“An honest review”

★★★★☆

written by HonestPete13 on 05/03/2017

Hi, Just to clarify this is an honest review of my dealings with Moneybarn... I took out an £11000 finance loan secured on a car, taken over 4yrs which was calculated at £392 per month. Yes, I am going to agree that this is high but considering my credit rating isnt fantastic (actually classed as "poor") I could afford this amount as I earn £550 per week. I have made every payment on time and in full. No issues I have contacted them twice, first time to change address as I moved home, second time was to change car reg details as i purchased a private reg... I was not charged on either occasions for admin, time etc... As far as I am concerned, I have received my statements and documents on time, never had an issue so I will say these are a good company so long as you are a good customer. If you agree to the payments, term time etc then you should stick to it, and you should always consider sickness, accidents, time off work when considering finance.. I would recommend but would be honest and say the APR is very high but what do you expect when lending money, they need an insurance blanket should you not make a payment etc like most of you on here are stating but then slagging the company off as they dont go out their way to help you... Like i said, an honest review. 4 stars for the simple fact of the high apr rate otherwise it would be 5

“So far so good”

I've been with moneybarn since March 2014. I would never be accepted for a car due to my credit rating droping since my divorce. Altho I think the payments are high;I pay £330 a month on a car I picked that was only 4 months old. In September 2014 I had to reduce one month's payment as I was off work sick and we don't get good sick pay just ssp. I rang moneybarn straight away and it was fine to pay them £200 and they let me split the remaining £130 over 4 months on top of my £330. They are fine long as you ring them ASAP not after they try to take the payment. I've also had to ring up and change my payment date as our wage day changed which was fine. It's the 2nd time you do it they charge you. So touch wood I've had no problems. And remember they are trying to run a business lending to a lot of people that are rubbish with money. I've also seen my credit rating go back up slowly as I pay on time and think this is why I now have a credit card too; first time in 8 years. Only 2 more years to go now and I've paid my car off and will use them again.

I am a professional working full time with a good salary and refused credit by a car dealership because of a credit file that showed late payments in the past which meant our credit score read "good" obviously not good enough !!!! I am about to take delivery of my lovely car and the finance was arranged in a couple of days. I am therefore very happy to write this review and although the rates are a bit higher we intend to pay it off much earlier. Moneybarn were very efficient and I have already recommended them to a work colleague!!!!

We had to use a specialist lender for our car financing and were put in contact with Moneybarn who have since been providing our vehicle finance. The facility was put in place very quickly and the agreements have been handled extremely professionally and efficiently bythe lady I dealt with. We would highly recommend the services and products provided by the team at Moneybarn. N.Byrne Director

“Fast. Efficient. Easy.”

★★★★☆

written by 459Wade on 20/11/2014

This is the 2nd time I have used Moneybarn and I doubt very much it will be the last. The first time round I used a broker to find me a car and deal with all the paperwork but this time I used one of Moneybarn's own in-house dealmakers. After a random call from the company because I moved house and had forgotten to update my details I just asked on the off chance to see what I had left to pay and what were my options. Not only was the response immediate it was surprising that I was able to re-finance and get a new car. Just under two weeks later the deal was done. You do have to find your own car unlike with a broker but thats half the fun. I was very well looked after and most importantly the communication and response time was excellent. My dealmaker and she was brilliant. Thanks Again.

All in all a good experience, it took 9 days from start to finish. My only gripe was it took a while for the funds to be paid to the dealer. I didnt think i would be excepted but they were so understanding of past issues and no hitches.

Needed a car asap for work, went to Motorpoint to finance a car, was turned down by Black Horse due to my poor credit history, but was accepted by Moneybarn. The APR is 29.2% but not planning to pay this back over 5 years So far so good

“Fast, efficient service, but super high APR.”

★★★★☆

written by ceGriffin162 on 13/05/2014

Firstly, it would be wrong of me not to give credit to the staff of Moneybarn who were extremely helpful, efficient and courteous. They made no judgement about my one credit blemish during the worst of the financial crisis when my business of 20 years collapsed, and ensured that the finance for my new car was processed quickly. As this is a company who deals with people who have experienced financial difficulty at some point in the last 6 years, I expected that the APR would not be favourable. However, I found that the actual APR was a closely guarded secret which would only be revealed once you had decided on a car. Even then, they only wanted to talk about the monthly repayments, not the APR, and I was supplied with an APR figure 2% below what it actually turned out to be once I accepted it. I firmly believe that the APR figure (37%) did not in any way reflect the risk that I represented to the company, as I have only had one bad year in the 36 years I have been working, and have had no difficulties in the last 5 years. I believe that the APR figure of 37% reflected the fact that I had no debt, and a high disposable income. In other words, they realised that I had a considerable amount of available money each month which could be tapped into by ramping up their APR figure as it would have been abundantly clear to them that I could easily afford the repayments. Overall, although I was satisfied with the staff, whose customer service was excellent, the company itself conducts ruthless business which is very close to unethical, ruthless exploitation of their customers in such a way that the customer is likely to experience further financial hardship be accepting the terms and conditions of the company. If you can possibly get finance elsewhere, then you really owe it to yourself to do so. To accept finance on these terms is suicidal stupidity unless you are in a very comfortable position to meet the monthly payments with plenty of money left to spare each month.

“used for a second time”

written by 148Callahan on 12/03/2014

This is the second time I have used moneybarn, the convenience of going to a dealer of your choice is far better than being ripped off by overpriced 'specialised' companies and although it took just over a week I mow have a two year old car sat on the drive! Very straightforward, and as its the seond time around the apr is somewhat lower than last time, although still quite high. Would definately recommend to someone in my position.

“PERFECT CAR”

I needed to get a new car but with poor credit found it impossible via usual means. Came to Moneybarn and I have to say the experience has been a joy. They were incredibly helpful, kept me informed every part of the journey, always up-front and transparent with the figures, always friendly and courteous. I have been driving my Hyundai i30 which is only six months old for a few months now and I am delighted with it. Thank you Moneybarn!

We got a car just after we had our son, and have since had another child now the car isn't big enough, can we swap the car and continue paying the finance on the new car, so just swap finance over to new car?

I'm thinking of paying a lump sum of £5k off my money barn car loan. I had a settlement figure or about £11k in October 2014 with another 3 years to go. I currently pay about £380 per month and wanted to know a) would this incur penalties? b) would the term still be the same with lower payments?

Thanks for answering this question.

I contacted them myself with a similar query and asked 24m into a 48m how much it would be to do so. Was told considerably lower and when final settlement was offered had a discount of around £300, which to be honest i was half expecting. My theory of paying off in half the time was so all of the 24m remaining interest would be take off but this wasnt the case. Would imagine if u pay the £5k you can still pay £380 just less payments. They are very reluctant to give you money off once u put pen to paper thats it with these guys..

Contact the company and ask for a settlement figure verbally or in writing.

MoneyBarn do not charge a penalty for early settlement, so as truthseeker89 has advised simply contact them for a settlement figure.
