“Fast and reliable”

Written on: 27/06/2016 by Claudilla (1 review written)

My experience with this pet insurance has been excellent, from customer care to claims handling. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family. They contribute towards dental treatment, which is inevitable at some time in our pet's life, they also help with existing conditions if not treated over the last 2 years, which is also something most insurances don't cover. I would always recommend to choose a lifetime cover for your own peaces of mind… Read Full Review

“My cat is too old”

So sorry to hear you could not renew! 3 of our 4 policies are lifetime, so you can renew irrespective of age. Our one annual policy goes from 8 years to 8 years and cannot subsequently be renewed. We hope this is clear for all our customers and it must be so annoying to be in this position now... however, I know there are other insurers who do cover older pets so all is not lost. Sorry about this and please do call us for more information on what to do now.

Hi,

So sorry to hear this! It is only possible with our annual policy, our three lifetime policies cover all pets every year at renewal. The insurance cannot be cancelled. We always state clearly that insurance is only available from 8 weeks to 8 years!

I hope that your cats are well and if your policy was lifetime and there has been a misunderstanding then please let me know.

All the best,

Team VMC

“Appalling!!!!”

Written on: 22/04/2016 by Kelvinogborne (1 review written)

Last September I was informed by vets medicover that the insurers of my gsd were no longer doing pet insurance!! They found me an alternative insurer , but after reading the policy through found it a total waste of money!! Excess and policy limitations for current conditions made it a complete no no... When I first insured my dog with them it was a great policy!! However the premiums do increase quite considerably over the years.. Unfortunately as my dog has ongoing problems no other company… Read Full Review

So sorry you feel this way! It looks like you had a big claims last year, is that correct? Claims can sometimes push up the price of the premium. The policy we have does still offer great cover, have you been offered any cover. I hate to hear you're so disappointed. Have you spoken to our customer service team about this? Best regards to yourself and your pet.

Compared to a lot of dogs I train and train with no I wouldn't say it was a massive claim last year..
Dust mite allergy vacs, ears cleaned due to allergic reaction and zd special food which you only pay 20% up to £400 if I remember correctly!!
Without looking for the paperwork you sent which I've probably binned now I believe the renewal price was around £95 per month.. Excess was £80 and you would only pay 20% of existing conditions ?
Please correct me if I'm wrong..
And yes your so say customer service teams response was !! This is all we have to offer sorry

“Vets Medi cover”

Written on: 21/03/2016

My Boxer is 5 years old and during the first two years I would of recommended Vets Medi Cover. it started at £28 a month, last year £78 a month and I have just had the renewal at a whopping £139.32 a month. The original policy was for £10,000 worth of cover. They have now put a limit of £3000 for the conditions that we have previously claimed for. I rang Vets Medi Cover who were most unhelpful and unsympathetic Vets Medicover is the broker and the last two insurance companies have not… Read Full Review

Hi there, I'm so sorry to hear that we were unhelpful. When was the last time you spoke to someone in the office, is there nothing we can do? I think I'm correct in saying that most pet insurance companies are not the underwriter. We actually left the last two underwriters because they were trying to put the prices up so much and we wanted a better deal for our customers. Please do keep in touch as I know that my colleagues are doing everything that they can to help customers who have an increase in premium.

“Hike in price ”

Written on: 20/11/2015 by Dillonuv47 (1 review written)

Going to the ombudsman with this company. Doubled premium due to change of underwriter and will only cover my dog for 3k for the rest of her life with the condition she has. Plus having to pay 20% of any claim. I took the cover out on the basis I would have 10k a year per condition. Taking this to the FOS and I will win. Shoddy service!… Read Full Review

“Misleading customers with "lifetime" cover”

Written on: 12/10/2015 by Coyne77 (1 review written)

I cannot describe how angry I am with VetsMedicover. They should not be allowed to mislead their customers into thinking that they are taking out a lifetime policy for their beloved pets, when they know full well that the most you will get out of this company is 2 years. We took out a policy with VetsMedicover for our fist dog after being advised to take out a lifetime policy that would protect us in the eventuality that our dog got a chronic condition. As many responsible pet owners would… Read Full Review

We are really sorry you feel this way and totally understand that the removal of your lifetime cover in this case is far from ideal. Let me go through the points you have mentioned here.

- Lifetime policy is always (with every company, except perhaps one or two) open to change of terms.
- We NEVER intended on changing terms, as we want to offer our customers as much support as possible, it is the underwriters who cancel on us and we are left to deal with the problems.
- We never planned on changing underwriters we have only done this when our existing underwriters have tried to put up prices so much that they gave us no choice.
- Lots of pet insurance companies have had to pull out of the business as they made such little amounts of money.
- We have managed to obtain some emergency cover for clients with potentially chronic conditions.
- if conditions are not chronic then after 24 months, everything will go back to normal.
- Have you had problems with a slow claim, have you called our office? They will be happy to help.

We are so sorry that these changes have left you with a shortfall and this is something we are continually working.

Please do keep in touch.

“Another stitched up customer!”

Written on: 09/10/2015 by MARIENORTHWAY123 (1 review written)

I too took out the 'lifetime' policy. I have never had to claim before but when my dog turned 5 he was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease. He had some tests which I claimed for due to the high cost. My premium was about £40 a month. Ive today had a letter too saying the underwriters have changed. My premium has gone up to £114 per month (that's nearly a 300% increase!!) and they will now only pay a further £3k for his lifetime towards any inflammatory bowel disease related issues!… Read Full Review

“So Disappointed”

Like other recent reviewers I insured my 2 dogs for *life* approx 5 years ago. I still have the original leaflet picked up from my vets surgery at the time. “Price increases as cover decreases”

Written on: 26/08/2015 by keytouch (1 review written)

This company is just getting worse and worse. They seem to change underwriter every year and the conditions to get worse. When I first took out my policy 4 years ago, the premium was £252. This year they are wanting £429. Policy excess was originally £80. Now (as my dog is 4 years) they want £90 PLUS 10% of the claim. SO if I claimed the annual limit of £10,000 then I would have to pay £1090 towards it myself. Scandalous!… Read Full Review

“Life cover - er nope”

Written on: 26/08/2015 by Thunderpug (2 reviews written)

We have paid to cover our dog since the day we collected him. We also paid a bit extra for a life cover policy. We have just been advised that the insurer has changed so they now exclude everything he has ever been to the vet for. The very opposite of life cover policy. Not even offered fair exclusions either - he had a single slight muscle strain and the have excluded ALL joint claims, caught his eye once so they have excluded All eye related claims and had a sore ear - ALL ear claims (ps… Read Full Review

Joj34's Response to Thunderpug's Review

Written on: 27/08/2015

In much the same boat, insured our boy with them last year thinking we would have "life" cover and not only has our annual premium just gone up from £381 to £844 this year, but as he has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia now they will only pay up to £3k over his lifetime. As he isn't yet two years old that is unlikely to cover much over his entire lifetime! Sadly we will have difficulty insuring him elsewhere for this now pre-existing condition.

Though i understand VMC had to change insurer i do feel that we were promised one thing and after paying over the odds for it they shrug their shoulders and say 'oh sorry'

I went to CAB who have advised going the FOS so i will be doing that this week.

I will repeat they have been nothing but lovely, and their customer service was always good. its just a shame.

Hi,

So sorry to hear you feel this way. The prices only go up with increased risk and this is something that all pet insurance companies do as a way to ensure we can stay in business. I hate hearing about huge increases but we do always pay claims and are really reliable so at least you know you have great security. We are going to be writing some articles soon about the increasing prices of pet insurance and why it happens because we want our clients to understand that it has to happen sometimes. I hope he is OK and that he's still getting some hydro sessions.

“Unacceptable price hike”

Written on: 28/05/2015 by 82McCabe (1 review written)

Just had renewal notice in advising the premium will be c. £60 pm, it was £18 pm when I took it out 4 or 5 years ago and is currently £32 pm and after reading other reviews this was my email response to them. I am absolutely disgusted with this. I took the policy out a few years ago at around £18 pm and it has risen steadily to currently £32pm and now you want to renew at £60pm !! This has effectively nulified the Lifetime care as the policy is now unaffordable, which is what a lot… Read Full Review

We are very sorry to hear that the price is too expensive for you now, I know the office have cancelled the policy for you and let you know. The pet insurance market has got distinctly more expensive across the board and most companies have put their prices up. We are working on getting the most reasonable premiums to our customers and are really sorry to see the increases you have had to pay for. This article was written in the press last week, highlighting your exact problem! Relative to other companies we are quite reasonable... it's just such a tricky market. Why do you keep hiding behind other insurance companies putting prices up. What you have done is totally different, a
Rice hike with the same terms is totally different to a price hike with restrictions and no cover for existing conditions !!

This is unacceptable and misleading.
