Where to start. Firstly, I wish I had read this site first before booking. I hope someone will read this and not have to experience the same pain that I am. I know how you feel as I've experienced all of that too, still waiting refund myself. Report them to trading standards via the citizen advice bureau that's what I did. Hopefully they can close this terrible company before they take more money from people.

After being let down by the hire company i orginally booked with, I asked nationwide for there help, And they delivered what other vehicle comapny's couldnt. I cant thank them enough for getting me a van that was used to move my son's belongings. They made the process stress free and saved me a lot of stress at being let down at the last min. I booked a 15 Seater Minibus with Nationwide at last minute for our school trip as our bus had broken down. Nationwide Hire were extremely helpful and managed to locate a vehicle for us at very short notice. I can't thank them enough if it wasn't for them we would of had some very upset children. I will most certainly book again with Nationwide Hire. I found the staff really friendly and helpful and the price was good too. The bus was also delivered to us at the school. This could go on and on ... 1) ordered a LWB HR Transit for a week to take to Germany. Price was OK. 2) rang 3 days before to check, as I needed a spare bulb kit. No record of the booking reference! This company is beyond terrible! I wouldn't give a star but you have to have 1. There so called managing director Jeff will never talk to you if something goes wrong! It will be passed on to the so called Manager Kate??? I am currently in a dispute with this company, I never received an email of confirmation from them after phoning them several times. This lead me to doubt this company and after finding all these bad reviews my doubts were confirmed. As I had not received any confirmation emails after phoning several times I then call to cancel and they have now charged a cancellation fee. They said they would also email me the cancellation and have not recieved that either. This is a very poorly run company. I am now in process of writing a letter of complaint and any information regarding names of managers will be much appreciated.

Bottom line - this company is a broker and does not have its own fleet. On booking, you will receive a detailed email acknowledgement (which looks like a confirmation) but they will not tell you if there are no vans available - you only find out when the van fails to turn up. I hired a van for two days from this firm I was sent an invoice from some guy 78.00 to europcar and 61.00 when I enquired the price with europcar they told me the price for the van for two days was 78.00 so whats the 61.00 for that nationwide hire have taken for then? Lets face it, society today is more than happy to slate a bad experience, yet not think about giving a good review. Yes people are entitled to an opinion, However id like to add that i have had NO PROBLEMS with booking car/vsn hire off nationwidehireuk. Each time i have booked my vehicle has been delivered and booked correctly and the service i received was excellent. I cannot recommend this company enough. I booked a Transit for a delivery at 8:30am and got a call at 8:35am to say the van would be two hours late (very optimistic). I rang up the driver half an hour later and he was still two hours away! Van booked for 8.30 did not arrive, 3 phone calls later a vehicle [not the upgraded larger vehicle promised] arrived at lunch time. Office closes at 12.30 on a Saturdays - vehicle was overfilled with oil & warning light not to drive on, within a short time of setting off. Most unhelpful company I have ever come across. Ended up dealing directly with Europecar (which is where they sourced our van from). Lied about needing a massive deposit. Never returned my phone calls when the van was late. Also, van was meant to be picked up at 17.30pm on the same day. I phoned Europcar directly as I didn't trust the company by this point. I needed to hire a transit van to take some surplus furniture from my UK property to my cottage in Brittany, France. Refund eventually received after much chasing. The problem with this set up is you are dealing with a company remote from your location and if things go wrong there is little you can do. This has confirmed that getting someone local is the best policy. The internet is not the answer to everything

Oh well...where to start. This was the second time we have used this company, and first time we had no issues at all. Second time round, we are struggling to reclaim £474 they took from us WITHOUT authority, for damage that WE DID NOT CAUSE!! A complete waste of time. I booked a vehicle to move my elderly parents only to be told that the there was no vehicle available 10 hours before it was due to be delivered. No apology, no explaination and no alternative was offered. I placed the order over the phone and the assistant was extremely helpful and informative. When I booked the van it clearly stated in big red letters on the vehicle confirmation document RE-FILL YOUR VEHICLE TO AVOID FUEL CHARGES. Yes, we have just been scammed too!! As you, the van was ok and arrived on time. The downside was that, instead of holding the £200 deposit, which is cancelled at the end of the hire, they cashed it and have not paid it back after the customary 24hrs. It is now 9 days, and despite many calls to them, the money has not been returned. Trouble is, VISA aren't interested so............??! Further to the above [several weeks later] Trading Standards advised me to send a recorded deliver letter to Nation wide Hire Ltd re this matter stating they were in breach of contract and giving them 14 days to refund the over charge. They have not even had the decency to reply! Booking process was very easy, received email confirming the van I was hiring would be delivered to my home address by 08:30hrs. At 09:00hrs on the day of hire the vehicle was still not delivered. I have had a terrible time with this lot. Van delivered on time, and fine to drive etc, BUT. Thought it would be a fantastic deal, the price was good and it seemed like no hassle. Despite the acknowledgement email claiming the confirmation would reach me within 24 hours, a week of waiting I had to pester them for it. We hired a VW Shuttle (9 seater) for a family trip to Germany and back. Vehicle was supplied by Ashford Hire. Supplied us with a third party minibus in very poor condition from U-drive which broke down. Nationwide no help at all. The guy at Northgate in Northampton was very slow and unhelpful. He kept our staff waiting for over an hour then proceeded to tell them that they hadn't enough ID information - passport, driving licence & business document were not enough as he needed personal information relating to the driver. Avoid this 'company' like a plague!! They only want to hire out their measly fleet to the elite and only on their choosing. I hired a truck with them and it was all confirmed and date set. I hired a van through Nationwide van hire in Jan 2012, website is easy to use and reservation was confirmed. I then had a phone call stating I had to pay a £250 deposit which was not displayed on the website booking form. The van turned up on time and was from Hertz - Nationwide are a third party company.
