A friend once referred to the type of music Groove Salad plays as, "Ambient Dance." That is spot on. I use it as my default background music in my office, It's low-key, unobtrusive enough to not be distracting while I work, but every once in a while I find myself dancing to it. It sneaks up on you. Lots of rhythms and layers. (read more)

SomaFM is one of the best internet radio stations I have ever listened to. For me, the top stations provided at somafm.com are Groove Salad, Secret Agent Radio, and Christmas Lounge (only available in the holiday season). I've been listening to them for years, and considering that I am only able to donate yearly, I am definitely getting a lot of great music listening in return. And when SomaFM became available on the iPhone... I just listened to it more! :) (read more)

SomaFM is the soundtrack to my workday. They have a large number of stations, all without commercials, playing 24/7 uninterrupted except by the occasional station ID. Groove Salad, Space Station Soma and Lush are my favourite stations, and can be heard humming away quietly in my headphones whenever I'm at my desk. SomaFM are entirely donation driven via their website, and even if you toss them $50/year, it's fantastic value for money in my opinion. (read more)

I discovered the SomaFM streams years ago when iTunes was fledgling. Most of my friends had no idea you could use your computer to stream radio. 'Secret Agent' and 'Mission Control' were the best ambient streams to fill your house with. Sooner than later, a few businesses began using SomaFM and the count of streams available increased.

When i first found SomaFM, i clicked the Lush station and BOOM all my undiscovered favorites all in one place.
there is a taste for everyone, to smooth vocal ambient music to metal/covers
the great thing about SomaFM is that it doesn't play music that EVERYBODY has already hear a million times already, they play music that are from artists that are not very well known, which i think is great since that helps both the artist to get publicity as well as it helps listeners to discover new...

SomaFM is one of the best Internet radios, and it is also free. It has twenty channels ranging from smooth lounge to dark electronic. The most popular one is Groove Salad, which plays chillout, trip-hop and similar styles. You can leave it playing round the clock and it will be a continuous source of pleasure. There are also more "alternative" channels, of which I strongly suggest the Sonic Universe (avant-garde jazz, including many ECM classics), Space Station Soma (ambient with beats), and... (read more)

SomaFM.com is FREE, listener-supported Internet radio, based in San Francisco. Wow, where do I start? They have dozens of staions; from ethereal tones to trippy, trancy ambient electronica to electro-jazz/lounge, even to NASA inspired stations that include real radio transmissions from actual space travels - SomaFM.com is my current music LOVE.
