiler in the middle of winter. This happened about 6pm and after being transferred around, and waiting on the phone for ages we were told an emergency plumber could come out between 1-3am. “Total waste of money”

Whatever you do please don't take a plan out with domestic and general. I have an American fridge freezer and have paid over £400.00 over the last few years to Cover for breakdown. The result been I have no freezer working a warm fridge and it's been like this for nearly two weeks. “not suitable for working families”

The cover was for a dishwasher, which is only 18 months old.When it went wrong l had to contact hotpoint, this is where its not suitable. The engineers only work monday to friday 9am to 5pm. So far l have had 2 visits and still not working. It also means l have had to have 2 days off work.SO taking into account time lost from work and the cost of the policy l think it would be cheaper to buy a new one… Read Full Review

I have been a loyal customer of Donestic and General for 9 years paying £11.50 a month for my washing machine. I have only ever made three call outs during this time and on the third call out I was advised my washing machine is irreparable so I would recieve a new one. This is where the problems started! Have just had exactly the same scenario, albeit after 2 years cover and 4 months into the the 3rd year. Our time dryer us being replaced, and having been told by the sales guy on the phone and the repaired that there will be no additional costs I've been hit by a delivery charge (that's ok) and the remainder of the annual premium.

Yes, it's in the terms, however they don't state this when selling the policy (we have multiple policies with them). This is a fundamental term and should be clearly stated at the outset, it just hidden away in thrr terms.

After two visits by the engineers who were unable to repair our integrated microwave, D&G agreed to replace it. All this was done over the phone and a replacement was ordered on Friday. I bought an insurance for a Hotpoint fridge freezer. My 18 month old machine went wrong and it took 4 days for an engineer to come out. He was unable to repair the machine. I phoned twice that day as i should receive a replacement and they were unable to talk to me as they were waiting for the engineer report. bought samsung freedge freezer from online shop AO and add insurance from D&G. item is faulty! several emails, hours on the phone, paid lines, 4 engeeniers visits later I still have it unfixed. Both Ao shop and D&G washing their hands off as it's under 12 months warranty! they would literary not even talked to us, redirecting us to samsung. samsung say it's up to them to replace, they say it's up to samsung to fixed! If your appliance is within 12 months of purchase, it will be the responsibility of the manufacturer to resolve the issue as it is under manufacturer guarantee. If you purchased an extended warranty, D&G will be responsible to cover you when the manufacturer's guarantee ends.

“Won't go back!”

Be aware that if your appliance is written off then you are liable for the full cost of your remaining annual cover. However, if you cancel your agreement due to dissatisfication, then your policy and monthly payments stop, no questions asked - I cancelled all my appliances with D&G out of principle as I disagree with their t&c's.
