I used utilitywise to secure best deal for my business bills. I spent hours on the phone providing all the details they needed for a swap of suppliers in May. The swap was meant to take around 6 weeks. After number of emails that I sent chasing it up it turned out they lack competence to do what they claim they do. The replies to my emails usually started-'' Sorry I was out of office.... I will chase it up... At the end I realised they are not capable of doing their job and I asked for all the changes to be cancelled. That was at the end of September- over 12 weeks after I agreed to terms and conditions from the new supplier. It turned out that they never contacted my current supplier to arrange for the changes.... I can imagine I lost a few hundred pounds as I was on standard-most expensive tariff for the whole duration of this joke! Waste of 4 months, hours on the phone and a lot of money!!!

utility wise convinced me everflow was cheaper for my water supply, I am now apparantley tied into a 3 year contract and have to pay up front estimated bills for my water which works out a lot more expensive, never using them again it is going to be a very expensive mistake

I agreed a rate for electricity and signed Contract Acceptance documents. Now bills arrive and rate is higher than agreed. Contacted Utility Wise and the reason was due to a typo! Twice !!! And there is nothing they will do to rectify THEIR TYPO. Beware!!

I was contacted by this company,by cold calling, claiming to reduce my electricity costs and they introduced me to Corona Energy who have tied me into a contract until 2020.My electric costs have now doubled and Corona threatened me with court action if I switched providers.Utilitywise we're absolutely no help.

Completely mis-sold a horrendous rate and tarrif to a business via telephone, refused to help, only provided half a telephone conversation ! Terrible service! We're not finished!

Guilty of gross Mis - Selling and dishonest to the core. Avoid completely. Ring around to the main supplers to get the best deals. This is a small company making loads of money? How? By ripping small businesses off who are the most fragile and needy and it's common knowledge in the Energy sector. If it's too late and you have already signed up and they have Mis - Sold to you - Gas, Electric and soon to be Water contracts contact the Trading standards , the suppliers they have put you on or take legal action. Utility wise needs closing down. Write your experience on Trust Pilot and other review sites.... If in any doubt Utility wise is ranked 1138 out of 1232 in the category For Companies on Trust Pilot and I would take positive reviews on here with a bucket of salt as apparently they get the staff to write Positive reviews on many review sites according to ex staff.

How this company has not been closed down for their lying scheming ways is beyond me, Promise everything and give you nothing but hassle poor service and then stop answering e-mails when things go pear shape. I'm stuck in a 5 year contract that is way more than i was paying previous

After being pressured into buying a "cheaper" energy tariff, they basically don't want to know! we have been having a lot of problems with our supplier over the last year and a half, resulting in our bills being SERIOUSLY over estimated, no-one at Utilitywise gives a monkeys! THEY DON'T EVEN ANSWER EMAILS! AVOID AVOID AVOID! complaint escalated to Ombudsman now. Disgusting how they can get away with it. My advice - HANG UP !!!

Hi utilitywise did the same thing they stuck me in a 5 year contract now and our previous supplier was cheaper it's not even been 14 days and they said no cool off period what's the best option to do next?

The energy market has got much more complicated, and volatility (& scaremongering) are very much in the public domain. Utility Wise capitalise on this and talk a good talk about saving money but I've actually seen no evidence of this. They have always been reluctant to prove that they can save money and I can now comfortably say they have COST me money. They tie customers up in fancy language, speculation and bureaucracy. The only thing worse that a mega-utility is a broker posing as a money-saver who turns out to be out to fleece their customers.

The best way to save money is to use less energy. Utilitywise help you to do so using various ways which include getting you rates which are fixed for longer periods, have access to group procurement options that a small business would never have access to and offer products and services to educate businesses on how to use less energy. You also need to understand how the e energy rates increase year after year and the purpose of the service is to help u understand how the energy market works, after are they deal with suppliers for you so you only have to pay your bill.

Very high rates, not competative at all very pushy sales team! Have left me not sleeping at night with worry! Due to the high rates they have put me in! Do not sign a Loa whatever you do and ask for everything in writing! They don't like that, and take your time to get other quotes so you are aware what is on the market at the time! All stuff I wish I'd done then I would have realised!

Utilitywise strung me along for 5 months without sorting my supply. They do this because if you are on out of contract rates with a company they work with, they can profit from your pain. They came up with all sorts of excuses and problems as to why the supply transfer could not be made and only provided any information when chased relentlessly. They also tried to rip me off for a £1200 deposit to join British Gas because of my bad credit - I have absolutely no credit issues and so if they try to do this to you, know that it is just a sham. From my experience do not even consider Utilitywise if you are on out of contract rates as they will string it out for their own profit and make your expensive billing last as long as possible. They promise to make your life easier so you don't have to deal with hassle of the company directly when in fact the opposite is true - my experience of dealing with them was worse than any energy company. They do not offer very good rates and do not offer any extra service than going direct because once you are through with their sales department they are as useless and unresponsive as any company I have ever dealt with.

Thank you for taking time to leave your review.
I'm very sorry to hear that you've had these problems when setting up your energy contracts through Utilitywise. I'm not sure what caused the delay in your situation but Its in our interest, as well as yours, to arrange contracts as quickly as possible.
When arranging contracts through ourselves you also gain access to the additional products and services that we provide - if you're interested in finding out more about these please call our customer care team who will be happy to discuss with you.

It makes no sense for utilitywise to keep you on out of contract rates cos they get paid off the supplier when they sign you into a contract. Some suppliers do also ask you to pay a deposit when you sign up to them as a security deposit so not a sham.
When you take a contract via utilitywise they do all the liason with the energy companies for you, they do also provide an energy service to you which includes regular bill checking and other services and now with the deregulation of the water market coming up soon this is something else they can assist with. The aim of tge service is to save u the hassle of dealing with this but like any other company they dont work for nothing.

UtilityWise's Friendly EC got me to sign a LOA letter of authority (I been told since it was LEVEL3 LOA) DO NOT sign one of these, they now have total control over my gas & electric. The PHONE CALL I was having with another "nice man " was a BINDING CONTRACT I am now tied into a 5 year contract with ENGIE On a HIGHER RATE,I DID NOT realise I had NO COOLING OFF PERIOD apparently I should've ASKED (stupid me)as they do not have to tell you there is no cooling off period I rang my present suppliers to compare quotes 2 days later and it was cheaper. the "nice man" over the phone didn't return my calls.I started emailing The Complaints Dept in both companies I got my recorded telephone conversation (Joke) DO NOT say yes to your name DO NOT say that you have authority to deal with energy contracts and DO NOT say you are HAPPY to continue (unless your really sure of yourself and not stupid like me) THESE ARE THE KEY QUESTION THEY HAVE TO ASK FOR IT TO BE A BINDING CONTRACT and be very weary if they start talking really really fast and mumble that will be the bit where they are saying "this call is a binding contract" you will not be given time to think about it or get anything in writing to look at cos you have just said YES to a verbal contract.... Today Ive heard from Citizens Advice.... The fight continues.... Tonight I start my reviews of Utilitywise.... I am one unhappy middle aged LandLady who thought life couldn't get any worse..STUPID ME...

I'm sorry to hear that you're uphappy with the experience of arranging your contracts through Utilitywise. The reason we need the letter of authority is to enable us to deal with suppliers on your behalf. If you no longer wish us to have this authority please contact our customer care line and they will be able to arrange for this to be removed from our system,
Written on: 14/10/2016
yes a letter of authority to deal with suppliers on my behalf ..ok ..not to sign new contracts on my behalf without me realising or giving me time to think or go over the small print which would have mean me seeing the clause "NO COOLING OF PERIOD"
I could ring your customer care line but thats a bit like shutting the gate after the horse has bolted !!!
But thank you for your generic reply it was so helpful !!!!!!!

I work with a charity that runs a local center, one of these salesmen manged to convince one of the members to sign up, deal seemed good at the time however 2 weeks after the time for their chosen supplier to take over the meter they advised that this had not occurred and we were incurring out of contact rates but good luck they had managed to get these fees waived all we had to do was agreed to go with the existing supplier, About 2 minutes of research showed it was a impressively expensive rate. About 5 minutes latter I had a better rate and fees waived however was still locked in to a gas contact with them. They informed me that despite having a "locked in price" Total Gas and power were unable to supply due to higher than expected transmission cost. They were unable to define what they meant by "locked in" price. Their chosen supplier total gas and power would not talk to me as they believe the agreement was with utilitywise. Utilitywise accept no fault as they assure me that they only arrange agreements and the problem is between Total Gas and Power and us. Eventually I got them to assure me they have raised a complaint with Total Gas and Power but are unable to release any correspondence as it is between an "internal" contact. The complaint procedure states 10 days response, I starting chasing this process after 2 weeks, to date received a email stating it was not their fault, no explaination of what occured just that it was not their fault.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. It saddens me to read of the problems you've been having and that they're yet to be resolved.
I understand, from speaking to our complaints team, that there is still an open complaint ongoing with the supplier. I've asked that someone from that team gives you a call to provide an update as to its current status.
Written on: 17/10/2016
Well 4 months after original complaint was raised, but only 3 days after posting here we finally got a call and a initial response. Still blaming everything on supplier and still forthcoming with the correspondence that would allow me to take up directly with supplier (assuming correspondence referenced actually exists or backs up their assertions) but hopefully now that the customer service department has picked it up we might get a proper reply,

Utility wise contacted me numerous times, on some occasions quite pushy, and gave outline proposals stating their quote was cheaper based on the comparable charges with my current half hourly HV meter quotation from Scottish Power. Fortunately I noticed before signing the contact that they had forgot to add the Renewable Obligation charge with amounted to a whopping £30k on a £200k pa contract. Over a 3 year contract, which this was, it would have been £60k extra. Try explaining that to your boss! My opinion is to avoid and go directly to energy suppliers. My experience with Utility wise has put me off using any type of intermediary for the purchase of energy.
written by WilcoM on 24/02/2016
The initially jovial and chatty sales people at Utilitywise soon invite you to sign a Letter of Authority (LOA) to investigate prices on your behalf. Naively this was dutifully signed by one of my employees but the conditions allow them to end contracts, negotiate and even enter into new contracts on your behalf. DO NOT SIGN ONE OF THESE UN EDITED! They do not act in your best interests but their own. They signed us up to a three year deal for gas with a start date 18 months in advance. The KWH price of 5.17p is more than I pay for my domestic gas and their advisor tells us "Yes, that's a very good deal!" You will not get a contract to sign, as they say it is all done verbally without having anything further to sign. This shower are supposed to be acting on our behalf.... How can that be when they terminate one contract 6 months early to replace it with another at a higher KWH rate? I am incandescent with slow burning indignation that this "sharp practice" at best and more likely mis-selling is allowed to be perpetrated, hiding behind what I purport to be unfair terms. Avoid like the plague!!!!

You're welcome. (platitudes over...)
We are currently trying to do this for all the good it seems to be doing. Customer services / complaints have had our case for a while now and have not contacted me. Your good lady salesperson, polite though she is, still hides behind the LOA, completely ducking the question of whether this was the best deal available to us at the time. I strongly suspect it was the best deal for Utilitywise.
I have asked how much commission will be paid to Utilitywise for this overpriced deal and am yet to receive a response. I don't suppose a straight answer will be forthcoming, but I live in hope.
How can a KWH rate of over 5p on gas be a good deal on a spend of over £ 20,000 over the contract period? I pay less at home to heat 2.2 kids and a tortoise! For comparison our existing arrangement, that you have pulled us out of early, is approx. 3.5p/Kwh
I also would have thought, with any contract, there would need to be cooling off period. For this to be the case, we would ideally need to know that we have been entered into a chuffin' contract in the first place.
Very, very poor. As I said previously AVOID, AVOID, AVOID
Utilitywise did me a deal,
just sign here it'll be a steal.
Dutifully we signed away,
trusting that we wouldn't pay
more than normal for our gas.
It seems I've turned into an Ass.
Do you like that?
Written on: 09/06/2016
Hi there, this is common practice for this company unfortunately. If you are still with your old supplier, you can simply renew with them and the switch will be objected to by your current supplier when the time comes. On your spend, you should be looking at a unit rate of around 2.5-3p per KWH. Obviously this means UW have added around 2.5-3p which goes into their deep pockets and would have doubled your spend on gas.
