Loved this story and identified with it from a personal, similar experience. I, however made a different choice and wonder to this day if it was the right one....

It gave us a chance to believe what could be...and is there a greater euphoria? I was saddened by the ending, but at the same time, I understood and loved it. I wanted a bit more revelation of feelings from Clint and Meryl, but The Bridges of Madison County is just a gold mine of a movie...I could watch it 20 times and clamour for another go around. I am thirsty for good movies, good actors...theatre that leaves me breathless. This does the job and more.- Read sondrajor's review (88 words)

It always amazes me when reviewers are so shallow that they don't reach into the depth of their experience or they shy away from their own history when it comes to emotion. Robert Waller has simply written a little book that tells a potentially real story about a chance meeting in the heartland of America between two people, for what its worth, longing for something beyond themselves - a chance meeting with a soul mate. How did The Bridges of Madison County become so successful? I rather suspect that there are many more intelligently written 'Mills and Boon' romances.
The characters are shallow, the story unbelievable. But worse: what is the point of this? We are left with no feeling for either of the main characters, a dull dislike of the locals and the husband. Passion? Certainly not here! Bland, clich d writing a-plenty though.
