As an owner of a Honda CB750 in the early 70s which was the greatest super bike of the age, I havn't found another machine to touch it, apart from the Yammy XJR My 2006 (Normally aspirated) XJR is the greatest retro bike in the world! 1970s styling with new millennium technology makes this bike the greatest! ! Easy to maintain, easy on drive chain, dead reliable, timeless styling and an overall winner. Fuel consumption heavy if you really 'gas it', take it a little easy and you can get... (read more)

This is my fourth bike and best yet. Sure it is big and heavy but you don't notice it when you start riding, very nimble and handles great. Loads of torque, very comfortable and sounds great too with killer retro looks. Quite thirsty when using the engine fully but if fairly frugal when touring within the speed limit. All in all a great bike! (read more)

Ive owned my 05 XJR for 5 years now just clocked up 10k so quite low milage. Used every day to commute only 5 miles away, but very busy traffic.so has the grunt and attitude to deal with(with nice 4into1 Remus). I looked at buying something new this year but could not find a bike Id rather ride so keeping Xjr.There is no replacement for such a beast. Very reliable, never done anything other that plug's,filter's and oil etc. Heavy,sh*t on fuel, paint job cr*p, but you got to love it. (read more)

Bought mine with only 2090 miles on the clock, a 59 plate from wood's in abergele north wales for £4800 i love the look of muscle bike's and the xjr is one of the nicest, they look just like proper motorbike's and the comfort on this thing last's for age's so it's great for long distance riding. One of it's greatest strength's is it's low down drive (torque) it has the strength to pull down a tree and give's you a all mighty buzz going forward, on fuel it's pretty thirsty, on bend's it does... Can be rough on rear tyres and is not the best on fuel, on the other hand thats all its going to cost you, a small amount of paint has peeled off the engine, but... (read more)

I bought a 12 month old Yamaha XJR1300 sports bike in 2000 with 3000 miles on the clock. It has loads of smooth power right through the revs. The brakes are the same as used on the R1 so no problems there. I had it for 18 months and sold it to my mate who still has it now. When it gets hot there is a top end rattle (may be the oil he used) I had no problems while I owned it. A real muscle bike with mild manners around town. Hope you like polishing bikes! (read more)

As with a lot of you I bought it for it's gorgeous look and engine, it looks fast parked! Mines a red sp and I bought it 6 years old with 4,000 genuine miles on the clock, which I doubled the first year. All they must have done was polish it! I'm approaching 60 and this is the finest all round machine I've ever owned. Bought my xjr1300 after a break from bikes and wanted to try a more upright position after the sports 600 I last owned. The bike is easily the best bike I have owned. The high torque at low revs is very pleasing, it is light and easy to ride for a big bike and with handsome looks, it ticks all the boxes for me. Bought my XJR1300 new in 2009. Had some big bikes before but the fuel injected XJR is more refined than some. Because its naked its tempting to put a screen on, but that would spoil the ride and the looks. Horses for courses, I'd prefer to use my VFR for long distances. Yamaha XJR1300 is an amazing machine, a truely epic piece of motorcycle engineering.
My XJR started life as a standared SP model, the engine is bullet proof, with a few cheap mods the power is up to 140-RWHP, the best modification was my Barnett drag racing clutch, cheap and easy to install, needs mineral but has never gone wrong once.
This bike, in the right hands, because of it's grunty motor, and even on twisty roads will eat R1's for brekkie.

Lovely bike that really grows on you, that can tackle anything except off-road really well - will pull from 30mph in top gear without snatching or complaining - even 2-up.
Learn to ride it and respect the weight, and its very satisfying to hustle - it's a easy bike to handle at normal speeds, but demands attention and input if you want to really push it - but that's what makes it involving and fun to ride. It's more than fast enough for road work - not much will come past a well-ridden one...

Can anyone else better 30mpg? I am after a Yamaha XJR (silver or black, and up to £3750), but if fuel consumption is that bad I might have to rethink - I want it for more than a once a month weekend blast.

Hello
The Yamaha XJR1300 doesn't feel so bad at 30mpg. Every refill costs between £12 to £14 (depending on the price of petrol). So paying for the high consumption in small instalments makes it feel easier!!

The car needs about £45 to fill it up, and it does over 40 to the gallon, but I feel the pinch when I dish out £45 to fill up!!

I tell you what - the ride is well worth the price you pay for petrol!!
Written on: 21/09/2007
I agree with Muscle Biker!!

The XJR is pretty much worth it, and to be quite honest I don't think I've ridden a bike as good as that for a long time (I've been riding for 12 years now). So I think it's a small price to pay (30gpm) for the joy of the ride. At the end of the day a bike is never a choice of reason, it is more of an impulse and/or personal preference.

I have had bandits Kawasaki,s etc bought my xjr November 2012 the performance is good its fast and handles fantastic you feel confident on the xjr If I was to sell this bike my next one would be another xjr I don't have a garage so the bike is left to face the elements with all the rain over the past 6 months there is still no signs of rust build quality is good and very reliable the only minor problem is fuel consumption the bandit 1250 was more economical by about 4 to 5 miles per gallon
