“Great”

Written on: 05/05/2015 by msbettyford05 (1 review written)

This is a very good organisation. Let's face it, pet insurance isn't cheap but when it comes to our furry friends, we willingly spend the money. That said, insirance companies are always the most positive experiences, however, I've had cause to claim a couple of times. One was when doggy ate large dose of chocolate and more recently a major operation (fully recovered). Both claims were deal with efficiently (payment does take a little while but it does come in full) and without any resistance… Read Full Review

“AVOID !!!! SCANDALOUS PREMIUM INCREASES”

Written on: 13/04/2015 by MathiasRoss309 (1 review written)

I was with Vetsmedicover for 4yrs. I will share my experiences. PROS At the beginning very competitive premiums. Vet bills settled in reasonable time and communication was good. CONS First years premium was roughly £18 per month this increased yearly to my latest quote of £62 !!! yes an increase of 300% in 4yrs. This is for a standard dog, never had surgery, on no medication or ongoing treatments. The only treatment received was for typical pup stomach upsets and one seizure that required no… Read Full Review

Thank you for this feedback. I'm sad to hear we have been such a disappointment for you!

The cover is still outstanding - unfortunately for us the prices have risen and it is for this reason that we have changed underwriters in the past. If you shop around and read other reviews you will hear the same story... the premiums for pet insurance continue to increase.

We continue to fight for our customers and ensure claims are paid and that prices are kept down.

However, your increase is quite extreme, I presume it is to do with the seizure you mentioned. I understand why you are annoyed and I am sorry... but please don't forget our good service and communications and our commitment to fairness. You wpn

Was recommended to use this company by the rescue centre we got our Boxer dog from after years of being with Petplan who`s prices were very high. We have recently had to claim for our dogs Cruciate ligament operation , this company are very slow with paying and you have to call them dozens of times , they keep promising payment but it never arrives , they have settled 2 claims for us which were for a large amount of money but you keep getting different stories about how they pay in the middle… Read Full Review

“Price increase of 127% and no claim made”

“Don't go there!!”

Written on: 02/03/2015 by Leolover1962 (1 review written)

My Dog Insurance premium has shot up from £49 to £253 PER MONTH. The company change their underwriters all the time. At first they were very good, have been with them a few years now. My large breed dog is now 10 years old. The only claim I have had is one for an urgent throat operation and they paid out £2,300. That is the only claim i had 6 months ago. They paid up fairly quickly. Today have had renewal in, am in shock. I simply cannot afford to pay this each month. So just when my dog… Read Full Review

I am so sorry to hear this about your dog.

I am really sorry that you feel we have let you down and understand why you feel that.

We don't have any scripts to read from - not that I am aware of anyway. This premium increase is large and we are really sorry about that. The underwriter reserves the right to increase prices and I think you will find this is the same with lots of pet insurance companies at the moment.

I am pleased we have managed to help you in the past and our claims service is very reliable so if you do wish to stay with us you know that you can trust our operation.

VetsMediCover are working hard to ensure premiums remain reasonable for our customers, this is the reason we have changed underwriters in the past, to protect our customers.

Please call us if you have any questions.

Thank you for your loyalty these years and many apologies about the price increase.

They have recently change the prices but I promise you that we are still working hard to obtain great prices for our clients.

Thank you for your feedback, we have developed considerably since the beginning and made changes to the policies but we value our customers. Without you we have nothing so it's in our best interest to keep you happy and provide excellent service at affordable prices.

Sometimes the risk of the pet is so high that the prices are increased and this is something that VetsMediCover work to balance for our customers. We are sorry that your premium has increased so much, it's just relative to the perception of the risk by the underwriter and large breeds over the age of 8 can be tricky.

So an increase of 500% in a Policy that I took out for my dog on the understanding it would cover him for the rest of his life is normal then. So other Customers better be careful when taking out a Policy on a young dog.
My dog Luka, does not even have a condition that needs lifetime treatment.

“Renewal might get CANCELLED”

Written on: 02/03/2015 by Allison440 (1 review written)

Just recieved a letter about my VetsMediCover insurance saying they are cancelling my policy in 32 days because Elite insurance who they obviously use are not insuring pets in the UK anymore. I then received an email saying, they are trying to find a new insurer. My dog has a life threatening illness, I will not get another policy to cover this as it will be a pre existing condition. I'm appalled by VetsMediCover and Elite, I have just had a letter telling me Elite have pulled out of the pet insurance market and the new policy they have offered me will not cover my dogs pre existing condition. I have paid for their top level covered for life policy for 3 years and now sadly my dog has an ongoing illness (cancer and has had to have surgery and chemotherapy) they will not offer me cover for this. What is the point of a 'covered for life' policy? I might as well have taken out an annual renewal - disgusting. I have also reported both to the FOS and FCA. It was the only thing that made my dogs cancer diagnosis a little easier knowing I had a lifetime cover to pay for any ongoing treatment, the stress of this has been terrible. Utterly disgusting.

I have just received a similar letter also giving me a measly 32 days to sort out my pet insurance .. interesting how VetsMediCover were aware in March (if not many months earlier) that Elite insurance were pulling out of the UK market !! Could they not have given customers more notice, or made much more effort to obtain similar policy from another underwriter. I am dismayed that a life policy can suddenly be withdrawn, where does that leave owners of pets (like me) with pre-existing conditions, surely lifetime cover should mean precisely what it says.. it is completely unreasonable and unacceptable that VetsMediCover have not located a like for like Lifetime cover policy. Had I been made aware that this company was likely to shirk it's responsibilities to its customers then I would never have done business with them. Very poor business practice and customer relations

Vetsmedicover has done the same to me! They have asked me to increase the premiums on my 9 year old boxer from £44pm to £234pm!!! I have to cancel the policy as I cannot afford such a ridiculous amount!

And why have I not been advised that Elite are no longer insuring pets in the UK??

I have reported Vetsmedicover to the FCA and the Ombudsman as I am disgusted at the over 500% increase, they are abusing the fact that we have trusted them with our pets lifetime cover!

“Massive increase in premiums”

Written on: 23/02/2015 by Chestersmate (1 review written)

This was a great company when it started but they are constantly changing underwriters. The latest underwriter has massively increased premiums. Mine have gone up 260% in 2 years, plus lots of additional charges never levied before. If you have a life long policy and are claiming for ongoing conditions you can't change companies. Don't believe any company that says they will keep the same conditions for the life of the policy, it's just false. I would never insure another pet with this company… Read Full Review

We are really sorry to hear this!

The main reason we change underwriter is to protect our clients from huge increases in premiums.

The contract is an annually renewable lifetime policy and we really are competitive in the market place. Pet insurance seems to be getting more and more expensive as underwriters put pressure on all the companies.

Please don't feel that we have tried to rip you off. We work hard to keep things as fair as we can.

“Beware Hiked Premiums ”

Written on: 09/02/2015 by Josephinespot (1 review written)

I have just cancelled my policy as they want to charge me over £35.00 per month for a three year old cat. I have made some claims over the past couple of years but nothing really huge. If you are sure your animal is always going to be healthy, use them, but that negates the point of insurance. I am going to put the £400 plus per annum they wanted to charge me in the bank and cross my fingers she doesn't need more over her lifetime than it will come to. Really sorry to hear this!

Sorry about the feedback from our underwriters - we are always working hard to keep the premiums fair and so sometimes we have to change underwriters. Our mission to supply fantastic pet insurance at a great price is at the core of everything we do.

Claims are central to insurance and we do pay and claims are often £3000 or £4000 pounds, or more, up to £9000... so having insurance does make sense! Our consistent payments are at the core of how we operate.

Please do try us again in the future.

“surgery for my dog”

“BEWARE Unbelievable and Incredible Premium Increases”

Written on: 28/12/2014 by Chris1984a (1 review written)

My dog has been insured by VetsMediCover for 3 years now. The underwriter seems to change every year but so far the service has been fine and the policy renewal terms reasonable (generally inflationary increases). However, this year I have received by policy renewal details and the monthly premium has increased from £35 per month to £72 per month. Yes - it has more than doubled. This essentially renders the "lifetime" policy useless as it seems VetsMediCover, or Elite Insurance Company as… Read Full Review

I have heard from several other people that premiums have significantly increased recently.

I would like to reiterate that the increase in my annual premium was over 100% which really is scandalous.

I have investigated this further and have been informed that the premium increase is due to my claim levels over the last year, or "claim loading".

So, basically Vetsmedicover are great if your pet does not develop any long-standing health conditions. If they do, Vetsmedicover will hike your premiums excessively in order to ensure that they do not have "loss making" customers on the books.

Truly shocking.

My premium for my dog has shot up from £50 per month to £253 per month! How can they get away with this? I have only climed once and not a huge claim either.
Did you change Insurers, if so who did you go with?
I am thinking of going with the Kennel Club, my friend has her 3 dogs with them, has had several claims with them and although their Premium has gone up this year, it is still affordable.

I am in the process of writing a review myself. Just thought would have a look at some of the others on here.
I received my renewal this morning, have been with Vetsmedicover for a few years. My premium has gone up from £49 per month to £250 PER MONTH.
My boy turned 10 in October, i have had one claim in July for an on his Larynx. They paid out £2300 with no problems. Apart from this Op he is quite healthy and has no ongoing conditions.
I knew my premium would go up, but really wasn't expecting this amount!!
This is more than my life, car and house Insurance altogether.
I simply cannot afford this amount each amount each month. I will be cancelling from renewal and just hope that he doesnt need a vet anytime soon.

“3 years I have been with them”

I have been with vets medicover for 3 years. My dog had his annual 'teeth check' as stipulated on the policy and last year was fine. This year he has gum disease so needed his teeth all sorting out with possible extraction, he also had an infected foot, which happened the day before his teeth were scheduled. Hi,
You are apparently applying to the vet for his notes. This was about 1.5 weeks ago, should I have heard from you by now? As I stated above it is not routine. The vet told me it is not routine and you 'should' pay out (from their point of view, although they deal mainly with Petplan) I feel I am repeating myself, regarding the 'not routine' The infected foot is on the notes also.

Adding exclamation marks at the end of sentences changes their tone. So adding it under the sentence 'Routine dental cleaning is not covered under our policy!', when I have firstly stated not routine, appears rather aggresive to the reader and quite unhelpful.

People read these threads when making a decision about with whom to insure their pet. Like I said I have been with you problem free for 3 years (maybe because I never claimed, one wonders?).

Therefore I think I deserve a little more respect as a customer than to be exclaimed at like I am either a bit dim or unfair on you. Which I am neither.

“Vetsmedicover - Very disappointing!”

Written on: 29/10/2014 by kaCoughlin217 (1 review written)

I had my 3 Cocker Spaniels insured with Vetmedicover for the past 2 or 3 years. Originally, the cover and price looked great - just Vets Fees and Third Party Cover - no fancy stuff you would probably never need. The premium was £250 per annum for any breed (apart from giant breeds). The following year, the premiums rose to £336 per annum, which seemed reasonable enough, with inflation. This year, the policy has changed completely. There is no longer the one-price-fits-all, and the premiums… Read Full Review

Our service and focus will always remain this way and we are very sorry that you found us to be too expensive. We get lots of big claims for £9000 and this is why we continue to make sense. Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately you seem to have completely missed the point. Yes, the hike in premiums is excessive, but, as mentioned above, that is only part of the story.

Back in September 2011, when we first took out cover for our 3 dogs, there was a straightforward policy and just one level of cover for a maximum of £10,000 (now know as Diamond cover). In 2012 and 2013 the premiums has risen by a realistic amount, but there was still only one level of cover.

In September 2014, when we received the renewal, the policy had completely changed. There was a massive price hike, and there were now 4 levels of cover - Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.

Vetsmedicover did offer us the option to reduce the cover to Platinum for two of our dogs, who we have never made a claim for. However, when we enquired what the premium would be for our third dog, we received the following reply, which I am quoting word-for-word, as no-one would believe it otherwise:

"We have had a look into your renewal for you and unfortunately due to the past two years claims history we are unable to offer you the next level of cover down which is Platinum. A total of £676.11 has been paid for claims and as specified by the underwriter we are unable to lower the cover to Platinum or Gold. We would normally then suggest to a customer that they could take out a completely new cover if they wished to do so but we are unable to do this for nnnn as she is already 9 years old, we are unable to take out new cover for a pet that is already over the age of 8."

£676.11 paid out over 2 yrs on a limit of £10,000 per year???
New cover???

If you are coming up with such ridiculous 'rules' when you are requesting money from us, what chance would we have if we ever had to make a claim?

I am sure that it cannot be ethical to attract customers with one policy, then completely change it, and not give any leaway to existing customers because their dogs are now older and there may be a greater risk of them making a claim. There must be some customers who have been with you since 2011 who are unable to insure their pets elsewhere due to pre-existing conditions, and will be trapped into having to pay for Diamond cover.

I think possibly the 'service' and 'focus' you are so proud of may need reviewing.....

“A lifetime policy that provides the cover we need!”

Written on: 18/08/2014 by Cullen192 (1 review written)

I had previously taken cover with other insurance providers, and although we had never claimed the premiums rose year on year. We changed to Vetsmedicover last year after a friend mentioned that she had taken out cover with them. Last month our dog underwent surgery for a cruciate ligament injury, without the high level of cover we would never have been able to pay for the treatment ourselves, which is actually quite worrying.
