Summary

Howdens Lamona LMA300 Reviews

Howdens have a great reputation as Kitchen Designers and suppliers, but…

Howdens is the UK’s No. 1 Trade Kitchen supplier and was awarded the Which Best Buy in 2021 for their kitchen cabinets. And Howdens regularly receives over 80% 5-star reviews for its design, service and installation across its over 700 depots in the UK and Europe.

The Howdens brand is let down by the Lamona range of appliances

While the quality of their fridges, freezers, washing machines and dishwashers have undeniably improved, (does anyone remember the Diplomat brand?) the Lamona brand is at the lower end of the price/quality/reliability chart. And because they are not sold individually or at retail (but only as part of the ‘kitchen’ via a builder) comparing these products is difficult.

What is the Lamona range?

Lamona is a brand of white goods appliances manufactured and provided by Howdens Joinery as its own brand, via the builders who install their kitchens. Originally they were manufactured and sold as part of MFI back in the day. AEG makes their fridges and freezers today in Germany. They come with a 3-year warranty.

What are the common complaints about the Lamona Ovens?

With words like ‘nightmare’ and ‘cheap useless rubbish’ our reviewers are disappointed by Lamona's white goods. Of the oven, they complained of noisy fans and bad seals and poor temperature management and defective fuses. The 67 reviews are most scathing about poor durability, service and Value for money. What is clear is that Howden’s choice to supply this problematic brand is letting down an otherwise impressive Kitchen design and supply business. Time to switch manufacturers we think.

“Unusable ”

So I’ve just had a new kitchen fitted that came with the Lamona cooker and hob, every time we use the cooker it fills with water, engineer came out couldn’t of been any less interested and then said well don’t cook frozen food in it, didn’t check or even turn the oven on, have had them back a second time to be told maybe it’s the seal, was told this would be replaced but 2 months on still haven’t been replaced, oven is still unusable as just too dangerous to use. As for the hob you are unable to use all 4 together as it just turns the whole hob off, if 2 are on the highest setting this again turns the whole hob off, again another engineer visit who said it wasn’t wired correctly, surprise surprise it still doesn’t work. I would not recommend any Lamona appliances to anybody.

“Id give it zero stars if it was an option”

Absolutely terrible product. Had it fitted on Christmas eve. Cooked my Christmas dinner in it and it was horrible. Roast potatoes were in for 1 hour despite cooking instructions stating 40 minutes. They came out solid. Fast forward to today (1/1/24) Cooked the same roast potatoes again today….. 2 trays , exact same potatoes (m&s) on the same shelf. One tray was burnt and raw and the other was pale and slightly cooked. They were in for an hour. Wish i could upload a photo but i cant see the option. Hoping i can get a refund from Howdens when they reopen. Ill not hold my breath!!! Will be purchasing a Hotpoint when the shops reopen. Stay clear from this monstrosity of a product.

“Absolutely awful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by baBlackburn214 on 13/06/2023

Bought this as recommended by Howdens. Despite them designing the kitchen my builder said the double oven housing wasn't right and the small oven/ microwave had to sit directly on the big oven. After 2 months we couldn't close the door of the main oven so it wouldn't switch on. With Christmas days away I contacted Howdens who couldn't be less interested. My builder shamed them into supplying a new one which arrived Christmas eve but with no one to fit it. Started going again today. Utter rubbish. Wish Howdens has been honest when we asked about reliability.

Took the oven out after 2 weeks then tha microwave after 3 weeks. The gas hob is useless. Put a pan on and it fall off onto the floor. Totally disgusting and very unsafe especially if you have children. Hate it going to change when I can afford.

New kitchen fitted 2 years ago and the cooker is really bad. I have just had a very stressful attempt of cooking Christmas dinner which took 5 times longer than it should have done because the cooker was not heating up properly. Not impressed and definitely would not recommend.i thought it had been taking longer than it should have done to cook things but today showed me how bad it really is.

“Don't buy Lamona”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Efos on 10/08/2022

Bought a Lamona via Howdens just under five years ago. Now it trips our circuit on opening the door. No Lamona engineer will look at it because it is out of the two year guarantee period. Appliance repair companies won't look at it because it is Lamona and difficult to test and work with. Local electricians can't do a diagnosis because the Lamona design prevents this. Howdens quoted £689 for a replacement (integrated cooker and microwave Lam 7001-1.) Am not prepared to stomach this bill in the current situation where goodwill on my part is absent towards Lamona and Howdens. Now I discover that, so far, every other make is 595 mm wide cabinet width and Lamona is 550mmwide. Banjaxed again. I would like to have known that Lamona don't support their appliances after two years. I would also like Howdens to have informed us that repairs are virtually impossible. I routinely reject insuring new appliances because it is usually an optional extra that is not necessary. This situation is 'engineered' in my opinion by Lamona. Had I known I would have considered insurance in a different light.

“Another Lamona Oven Disaster ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Adams173 on 29/06/2022

Bought a brand new kitchen from Howdens which came with Lamona appliances. Oven is as described by other reviewers. Takes ages to cook, doesn't cook evenly. Food burns at bottom and cols on top. Howdens refusing to replace it because their engineer put a thermometer in and said "oh yes it's hot". With this number of reviews it ought to be a product recall. Am starting an official complaints process with Howdens customer service.

“The sun cooks bettee”

written by Tinafluff on 05/05/2021

These ovens are terrible and I'm lumped with it in a rented apartment! Like other comments either burnt on the bottom or stone cold on the top despite it being fan assisted, absolute joke, the manufacturers had a right laugh when they made these. Awful don't buy, spend your money on an oven that cooks, the sun stands a better chance of producing a warm meal, they must have employed Stevie Wonder to draw up the plans!

“Digital clock broke down last August,”

★☆☆☆☆

written by nocustomerservice15 on 09/11/2020

Kitchen installed August 2017. Lamona fan oven with grill. August 2020: the digital clock controlling the oven and grill malfunctioned, fortunately within guarantee. The engineer installed a new clock. November, 10 weeks later, the clock has malfunctioned again, so no oven or grill. I contacted Howdens in Hemel Hempstead but because the guarantee had expired, they were not interested in helping me. The manager gave me a free phone number for Pacific, which I rang but nobody answered the phone; could be due to Covid-19 staff shortage but why not put a message on? I actually left a message last week with my phone number but no-one has contacted me, hence the telephone call today. I told Howdens that I would not be recommending them due to lack of customer service. Don't buy Howdens appliances!!!

“rubbish oven”

written by llwynon on 08/06/2020

I bought the Lamona fan oven and grill when I had a kitchen fitted 9 years ago. I stopped baking several years ago due to lack of demand when my son went to Uni. He has returned home while job searching and asked me to do some baking. How I wish I had changed this oven before now.Uneven baking despite fan rattling away, temperature control innacurate. Either rock hard tops to cakes or soggy bases! Next job after lockdown will be another oven but not from this brand

“USELESS!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by itsme1010 on 12/05/2020

Can't understand why they manufacture such useless ovens. I like baking my own bread, and with my previous oven, they always came out good. But with my Lamona one, they were always rock hard, heavy and absolutely awful. It took time until I realised the oven was to blame and not me, but in the meantime I lost my confidence in baking bread. Cakes are also awful. The only thing that came out semi-decent were biscuits. Top rack half burned bottom rack half raw but still semi ok. Chicken/meat also not too bad. Definitely don't recommend this, I don't know why they are still selling these, clearly nobody is happy with them!

DO NOT BUY ANY LAMONA OVEN! It does Not cook anything properly. Food is either burnt or uncooked! At the same time. Cold sot in centre of oven even though its a fan oven. Have to cook food for longer than specified to get it edable, but then it is burnt. We are replacing ours ASAP.

“Load of rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SidneyHays on 31/03/2018

I have had this useless piece of equipment since July 2014, the fan packed up in March 2015, luckily within the guarantee. After service practically non existent. Had new fan fitted, packed up a few weeks later. Engineer then fitted new fan, new thermostat and new element. Cooker has just packed up again just in time to ruin Easter, thanks Howdens. I would not recommend Lamona cookers to my worst enemies, I just wish I had never heard of the make.

“Don't touch with a bargepole”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Garrett315 on 26/01/2018

Had this oven for 2 years and deeply regretting it - already had the fan replaced twice and element replaced and now, judging by the noise its making, the fan probably needs doing again. Temperature is hard to gage - on the same alleged temperature one day food burns, next it undercooks. Grill function is worse than useless - takes ages to heat up and then just burns everything. Howdens not interested.....I did try the fit for purpose approach but they couldn't care less.

I bought a Lamona double fan oven LAM4601 in September 2013.Had to have fan repaired in May 2015 it now needs attention again. Are the fans on these ovens prone to faults as both of these have failed under the 2 year guarantee period. I hope this will be repaired again under guarantee as I have no intention on paying for another fan for it to fail again within 2 years

I have a Lamona S/S single fan oven, LMA 3400, in my brand new Howdens kitchen, and now have a second date (but not until March 2nd) for an engineer to call to check why it is not heating properly. (The first appointment was cancelled at 12.00pm on the day he was due) I was finding that food was not cooking or browning properly, so purchased an oven thermometer which confirmed my suspicions that the oven is taking ages to heat up, and is operating at between 30 and 45 degrees below the set temperature. My question today is:-- Can I return this appliance right now, and have my money back? After reading reviews from other people who have bought this appliance, I really do not wish to have to keep trying to get someone to look at it, only to find, (as many other customers appear to have), that I wish I had done more research and bought a different product to start with.

I sympathise totally with you. I bought a Howdens kitchen (which is good) and bought all the appliances with it (which are terrible) Howdens should be ashamed to be selling such second rate appliances with their kitchens. I found out too late, also, that I should have done my homework and stayed well clear of the white goods they peddle with their units. I had nothing but trouble with my oven (including the common problem of the glass shattering). I had never been happy with the oven, and pies and cakes just didn't cook properly at all. Eventually I had enough and bought a replacement ( as it was after the years guarantee) and I have had no trouble with my new one (needless to say - NOT a Lamona one) I also had to replace the washing machine just after the year. To answer your question though, is it still within the year's guarantee? They have to fix it by law, but of course that still leaves you with an inferior product but you may get a few more months out of it. Replacement ovens are not too expensive and would certainly give you peace of mind. Good luck!

We have a Lamona oven fitted in a Howdens kitchen. We thought the door seal had gone and so replaced it. Still heat was escaping from the side of the door, so much that the veneer on the cupboard doors of the cooker housing have "melted". What should I do? Don't buy!

Our Lamona oven is tripping our electrics roughly about 20-30 mins after the oven is switched off its 15 months old and we have had 5 engineers out. One suggested it was our electrics and we got the cable rewired and it still tripped. The 2nd visit suggested it was the grill element and when the 3rd guy came out, he brought the oven element in error and on the 4th visit the engineer never brought any elements and said it’s not the element and could be the fan switch which was replaced on the 5th visit and is still tripping my electrics. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Lamona LMA300 is not a very good oven. It does not heat proper the door is sealed and I can not clean the inner glass. I got in touch with Howdens of Aberdeen and ask if I could buy a door that the inner glass can be removed to clean.   The dirty door spoils the look of my kitchen I have to put a dish cloth over it. I payed a lot of money for this kitchen so do you know if I can replace the door or replace the oven?

I certainly wouldn't think about spending more money on this oven. I had a Lamona oven which came with our Howden's kitchen and had nothing but bother with it (including the glass door shattering - a common fault apparently) Howden's charge completely over the top for any additional work to their electrical appliances which are out of guarantee. I suggest you do what I did - cut your losses and buy a replacement oven. I have just bought a Zanussi double oven from Curry's for under £400 and it is great!! Good luck!

I think you should cut your losses, get rid of your Lamona oven and buy a decent one. My Lamona oven was barely out of guarantee when it went wrong and could not be repaired. Howdens offered me no help or compensation. I was, and still remain, angry about this. I bought a Neff oven, which was expensive but is very good.

I can't help - I had a different problem with my oven, and just assume that Lamona are not well made and are not hardy.
Report this content dudberg Written on: 28/04/2014
Exactly the same happened to me. Lamona ovens are useless (see other reviews)In fact all Lamona products are poor, I speak from experience! Cut your losses and do what I did - go out an buy a decent replacement oven. It is not worth spending more money to fix this and Howdens charge ridiculous amounts to fix their electrical items that are out of guarantee. Howden units are great but they should be ashamed of themselves for including inferior electrical items with their kitchens. For that reason, I would never recommend them to anybody.
