“rubbish”

Written on: 02/05/2013

I am 64 years old and have always had no problem with my ovens. Having had a new kitchen fitted with Howdens these appliances come with the range. They cook unevenly so whilst one part of the food is burnt the other part is not cooked. This weekend had a roast in the oven for the family when all of a sudden pop the glass shattered into tiny shards all over the food. Good job my grandchildren and dog were not nearby. The mess was terrible to clear up. I am not getting it repaired but... (read more)

“Why didn't I read this before buying!!!!!!!”

Written on: 11/03/2013

I made the huge mistake of buying a £10k kitchen from Howdens Burnley, and the design included four, yes four of these ovens, My biggest gripe with them is you cannot clean them and strip them down so if you get food splash in between the glass then it's a pig to clean, any tips from others on this website would be appreciated The ovens are not constant temperature wise so we only use the one, we have complained to Howdens on 5 occasions, phone calls are NEVER returned and don't get me... “Lamona Howdens Rubbish”

Written on: 28/12/2012 by mycat (3 reviews written)

I had Howdens kitchen and appliances fitted 2 yrs ago. Consistent problem with oven and grill, no back up service, unable to get manuals, or help. After many calls, Howdens/ghda asked for £140 for engineer to come out. Its broke 2 times.I am still unable to set the clock, and without the clock set the oven will not operate, there are hundreds of unanswered forum questions to this particular problem all over the net so I cannot be the only one with problems. Wish I had gone for a better brand. (read more)

“Lamona appliances from Howdens”

Written on: 03/11/2012

Don't anyone buy the Lamona range of ovens The inside glass has shattered twice with me now and for no obvious reason Howdens blamed it on' maybe the kids laid something on and so there may have been a hairline fracture" !!!!!!! Gave benefit of doubt but almost a year to the day it happened again and it's £100 for the new glass !!!!!! So surprised that Howdens put their good name to such appliances .Im going to take this further so no one else purchases this range again. (read more)

Glass in ovens shatter because of a manufacture defect. When the glass is formed there can sometimes be microscopic sized air bubbles left in the sheet as it cools. When the glass heats up, the air inside the tiny bubble warms and expands therefore causing the glass to shatter. This is an issue for every single oven manufacturer on the planet. You will usually find that if the glass is going to shatter it will happen early into the use of the appliance. Howdens now give a 5 year guarantee against such an issue.

“worthless”

Written on: 11/11/2011

The inner window just shattered while I was cooking dinner! Cooking at 160 degrees, door was closed 20 minutes then I heard a loud pop. I thought a car had been vandalised outside. There are glass shards everywhere. This is a rented flat and the oven was brand new in September 2009. My landlord is going to tell me I need to fix this. What kind of piece of cheap junk explodes once the warranty has conveniently expired? Ps, this always cooked hotter on the left side than right - so... (read more)

I had a similar problem - the door just dropped off when I was cooking dinner. Reluctantly I accepted getting their engineer to replace it, but the same thing has just happened again today. These ovens are not fit for purpose.

Came as a package from Howdens. Looks cheap big in your face plastic knobs the stainless steel is probley the lowest grade going. The door steams up when cooking and leaves a puddle on the floor. Service and support is shocking. According to Manager its completely normal. He started shouting and lost his head and slammed the phone down and wouldnt speak to me again. Our Lamona oven is total rubbish. It overcooks and burns everything, and smokes even on 50C.
The temperature knob is a complete liar, and every setting is 'nuke' level.
I wish we had gone with a more trusted brand as this came with our kitchen package. We are now looking at a Bosh oven to replace this Lamona furnace.
Avoid - you will regret it, unless your name is Lucifer or you like oven chips like charcoal sticks.
