“What is the point?”

Written on: 21/05/2013 by stalks (1 review written)

I was about to comment an a review already on here as it was a similar story to mine but it was removed? Vetsmedicover refused to pay for an out of hours premium even though I only went as recommended by the Vet. Landing me with the bill. I also received spam to my Vetsmedicover email address from motorvoucher.com. When I complained about receiving unwanted mail I was told by a guy that he had asked someone else and "all is fine". What is that mean to mean? I have already moved to a... (read more)

I have held a policy with VetsMediCover for 2 years and, until recntly would agree with other comments regarding the excellent policy and service of the company. Unfortunately I had to made a claim in 2012 for a major operation for my dog. The cost was less than half the £10,000 allowed per annum, the money was promptly and efficiently paid out within 2 weeks of the claim. “Excellent price & service”

Written on: 01/04/2013

I first insured my boxer with VetsMedicover a couple of years ago after my old insurance company hiked the premiums again. The cover offered is exactly what I need so I am not paying for add ons which I don't want. When my dog became unwell and subsequently died, my claims were paid quickly and efficiently. I now have my new puppy insured with them. I have made one claim already and this has been paid promptly. I would highly recommend Vetsmedicover for value for money and customer service. (read more)

This really is great pet insurance, very cost effective & they offer great service. I unfortunately had to make a claim last November when my dog got toxic poisoning, they speedily settled the claim in full & throughout the whole experience were very helpful. “So far - brilliant service”

I had more or less narrowed down my search for insurance for my puppy but contacted VMC via their online contact form asking a question. A really friendly and helpful lady rang me back within 5 minutes, answering all my questions. I then completed the application form and all the documents were emailed to me within a quarter of an hour. I hope I won't need to make a claim for a very long time, but first impressions are excellent. (read more)

“Great Service”

My puppy needed treatment for a badly cut paw. Her vet carried out the operation and I telephoned the underwriter, who emailed a claim form immediately. She developed an infection from the dressing and needed further treatment for that and it took a few weeks for her to be fully fit again. I found the claim form very easy to complete and received a cheque for the full claim amount, less £80 excess, within 10 working days. (read more)

I wondered if this policy was too good to be true, and accepted it hesitantly. The only drawback that I anticipated was the 30 days to get the form in to the insurers after treatment, which was just going to take organisation. Our 6 month old puppy started limping about a month ago. We went to the vet, who said he might need x-rays if it didn't settle. It didn't, so having checked with vets medicover and asked for the claim form, we went ahead with x-rays. Sadly this showed elbow dysplasia... (read more)

I currently have 4 dogs, and I was a bit shocked when my VetsMedicover renewal premiums for my dogs jumped up from £18-£21/month last year to £28 this year. However, I've renewed the policy with my dog and took out another VM policy for my new puppy. This is because I've had good service from them with another dog I had with them, a dog which I had to put down this past January due to a brain tumour. I have had my two cats insured with Vets Medicover since they were 10weeks old. I found them to be the most practical and best value Lifetime cover insurance I could find. Neither my car insurance, nor my house insurance have gone up. And more to the point, other pet insurers haven´t increased their premiums by 50%, so that argument is worthless.

Vetsmedicover are in this for they money. They´ve had to pay out a few premiums and are recouping them by hiking up the premiums, something established insurers wouldn´t be able to do or sustain as they would lose their customers. Fortunately for VMC they are still a small company with few customers, so as long as they make a quick buck, who cares.

You might want to research One Pet One Price Ltd. Thought provoking, that´s for sure.

I would like to write a nice review for Vets Medicover. I took out the cover on my spaniel last year, and I'm so glad I did. My boy started showing problems walking at the start of 2012, and when he didn't get better, he was referred to an expensive private neurologist who recommended MRI scans, which of course cost a fortune with anaesthaesia, hospitalisation, etc. Unfortunately the scans showed a large inoperable brain tumour, and the dog was put down at the vet's recommendation. Oh my goodness!! The audacity of this company to blame vets prices for their whopping great increase in premiums. What a load of bull!! They´re putting them up because people are claiming and they´re therefore making less millions.

They´re luring us all in, and just WAITING for us to make a claim and therefore be stuck with their ever inflating prices for the life of our pets.

People... jump ship whilst you still can! Find lifelong cover with another established insurer and box clever with what you claim for. Also, make sure you have "continuous cover" with them and don´t swap between insurers, otherwise you may find that that little spot on Polly´s tummy 6 years ago will be a "pre-existing" condition when you need to claim for a skin cancer.

I hardly think a niche broker specialising in high level pet insurance is raking in millions by ripping off their customers. Not a great business model - they'd shortly find themselves with no custom. The reality is that premiums can't stay low when the cost of medical treatment (and everything in general) is going up. I work for a medical insurance broker (people, not pets!) so I get rather narked when folk tar all insurance providers with the same brush. I think I'm going to go with Vets Medicover for my new dog - looks good to me.

I totally agree with Talbot_Dude's response. So many people these days feel it is their right and need to comment on every single thing that doesn't go their way with a company. What about personal responsibility? I am here searching reviews for pet insurance companies to see which is best in a number of areas that are important such as customer service, payouts and coverage. You however are marking down a company unfairly based on your own stupidity. The policy you speak of in regards to 30 days is fair enough. They have to protect themselves as well. It is your fault for changing companies and the only one you should be blaming for your lack of cover is you. Instead of taking to a review sight to slam a company based on your own ignorance why don't you take a little responsibility for your own actions. Shame on you is right!!!

Horrible review. Shame on you. Unfair use of a review system. I went to vetsmed site and you don't need to read the T&C's well. If you click on Cover explained on their website, which I would think most people would do before purchasing insurance anyway as it seems the smart and reasonable thing to do, then you would clearly see that their policy excludes a few things including illnesses within 30 days of policy inception. This is not in small print and very clearly stated. The company should not have had to cover you because you didn't get your facts straight prior to purchasing your insurance. Things like this can happen when you change insurance, which is why you should have overlapped the two policies for 30 days to protect yourself. One would think clarifying exclusions would be a must when changing insurance. Your review is totally unfair and hopefully no one will take notice of a review that makes it clear that you were at fault and not vetsmed. Pure review system abuse.

I agree totally with the comments given. Responsibility for vet fees for the first 30 days are yours, that is what most of the companies do some are 14 but generally theyr'e 30 day . The 30 day exclusion stops claims on your pet which has suddenly become ill on the day you insured, if the 30 day exclusion did not apply and your pet did suddenly become ill how convenient some would say!!! I am not inferring in any way that this was the case with your pet I agree with the 30 day policy if it means insurance premiums stay relatively the same.

The policy looked as though it would be just right for my needs. I have 2 dogs and want to make sure that we can always pay for any veterinary care they may need in the future. Sadly just after clearing my insurance, one of my dogs was taken poorly. Super - wonderful to know that the menagerie is covered, and with a decent excess. Complimentary therapy covered if you're into that nonsense. (read more)

Couldn't believe the price and so easy to apply, knowing the premium was what was quoted on the website gave me confidence in the policy which was then inhanced when I had to make a claim which was dealt with speedily and with with real customer service. Would recommend Vetsmedicover to other dog owners all the time. (read more)

I like knowing that the price is fixed at £18 pounds a month for my dog, it makes life much easier. Lifelong cover is so important, and VetsMediCover offer up to £10,000 of vets fees cover each year, much more than most other policies. (read more)

They have just put their insurance up £10 a month to £28 per month regardless of breed or size or age of dog, not a good price for young, small dogs. I insured 2 dogs with them last year, for £36 for both dogs, never claimed but my insurane is now £56 per month.

please note dog insurance is £28 per month-not £18,except for certain large breeds where the premium is more.
