“Even worse down the line”

It seemed like a bargain, and in theory, has all the features. However, it cannot be left to its own devices to record anything. We live near Bristol Airport and occasionally we suffer from signal dropout which causes the box to lock up and trash the recording. Now, it cannot find software updates, and the Sagemcom website no longer has the software update available. The box now cannot see the BBCiplayer as well as many Freesat channels. It resents non-Freesat channels too! Its rapidly turning itself into a pile of junk! What a waste of money? I wish I had read some reviews like these before I bought it.

I have re same box when you press the yes button to record a series it automatically freezes very very frustrating my box like yours does not pick up all the channels. I have to say this is my second sagem and I did not have any problems with the first one and that was 're reason I chose the same one it was obviously the wrong decision.

“French so as bad as the cars!”

I had 2 of these from Argos, first one ran really old software but that didn't matter as the hard drive was faulty. Got a second unit and this was running the latest version of their software but kept locking up, screen went blank all the time and failed/lost recordings. Soooo! unreliable. Would not go with Sagemcom and and would not recommend at all. All there freesat units play up.

“piece of junk - DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL”

i only bought this because it was recommended by freesat. it's proved completely useless, freezing constantly and requiring frequent resets, which entail the loss of programmes, channels and settings. the USB port doesn't work, and sagemcom have given up any active support of this machine, although it's not very old. when even the maufacturer can't be bothered, you know it's time to look elsewhere. if this hasn't put you off completely, a very short review of online consumer feedback will convince you that this machine is widely reviled by most buyers.

“Nice features let down by awful software”

Sagemcom DTR94 Freesat (HD Digital Freesat recorder) Quick intuitive setup, good features and nicely laid out EPG. Nice looking unit. Easy to add non-Freesat channels once you know how too. I'd be very pleased with this except for one *big* problem which they could presumably easily resolve (like other manufacturers manage to): The software constantly jams up freezing the box, locking you out if you dare to record or use the live T.V pause feature or failing to show picture and sound (it varies from day to day in which fault it likes to inflict on you). From checking Sagemcoms community site this is a problem for lots of other owners too and has been for months and months. Having only owned this 3 weeks, I've had to do factory resets twice (so you have to set all your personal stuff up, blocking adult channels from the kids etc etc repeatedly over and over again) and it works for about a week before jamming again. Also they have released software updates, but you can buy boxes like mine well over 6 months on from them knowing about the software faults (as shown on thier community site) with the old buggy software still on, so check on the Sagemcom Support site. I've had to reinstall the software twice by USB stick in 3 weeks because even the supposedly improved updated software failed after 1 week and left us with a blank screen! Reinstalling returned us to having working T.V, but for how long this time? Highly unimpressed with the first Sagemcom product I've purchased. This would be a good unit if they would simply sort thier software out! Come on guys, other manufacturers manage to have working software.... and I'm really not asking too much for a box to work for more than 1 week at a time am I? Oh - no point in calling thier help line if you work for a living - it's only open while you are at work (9-5 Mon-Fri) so pretty much useless unless you are at home at box all day!

“Bought the SAGEM DTR94 unit about 6 weeks ago to...”

Bought the SAGEM DTR94 unit about 6 weeks ago to replace the Sky+ Box but only just started using it after Sky contract ceased.
Fitted to existing satellite cables and got 90% signal strength & 100% signal quality, pictures are superb in both HD & SD.
Network connected and BBC iPlayer is great, waiting for other services to be added.

Now the bad bit based on three days use:
first problem is it thinks its recording 2 progs when it isn't, also got stuck in the programme guide, only way to cure it is switch power OFF & ON.
Next stage is to do a factory reset. this cured all the nasty bugs (for now).
So I thought I'd give it a full on test, recording 2 HD films at the same time and watching one, Pause, FF, Rewind all worked fine, picture and sound were excellent.
Then the hard disc crashed with a message i'd have to reformat, I investigated the Library and could access all the previous recordings but on playback couldn't FF, Rewind pause or even Stop the playback, solved by switching off for 30 secs then back on. Re-formated the hard-disk and had to do another factory reset.

Has been working fine for an hour now.
If problems persist i'll contact Sagem and take the unit back.

“Took about 10 minutes to set up including taking it...”

Took about 10 minutes to set up including taking it out of the box. The cables that come with it are standard and the picture is not quite as good as with my normal freeview TV picture, but that could be an issue with the cables?
Its easy and straightforward to use. I had sky plus before and this just plugged straight in to the same satellite dish cables etc. The menu is smaller to read than the sky one, but otherwise essentially it does all the same stuff and I'm not having to pay a monthly fee for it.
