I paid for 1 year house insurance. At the end I always look for a cheaper deal. Churchill sent me a renewal proposal, which I ignored because they were dearer than the rest. Then I found they had renewed my cover without my asking. I had to phone them, at my expense, to cancel the policy. They wanted £24.50 to close the policy, even though I hadn't asked for it. I threatened County Court action and they backed down. I'll never use them again. (read more)

I had been with Churchill for a number of years with no problems. This was because I paid my premium, had no claims or accidents - no problem. I had exactly the same problem today...insured my new car so that I could tax it, but no certificate available online! I was just told that they could fax it in two days time! At the moment I am unable to drive my car as it has no tax disc. Another problem is that I don't have a fax machine anyway! Surley they went out with the ark!?? When I suggested they might email the certificate, they said the facilities to eamil were not available! When I asked for my online log in number so that I might be able to view my policy, I was told that it would be sent in the post and would arrive in 5 to 7 working days! What is the point of having an online service if you have to wait till your hard copy documents arrive in the post before you can use it? I t should be made quite clear on the website that Chuchill are unable to send you an electronic copy. This was the first time I have used Churchill, and judging by their performance so far, it will be the last!

The additional £250 charge is anything but clear on the hard copy policy under the excess section.

Wait until you have an accident until you judge any insurance company.
Their departmental set-up makes it impossible to get answers to simple questions and it communication becomes an industry.
I was mis-advised about excess leves following an accident and was only told what repairs would actually cost when the situation was out of my control (car had been taken away by them)
I wouldn't recommend this company to anybody and suggest that despite all of their corporate clout they are distinctly amateurish when it comes to dealing with customers.

Dear friend,
Have you any witness. If so then you may have a chance in avoiding Churchill's famous 50/50 decision to settle liability. They are very laid back and pride themselves in not defending paying customers.
I myself is going through the 50/50 split when in fact the third party is to be blamed and to top it all when he hit me at the roundabout he tried to do a runner but speedy gonzales here caught up with him and exchanged details after calling the police. Mr Third party is a notorious liar and so to date he will not admit he hit me.
Anyway I continue to fight the case but only on 50/50 liability for my injury and loss suffered as a result of the hit and run accident. Churchill already accept 50/50 settlement and therefore I have no choice but to accept the same.
On top of all the insults and injury physically and mentally I endured Churchill increased my premium (quote) by nearly £600 considering that my NCB was protected which I paid for. But thanks to compare the market dot com i escaped their vengeance.
Let me tell you they are the insurance company from hell and Micheal Myers can't be compared to them when they have finished with the customer who unfortunately have an accident though they are insured and then tries to make a claim with them.
Good luck with your claim.

I am insured with Churchill and have 12 years NCD. Despite this, my insurance costs increased by more than £200 per annum. I have a £400 excess and no hire care facility. I had an accident very recently that was not my fault and was obviously the truck driver's fault as he had not secured his load properly. Churchill wants me to pay my excess which I will forfeit unless the owner of the haulage company admits liability. I was told by the operator that I did not have any witnesses. I do not know how she knew this but when I said that witnesses may be available to support my claim of no wrongdoing, she dismissed this.I doubt if the other party will admit liability as insurance companies discourage this so the way that I see it, I will lose £400 even though I have done nothing wrong and I will be without my car for a number of weeks.
It is really a no win situation for the consumer.

I've been with Churchill for around two years, previously with Tesco + Halifax due to cheap quotes when I'd first passed my test. Every time I have contacted Churchill they have always been very friendly and helpful, I've never had any problems with documents not arriving or anything like that. I recently crashed my car into a wall when the roads were quite bad with ice, someone braked in front of me so it was a case of either driving into them or swerving & hitting the wall.. I chose the... (read more)

As I was waiting to exit a driveway at 7pm last November. I saw a car approaching down the hill on my side of the road. The driver of this car for some unknown reason braked, and slid into the rear corner of my car on the ice and snow. I took a picture of the tyre skid marks and the position of my car which was parked a good two feet into the drive. Churchill Insurance have taken the easy route of saying that it was my fault and have recorded it on my insurance. Where is the logic? Except... (read more)

Turning right at a roundabout and transit van hit passed me on roundabout and hit me. He was going straight accross roundabout. He continued withouth stopping. I would never go with Churchill Car Insurance - absolutely shocking customer service and overall a joke of a company. I was supposed to pick up my brand new car two days ago however due to Churchill this has still not happened. They assured me that if i purchased the car insurance over the phone, they would fax a temporary cover note in order for me to pick up my car. However they went back on their words and said the next day it was against company policy. They then said it would be... (read more)

Had a crash on the M25 when going on holiday - got hit by a foreign driver who fell asleep. Churchill recovered our car to the M25 service area as that was the recovery firms nearest depot. Thats as far as they go - leave you abandoned at the services, no help, no hire car, no recovering car to home or onward travel even though this was included in my comprehensive policy with recovery. We were supposed to get a car within 24 hours - but car hire company closed at noon on saturday (half... (read more)

I very much doubt you have been charged an admin fee but more an additional premium due to where you have moved to... I got charged £127 due to my move to a different city and the admin fee which actually costs £15.90 got waived check your documents and you will see no admin for £25

You are mistaken unfortunately.
I was told quite clearly on the phone that the £25 was an admin fee, there was no additional premium at all and I have the letter with amended address documents in front of me.
I can quote from it......"The additional premium also includes our administration fee of £25.00, which is exempt from I.P.T".
Except there was no additional premium, I have not paid extra due to the change in location.
I have not paid I.P.T which is Insurance Premium Tax.
I have simply paid the £25 which as it clearly states is an admin fee.
So my complaint stands....£25 for them to press a few buttons on a keyboard.

Every insurance company in the uk will charge you ipt as a legal requirement sent by the government call them and ask because I can guarantee they won't have charged you that at just admin... Also if they are saying it is admin ask for it back as they told me they are waiving all admin costs for the foreseeable future

Again I'm forced to tell you that you are mistaken.
The phone call with a Churchill employee left no room for debate on this matter, she told me quite clearly that it was an admin fee, at no time did she ever state it was an increased premium.
Her words, not mine that I'm quoting here.
The letter also, as I have already stated makes it quite clear that it's an admin fee....there is NO tax to pay as there is NO premium.
There is no tax on the admin fee alone....only on any premium....therefore by definition I have not paid a premium.
If it helps to clarify your confusion I have also been charged by the RAC for another vehicle insurance I have.....they have charged me £27.00 consisting of a £2.00 premium and a £25.00....yes, you guessed it, an admin fee.
I'm hardly in a position to tell them I want it back.....the whole point is that I either paid it or lost my insurance cover, I made it quite clear I wasn't happy and wouldn't use them again and it made no difference, that's why I'm here posting about it.
If your insurance company waived your admin fee then that's good for you.....but the RAC and Churchill did not for me and so far have not responded to my written complaints adequately.
