There was nothing I disliked or was unhappy about. In fact at the car rental I inquired about extra insurance ( USA ) but agent advised that it was not needed; already fully covered. My experience in the USA has always been they try and push extra insurance. Pched up in Atlanta and returned to Atlanta Airport with absolutely no problems. (read more)

On airport hire that proved you can get cheap efficient car hire that helps you enjoy your holiday rather than worry about transport. Fuel policy was full to full but it is always worth checking. Additional driver was included and there was no charge for early drop off on return. All in all a very good experience that I will use again and again. It would be reassuring if you could check the complete hire car details when booking car hire before you enter payment details for the first time... (read more)

Easy web site to use but I didnt like the fact that I did not know which supplier would be allocated until after I had paid. I did however receive the voucher within 60 minutes of booking and I did not recognise the allocated rental company. The web site appeared to promote major nrands and did not make it clear that the cheaper prices are with lesser branded rental companies. As a foreigner, I felt at ease to drive with the small car I rented even if I was not accostumed to drive on the left side of the road. I had to fuel only once in 5 days. But the option to give the car with an empty tank is not something I would recommend as on the way back we are constanly afraid to run out of gasoline . Hiper car rental driver was easy to find outside the airport, he issued everyone with a numbered ticket for use at the hirecar location. Takes roughly 10minutes per booking but there were three desks open at the time we arrived. Car was upgraded free of charge and they operate a full-full policy on petrol. Was really easy to book and competitive prices, easy no nonsense insurance deal. Easy transfer from airport to pick up car. Only downside was the location of the Thrifty site when trying to return car. Difficult to get to without a decent map. everything went ok, but i wasn't told about the deposit that was required or how much until i booked. it was then on the stuff you need to take but still nothing telling you the amount - so i had to call them. when getting the car i was told that the amount would be only held on my credit card and returned when car returned. when returning the car i asked when my deposit would be given back, i was told 10 working days - thats not holding against account thats taking it then refunding at... Admittedly was dissapointed in the choice of car - booked in the Ford Focus class and got a Skoda Citigo. It was quite a long way from the booking desk to the carpark and as there were only three of us I decided to accept the car although it was on the small side! Overall the car was in very good condition and fine on the motorways and in town etc but struggled up hills due to size of the engine - bonus was getting 55mpg through the whole 635km trip. It was a very simple process to book online. I was travelling the next morning (very early) and had lots of things to organise, so it made life that little bit easier having an easy site to navigate through. Carrentals.co.uk has been good over the years - competitive pricing, well-known names and good service. One thing I dislike at the moment is the sales pitch by the rental companies to upgrade to diesel/bigger car etc - citing 'savings on fuel consumption' as the reason - this isn't usually the case, but it's easy money for them. The rental was with Firefly, part of Hertz? A dirty car with missing hub caps was shown to us, this we refused. Settled for a less dirty one with all hub caps. Hidden extras; full expensively charged fuel tank as an EXTRA! Had to agree to a charge if the car was returned dirty, the one we were given was dirty anyway. Poorly serviced car. I ordered a car through this site as the price was reasonable and most of all it promised absolutely no hidden extras. It particularly focused on the insurance costs. As I hate the extra charges for fully comp, particularly when I am already insured, I went for this. We are sorry to hear you were not happy with your rental experience. However, we would like to take this opportunity to point out that all information relating to fees payable locally on collection are clearly displayed within the terms and conditions, which you read agreed to when you completed your booking.
With regards to the Excess Insurance which you included with your booking, as you will have seen at the time of making your booking it states in the insurance T&Cs that it is standard practise for companies to ask you to leave a security deposit in the form of a credit card swipe when collecting your vehicle. This is to protect your excess on the insurance of the hire car (and any other items) they will need covered. The amount they ask you to leave is normally displayed either in the T&Cs before you make your booking and/or on the rental voucher.
When you purchase an excess insurance protection policy from a company other than the rental supplier, the supplier will insist on this deposit being left, as the policy covers you as the named driver and not their vehicle.
As you will know from reading the information provided with this policy at the time of booking, in the event of an accident you would have had to pay the rental company the excess amount when you dropped the car off and then claim that back from your insurance provider when you returned from your trip. The only way to avoid paying the excess desposit, is to purchase the local suppliers own excess insurance policy on collection of the vehicle.
As mentioned above, all information on what this excess policy was, what cover it provided and what you needed to do when collecting your vehicle was provided on the booking form at the time of booking under the excess insurance's own T&Cs and on the "what's this" link next to the policy.

fabulous price , easy to book, and collection and delivery of car easy. the car itself was lovely. The problem was that hertz were the suppliers of the car, and when we arrived at the airport for collection, despite us having taken out the insurance offered by the website, Hertz would not let us have the car without taking out their own insurance, at a cost of 40 euros. Ford mustang convertible hired for three weeks, it was the second cheapest quote I had but the service at pick up and drop off was great. Also had a choice of cars. you might find that that a similar experience could cost you a lot more without companies like hirecars.co.uk (read more)

The price was very competitive and the car supplied (a VW Jetta) was almost new. Booking, pick-up, drop etc. was painless. The only issue was the need to provide a $1500 reserve on a credit card to cover excess. Though not a problem in itself, it came as a surprise at the time of pick-up. (read more)

It was so convenient to have the car right there at Gatwick airport. No Messing around. Was in and out in just a few minutes. Previously had borrowed cars from friends and had to rely on pickups and drop offs at the airport. I booked a car the size of a Ford Mondeo estate - booked through Hertz. When we arrived, car was upgraded to a VW Touran Diesel - Fairly comfortable and plenty of baggage space if you fold the rear seats. Very economical too, especially when on the motorway. I good website, which gives an accurate global picture saveing you both time and money when looking for a rental car. It was cheaper than the actual supplier when I checked directly. The only thing is that every time I use this site and arrive at a different car rental supplier they tell me that the insurance provided is not as good as the insurance provided by the website. I got a good deal. The paperwork etc. was sent promptly and there were no problems with the hire. The only down side was that the actual hire car supplier did not detail how much the car seat for our son would cost (£9 a day as it turned out and more than the actual hire of the car!). All was ok with my rental in Verona airport. Quick service on the car receiving and on return. Some flaws: the right close range headlight didn't work, the windscreen fluid tank was empty, there wasn't ice scraper in the car and the car was without a seat heater.
